Thinking about getting either a brand new gen 3 katana for $650 nzd or a second hand gen 2 for $300. Is the gen 3 worth all the updates?

if you don't have an interface the gen 3 would be better cause it has a stereo jack, that would let you hear your mix better without having to plug into your computer or listen playback properly

If you do have an interface its a lot of value for a used mk2 honestly. Can't go wrong, i don't consider them substantially different sound wise and katanas are underrated by boomer licking retards.

whats an interface? im new to this lol

i would just get a katana gen 3
An audio interface is where you plug your microphones/instruments/amps into to record them. From the interface you can monitor all the sound (playing live instruments or vocals and the one already recorded) wiithout any latency.

If you don't have an interface that means that if you wanna record your guitar parts you're gonna have to connect your katana via USB to your computer.

The stereo headphone/record jack means you have left and right channels

The mk2 has a mono jack, This means everything will be clustered in the middle making it harder to listen to your part or detect other instruments, in stereo you can just pan the other stuff left and right and you will hear everything more easily which can help you focus on your performance more.

i would just get a gen 3 to keep it short in your case, it will likely be a better option later.

For now since u sound so new focus on practicing and maybe writing a song and never give up.

Buy the cheapest one, whatever upgrades the expensive ones have you most likely don't need them. If you just started playing the Katana is great, you don't need anything beyond it (most people don't either)

Just buy a tube amp from monoprice
