Opinions of 'Brutal' Death Metal sub-sub-genre?
is it just old school death or tech death but more cookie monster vocals? why the hell are there so many genres they sound so similar?

It's a sub genre of "Hard Rock" I believe

Lots of different types of "Hard Rock" now.

What's even considered "brutal" death metal these days? To me that always meant NY shit like Suffocation, Pyrexia, Immolation, and some stuff like (old) Deeds of Flesh and I guess Cannibal Corpse. What counts as brutal DM these days?

dunno. is any of it good, or is it just more lo-fi burpcore?

I'm not great at describing music, but I guess I like the texture of BDM. I particularly like bands where the guitar tone is especially noisy. When I was younger, I really liked the boundary pushing aspects of metal, so I guess that still shows in my appreciation for BDM. I don't listen to it so much anymore, though.

I like it to be a little technical.
Like nithing (New Standard Elite has a lot of good bands if you're interested)

I love old Cryptopsy and they were right in the middle of OSDM, brutal, and tech. Lord Worm's vocals in particular are in the perfect place between old school and new school.
