they were when they had the Best drummer.

their shows were awful. they had crappy sound equipment and you couldn't hear a thing over the screaming fans. many shows ended early when the fans rushed the stage and the band had to run for their lives. After '66, they decided it was pointless to play live, and they were right. Unfortunately, they stopped just when sound equipment was just getting really good for big concerts.
>>
>>123679439
Teenage Girls simply couldn’t handle their rizz. Beatles concerts at this point were more like some kind of cult worship freak show where all anyone could hear was screaming girls, ambulances had to be on standby to handle the sheer hysteria, people were trying to lay hands on them for legendary healing powers like the 12 apostles or some shit and they had to travel exclusively by armoured car. Literally could not hear themselves even play the show between the noise and the shitty 1960s technology they were using.
Just took all the fun out of it really and made it weird.

this is why.

So no one ever asked how they were able to write so many good songs despite being so average? Everyone who was asked about them in the early days said they suck, and the way they explain their songwriting in their interviews makes no sense at all
>>
>>123679730
yeah, they sucked balls and their songs are covered more than any other songs ever written. but they sucked because reasons.

In their early days they were basically a shitty teenager skiffle band that got paid to practice every night as a career because the barrier to entry as a professional rock musician was just that low when every nightclub needed a band every night. By the time record labels were looking at them they were already fairly seasoned.

>PLAYBOY: "Alright, but get back to the music itself. You don't agree that the Beatles created the best rock 'n roll that's been produced?"

>LENNON: "I don't. The Beatles, you see... I'm too involved in them artistically. I cannot see them objectively. I cannot listen to them objectively. I'm dissatisfied with every record the Beatles ever fucking made. There ain't one of them I wouldn't remake... including all the Beatles records and all my individual ones. So I cannot possibly give you an assessment of what the Beatles are. When I was a Beatle, I thought we were the best fucking group in the god-damned world. And believing that is what made us what we were... whether we call it the best rock 'n roll group or the best pop group or whatever. But you play me those tracks today and I want to remake every damn one of them. There's not a single one... I heard 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' on the radio last night. It's abysmal, you know. The track is just terrible. I mean, it's great, but it wasn't made right, know what I mean? But that's the artistic trip, isn't it? That's why you keep going. But to get back to your original question about the Beatles and their music, the answer is that we did some good stuff and we did some bad stuff."

This but unironically. The female offshoot they authorized back in 1970 when Let It Be dropped was pretty cool too.

I mean yes? And it's not even a controversial opinion. That's what's scary. We're so divided nowadays that it's safe to say nobody in the next decades or even centuries will be as unaunanimously successful and loved as The Beatles. They were so lucky to be in the right place, at the right time.

the beatles intended to change the world for the better and inspire future musicians. instead, they doomed the world of creatives, for there could never be a band greater than the beatles.

the beatles show the price of glory for others -- every band now plays knowing they will never best their idols
