>Be old
>Encounter youngfags who are into music in the wild.
>Talk to them about what they are into
>All the same shit I was into at that age, including the stuff that was "fresh" at that time
>Either zero new artists, or Black Midi and zero other new artists.
What was that about this place just being out of touch and cultural cohesion not being measurably dead?

or maybe the only "youngfags" who interact with you are social outcasts into weird, shitty music.

traditional art is played out. now people mostly do tik tok clips, memes, social media hot takes, culture war stuff, ect
>>
>>124436769
Add to this the information age that opened up avenues to a crap ton of overlooked artists from the past. With such a wealth of great material from the past at the palm of your hand, there isn't as much of an impetus to explore or create new music.
>>
>>124436834
No, flatout disagree there. We've had that wealth of knowledge for 2 decades now and it's only lead to further expansion of people's desire to create in the past.

>I saw a young person with a Sonic Youth shirt, surely that means something about culture as a whole
>>
>>124436834
There does seem to be a gradual musical decline that coincided with the information age. It's tough to pin down the exact reason(s) for it though.

No it isn't. There have been three "once in a lifetime" economic meltdowns in the last 25 years and nobody has any money to either get some buddies and a van and go play shows, or pay to go see four guys in a van selling drugs at their shows.
>>
>>124437310
That's one factor, but there are a looooooot of reasons music is so shit these days.
>>
>>124436834
Either that and/or the increased abundance of dopamine-fueling, time-consuming distractions via social media, video games, porn consumption, ect. robbed people of the boredom that served as a creative stimuli for art. And perhaps those things also diverted the remaining creativity away from traditional modes of art and towards what was noted here >>124436769

He's right though.
