Day 1 of guitar.
Tried to play a D chord for 3 hours. Couldn't do it once.
Is it over?
>>
>>124378451
i grabbed a guitar for the first time the other day and composed 1/4th of a song in an hour
>>
>>124378451
learn how to play itaots
>>
>>124378563
+1 it's a great idea.
>>
zoomers really think you can learn something complex in a single day lmao
>>
>>124378563
Yeah, this
>>
>>124378622
One chord is not complex. Its quite bad I cant. 4 hours now.
>>
>>124378631
send a pic of what you're doing

Why not?

>Tl;Dr 5 mins of practice and 8 hours of sleep will trigger enough progress day-to-day

At the moment you are a beginner, i.e your body / muscle memory has zero idea what to do with a guitar. You can spend 5 minutes or 3 hours trying to finger a chord, but the outcome will be the same. Your fingers currently can not handle the resistance of the guitar strings, meaning you can’t press down on them and ring out a chord clearly. 5 mins of day 1, or 3 hours of day 1… you are still on day 1. The muscle memory simply isn’t there yet.

As a beginner your main source of progression will come from the rewiring and adaptation of muscle memory that occurs when you’re sleeping. That’s what will cause your improvement fron day-to-day, week-to-week etc. When you practice fingering chords, and changing chord positions, you are better off spending 5 minutes a day on focused practice that targets the aspects of chords you find the most difficult, and that will cause the brain to try and strengthen your muscle memory when you sleep / rest.
>>
>>124379488
that's an actual thing btw
how many times i've tried to play a riff without any success, and the next day after some sleep i could play it no problem
>>
>>124378451
>Day 1

You dumbass, that's nowhere near enough time. Tomorrow you will be able to play it a little better than you did today, just keep at it
>>
>>124378451
Keep trying anon. Can play it on the upper octave

so x x 0 14 15 14 to start, then move it up to x x 0 2 3 2

Justin guitar in general is a great resource
>>
>>124378451
just play power chords
>>
>>124378451
sometimes you have to sleep to notice progress

Umm no thanks I'm actually heterosexual and male
>>
>back pain keeps ruining my practice
Perhaps I should try the classical posture?
>>
Hendrix said he hated the guitar at first. Clapton found it so difficult he almost quit and threw it away. So keep at it
>>
4 hours for a d chord is hilarious but it might be your guitar. first guitar I had was a cheap piece of shit with action so high you could fit your hand between the fretboard and the strings
>>
I couldn't even bend the strings at first, took me weeks. Now I'm better than David Gilmour.
>>
I couldn't play basic open chords until I was a year in
>>
I thought it was just me, took me a month to get through a beginner’s book on chords and my fingertips and joints hurt like hell so I gave up. I liked drumming but nobody likes a drummer practicing nearby so had to give that up too
>>
>>124378451
As many others pointed out, its the muscle memory and finger independence, that doesn't just show up in a few hours.
It's one of those thousands of hours of dedication things.
Based on your work ethic so far, and the simple fact you use this website, It's not lookin good.
>>
>>124383641
Get a chair without arms or one you can move them out of the way. It lets you use the whole seat and the backrest, so you can be much more relaxed while playing
>>
>>124378451
Fuck that, start playing simple melodies with 1 or 2 strings, and then maybe power chords. After you get comfortable then go for normal chords. Check out the tabs for Dammit by blink 182 and try playing it, doesn't matter if you like it or not, shit is so simple is perfect for starters.
>>
>>124378496
How long did it take you to compose the rest?
>>
i fully comprehended modes on day 3
>>
>>124385856
You lost me at Blink 182, but otherwise, good advice.
>>
I knew this kid in high school that casually claimed he could play the solo to Avenged Sevenfold's Afterlife, sweep picking and all, and he was only a year or two into guitar at that point. I never saw him play but always wondered what that would have actually sounded like and if he was bullshitting

in addition to what others have said about it taking time / sleep to learn, you might also want to go even simpler. Chords are composed of single notes, and for it to sound good you are going to have to press down each string hard enough to make the note ring out well. This can be hard especially for your ring and pinky fingers. So rather than try to play an entire chord, you may want to just take your index finger, hold down a single note, and pluck just that note and see if it rings out well. Then try pressing harder and then lighter and see how those sound. Then move on to your middle finger and so on. Since the specific note doesn't matter, trying doing some further up the neck. It is physically much harder to press down the notes closer to the headstock than those in the middle of the string. The goal should be to build up strength in each of your fingers. Then try going through each note in the chord individually, then put your hand in the actual chord shape but still only focus on each individual note, then try to play the whole chord.

I recommended it because the main riff is very simple and everything else is power chords with some tapping. You can recommend some songs too, I'm sure noob guitar anon would apreciate it.
>>
>>124387306
not tapping, I wnated to say palm mute what the fuck.

It took me like 5 years to realize that I CAN play guitar and that my guitars were all just set up like shit

It took me four years to figure out my guitar's shitty neck was why I couldn't barre chords without pain.

shut the fuck up

>>124378451

You need to develop calluses on your fretting hand and make sure the string gauge isn't too thick.

I learned to play Patience by Guns n Roses on a toy guitar in a week

I really think the trick to doing chord shapes without hitting the other strings is having callouses on your fingertips. Unfortunately those develop after a week or so of continuous playing. Anyway, it took me a week to develop callouses and I eventually got the D Chord since my fingertips weren't soft enough to squish and mute the other strings.
Even today, I haven't touched my guitar seriously in months, but I grab it from now and then fuck around and I can still play because my fingertips are still calloused from 3 years of straight playing.

That was me but after a few months of practice I can play the major open chords pretty good, justin guitar helped a lot
>>

literally the first thing that i tried to learn on guitar, 3 years ago...
>>
>>124392632
>>124392729
for what purpose? just play the easier C-style shape and wrap the thumb around. high E string doesn't matter, nobody can tell.
>>
>>124393632
that's retarded in just about every way. you can switch to playing a Bb or Bbm without contorting your wrist/fingers and also slide to a minor barre easily on the e string. thumb over neck isn't always bad but as a beginner it should be avoided until they have the finger strength to choose between them
>>
>>124393223
Shush. My man is trying to get some pussy.

>>124393917
If playing guitar won't do it, nothing will by god.

>>124378451
It's literally 3 fingers all right next to each other, what in the honest to god fuck do you mean you "can't do it"
>>
>>124394045
My fingers might be too fat, each finger keeps over spilling onto other strings

No friend. Go slower. Even doom-tier slow.
Find another chord close by and play those two so you can hear some variety and get used to moving your hand.
If the sound gets boring, turn it off and play unplugged.
Batman believes in you.

Just dyads anon. Two finger chords only for now.
