The "Johnny Marr is reforming The Smiths without Morrissey" rumour does have a grain of truth to it.
Marr IS looking for a Morrissey style vocalist to front what is basically The Smiths in all but name for a tour next year. Marr knows he has to have Morrissey's blessing to use the name, he doesn't care.
Marr approached Brett Anderson and Russell Mael a few weeks back, both turned him down.

No one. You can't replace the GOAT. Marr, on the other hand, is completely replaceable.
