How would his career have progressed if he didn't die?
>>
>>124438340
it's literally impossible to answer your question
just remember: everything that happens is God's will
jeff buckley's essence is inextricably linked to his early death
there is no "alternative" jeff buckley where he doesn't drown in that river
there was no music he had left to create in this world because the manner in which he died was bound up with Divine Providence and God's will that jeff make only what he did
that is the fact
on an aesthetic level I believe that this adds to the beauty of jeff's life and ultimately his music
his death imbues what precious little he recorded with a tragic romanticism which makes it so much richer
this may be said of other artists but when one considers the amount of foreshadowing in jeff's lyrics of his ultimate demise there emerges a mystical quality unique to his fortune

tl;dr "progress" in this sense cannot be measured in a career / his legacy that was / is perfect

maybe but they probably would've sucked. sketches for my sweetheart is shit except for two or three tracks
>>
>>124438340
he might have
>made overly-commercial albums
>licenced his music for Toyota ads, toothpaste ads, etc
>made political statement in keeping with the rest of Hollywood
>done songs with rap features
>done colabs with Olivia Rodrigo or Cardi B
>become part of Jimmy Fallon's house band (if he has one, if not others of his sort)
etc etc etc

he benefits from not having been subjected to the Truly, Madly, Deeply test
>>
Bowie said he was fantastic and the future of music. He said the same thing about Arcade Fire I think, so look at how they turned out and judge for yourself.
>>
>>124440955
fair enough although buckley was a main influence on radiohead and coldplay and thereby almost everyone. who tf is influenced by arcade fire
>>
>>124440972
>talentless hack claims talentless hack#2 is the future
>>
>>124440955
>He said the same thing about Arcade Fire I think
yes
his mistake seems to have been thinking competent musicians were the future of music,
>>
>>124440972
Who the fuck is influenced by Radiohead or Coldplay? Arcade Fire inspired literally everything you'd hear on alternative radio from like 2008-2018, for better or worse.

yes
his mistake seems to have been not understanding that kpop is the future of music

i don't see how anyone can really be influenced by jeff buckley per se. the guy was a serious quadruple threat (looks, voice, guitar, songwriting) all of which made him who he was so wtf how many sexy white boys with mad skillz are there?
>>

Shawn Mendez
already 10x more popular
>>
>>124440972
>radiohead and coldplay are influential
doubt
name three (3) known bands each has influenced

hard mode: no local Radiohead or Coldplay cover bands
>>
>>124441077
bieber, mendez, sheeran, mac ayres
>>
>>124440972
None of these are influential except maybe Coldplay.
>>
>>124441131
mostly stuff like travis, keane, kodaline, the fray, that shit
but pop people too
john mayer covered radiohead and namedropped coldplay
mac demarco namedropped coldplay
>>

To even say their names in the same sentence as Buckleys. I think I am done with this board.
>>
>>124441755
Influenced, not greater than.

This is how I feel about SOPHIE, she easily could have made more music videos and released Heaven Suspended in lossless at least

christ tards be like
>newborn infant gets thrown off a rooftop and splatters on the pavement, breaking all it's bones and internal organs and suffering excruciating pain before finally dying
>"it was all le god's plan <3"
>>
>>124438340
i'd bet if he stuck to his guns and didn't go commercial, he'd be one of the biggest and most respected names in music ever.
>>124440685
pretty based. you make a good point in that the discography he left was perfect so it's not tarnished by a potential dip
>>124441077
>i don't see how anyone can really be influenced by jeff buckley per se.
???
>>
>>124438340
he would've gone avant-garde just like his father
>>
>>124440685
>>124438340
Kurt would have been an Asch/Smithonian-esque folky and Jeff would have become Gen X Michael Bolton (he already was).
>>
>>124441020
>who is influenced by Radiohead
Arcade Fire
>>
>new album every 4-6 years
>never comes close to Grace, but still decent
>really cringe on social media
>collabed with other forgotten p4k core in late 2010s as a desperate attempt to reclaim relevancy
