Why do so many of the fans of bands like the Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, etc have such a big chip on their shoulder about Nirvana? You'll almost never see a thread on /mu/ talking about these bands that doesn't bring up Kurt Cobain. Are they just upset that their favored band is less popular than Nirvana and, quite frankly, just not as good? Are they jealous?In my opinion, Nirvana is one of the only mainstream alternative rock bands that matters. It is practically the only one to get radio play that was a genuinely good band, that was not disposable, that had something special about it. These other bands do not matter. They didn't capture the magic and quality of 60's/70's classic rock in the way Nirvana did. As you listen to more rock music, I think that becomes very evident.Almost all of the alt rock worth listening to is just Nirvana and then underground bands, mostly from the 80's. That's about it.
