putting a piece of wood in there is completely useless. just tighten the springs until it stays flush while bending.
but honestly, let your strat float. they sound better in their natural state.

It sounds better with the shim.
Tightening the screws wears the screwholes and even with 5 springs cranked you can still have some give meanwhile the shim is 100% solid.

Semi-hollows with center blocks, chambered guitars, wax potting, and obviously proximity can all help that.
In any case, you don't need just one guitar. Some acoustics may have a timbre that you like for something. No reason to shut yourself off just because of feedback which can be managed.
>>
>>124174534
i'm cool with acoustic guitars but there is no benefit of a semi hollow electric. who wants spongy attack? get a real electric. a solidbody electric. the only thing a semi hollow does is introduce proneness to feedback and gay looking F holes like a violin. it's just an aesthetic thing. yeah, a 335 looks great but it's just a retard decision to use compared to a solidbody.
and thinline teles are even worse. they don't even look good.
not to mention that spiders will get into the f holes, crawl out while you're playing and bite you on the dick.

Spiders can also crawl into the output jack of an electric. Trogly has two episodes where he finds a spider living inside a guitar.

Are spiders conductive? If so, they could be affecting the tone when you plug into the jack. Maybe acting as some sort of transformer that adds harmonics?

I'm not gonna defend cheap guitars too much, but your friend's sounded like it just need a good setup. Strings are touchy on Martins too. That said, the sub-D18s that are good are stuff like the D-16s. They're basically the Standard models, but with a cheaper neck joint. They're still above $1K, but the D-18s and above use the dovetail which requires a lot of personal carving. That alone jacks their prices $1000 more.
>>
>>124186437
it’s possible but I’ve seen martins leave the factory needing a saddle shim. sure you can set it up but why buy from a company that can’t even make a $800 guitar play out of the box? I lived in the desert for a few years while working at a lgs and some brands handled the heat and dryness consistently and others did not.
>>
>>124186463
They usually set them up high because they don't know who's going to be playing it. And a lot of old timers have weird requirements. I've never seen them set up too low. At least the US stuff. That said, I agree it should be setup for the average player.
This new model I got solves a lot of setup issues. I don't care how odd it looks, this is why I bought it. You don't touch the saddle at all. All the work is done through the new neck. Which looks like a bolt on at first, but is a mechanized dovetail. Basically, no more $100 setups and no $1000 neck resets down the line. They have a cheapo model of this same design too, which is cool. You can check them out in stores. See what I mean. They play like electrics.

problem with humbucker in neck and single coil in bridge is volume disparity
my best friend has a keith richards style tele with a PAF in neck and tele bridge pickup
it is literally 2x output volume on neck
i am a litle OCD and can't stand that
the neck pickup will always be louder because strings are wobbling more down there
if you put a humbucker in neck and single in bridge it is very hard to have a well balanced guitar without gimping the tone of the humbucker by sinking it way down

honestly never use the series setting, it's dogshit dude
it works, but i will never do it again on another guitar
the "humbucker" mode just sounds really woofy and muddy, I hate it. but I've never been a big fan of in between positions on any guitar. i usually go full bridge or full neck.

>>124187411

Depends on what you want. Side note i lowered my neck hb flush to the body and i felt it sounded better when i use the bridge pickup. Neck pickup sounded worse but i didnt care

I imagine output has something to do with the ideal pickup height as well
>>
>>124187583
okay i'll spell it out for you. if you adjust the neck humbucker to sound the best way possible
it will be twice as loud as a single coil pickup in the same guitar in a different position
HSS guitars have this issue
a tele that is Single in bridge, hum in neck is even worse because naturally the closer to the bridge a pickup is the lower the output will be
it is virtually impossible to balance the output of pickups on a guitar with a hb in neck and single in bridge because humbuckers are way fuc,kin louder than singles

a single coil is like 3.5-5k ohms and a humbucker is like 7-11k. they might each sound like shit you could do something like run a compressor or push more distortion to clip or gate the audio but those will invariably change the tone even worse than adjusting the pickups or pole pieces. you could probably run a smaller volume pot on the humbucker

Why isnt one trick enough? If they use it enough it merits learning to play around.

Is this general genuinely autistic enough to believe that there is only one right answer to everything and that everyone should play their way or am i being baited by a schizo talking to himself?

your opinion sucks and telecaster is a different beast entirely to the strat. hard tailing a strat is about 15 minutes of work, can be done with wood, with coins, with guitar picks and allows you to do double stop bends without going out of tune. you can tune up your guitar to be however you want it to be, fag boy. no one needs your permission to block a strat trem.
>>
>>124178603
ever heard of an hss strat? if it says fender on the headstock, was made by fender and has all the other accoutrements of a stratocaster, it's a strat, fag

>>124186876
strat neck pickups on 21 and 22 fret guitars are some of the most delicious lead sounds you'll ever get if you know how to play properly, i have ONE single pickup guitar and i do enjoy that guitar and play it often but i'm always missing the neck pickup on there, i can't imagine having a strat and not having the neck pickup, it's half the fun
>>
>>124177108
i don't have a problem with the volume knob cause i play with an open hand grip. my ideal scenario is a single volume pot where the tone is located in that picture but i just leave it stock because that's how the guitars come from factory and i think people should adapt to the controls being in the way. if i'm moving the knobs with my picking hand by accident then an o ring on the pot shaft will usually solve that.

>>
>>124191111
it’s mostly mindless consumerism but the variance in output plays a huge difference in the sound of the pickup and the pole arrangement and size. shit like what day of the week the wire was made on doesn’t, and a preamp makes a hell of a lot more difference on tone than anything you do with the pickup other than where it’s located along the string. active pickups are so great because they have incredibly high output and basically no noise; they don’t color or drop the signal at all and everything can be adjusted with EQ. personally I’m not a big fan of EQ and large tonal options. I want my instrument to sound the way it sounds (pickup size and location) and all the tone be achieved by a single tone knob or the way I play

How to develop technique on the guitar
>>

you start out by imitating or trying to imitate the style of players that you admire, then over the years you naturally just kind of develop your own thing which was based on that

speed is entirely a byproduct of accuracy. the cleaner you can play something, the less wasted movement there is, so naturally you can play it quicker.
just focus on playing slow and clean and one day you'll be amazed how fast you can play.
