Sure, it can be said that they were one of the first punk bands to introduce other sounds into punk, they were innovative, ground breaking, whatever, but it just sounds like rock and roll, the joe strummer experience and the clash band, not an actual punk rock band. I suppose the "punk" aspect of the music is supposed to be the willingness to experiment with other sounds, give the middle finger to what a punk is supposed to like, play, be, sound like, but it is kind of bloated and meh for me. I'd probably listen to london calling 9 times out of 10 over give em rope. Couldn't finish their second album. It seems kind of boring. Their debut is pretty alright. I liked it. Kind of gritty and raw. Isn't punk supposed to have some edge? some bite? Some grit? London calling sounds like everything but conventional punk. It is a punk band with punk gear, a punk name, a punk background, a punk style and look, yet the album is so un punk that it kind of has me confused. It isn't like they're playing a fusion of genres. Like reggae punk, or spanish music punk, but they're literally just playing those other genres and ever so often putting a punk edge or twist to it. Some of the music is good, but it leans more on the side of rock and roll than it does actual punk rock. Those are just my two cents.
