Why does every other "dreampunk" album sound so bland compared to 2814? What fucking black magic were T e l e p a t h and HKE on?
>>1236631782814's sound is not distinct enough to warrant its own genre. It's vaporwave/ambient, and there's tons of great artists in both genres, and obviously plenty of boring artists ripping them off too
>>123663275I literally cannot find anything similar that's as transportive as 2814 is, and when I do it's a side-project of HKE or Telepath. Like the rest of this genre sounds like royalty free cyberpunk music in comparison - it's missing something that I cannot describe. I have yet to listen to an album in this style that is so enveloping in its sound.
>>123663355I have the exact same experience as this. I've tried to listen to a variety of artists playing in the same space and nothing ever comes close as 2814. Had just been listening to Birth of a New Day when I saw this post. It has such an alluring pull, I never grow tired of it.
>>123663432Yes - alluring is a great way to describe it. I wish HKE and Telepath weren’t such self-destructive, contrarian faggots and kept releasing music in this style because no one does it better. But they have to act like they’re “above” it for some reason, it’s lame.
>>123663178They are indeed the best and most consistent dreampunk artist. I think that's because they nailed the futuristic cityscape and streamlined the "ambient vaporwave" thing before the others, it just sounds more complete imo
