>Ulrich failed to find any problems with the heavily distorted, compressed mastering of Death Magnetic which was the subject of a good deal of criticism. He called the mix "smokin'" and defended the practice of brickwalling on the grounds that "That's how they make albums now."[3]Wait hasn't he admitted to having severe tinnitus since the early 90s? Don't think he's the best guy to judge an album's sound quality.
The guitar hero mix is essential and makes it into an easy 8/10 album. Only song they should habe dropped is the gay Unforgiven rehash
>>124447510It proves how much he lost his touch.>we can't do guitar solos in St. Anger because they're not cool nowadays>we have to do a shitty brickwalled mix because that's cool nowadays>following bad trends that we all hated and wished would go away back then
Why do they call it "brickwalled?"
>>124449308When you look at the waveform it looks like a solid wall from top to bottom
I didn't find it unusual when I heard it. I think you guys are just autistic. 95% of people don't care for this sort of thing and just hear good music. It's like /v/ complaining about FPS when nobody even notices it.
>>124450491You're on a board for autistic music fans, of course we're gonna notice it.And you're wrong btw, tons of people even normies started getting tired of awful overblown or sludgy production which is why albums aren't made that way anymore
>>124450619Everyone hated brickwalling unless they were Lars and had crispy fried ears so couldn't tell the difference.
>>124447510>Don't think he's the best guy to judge an album's sound qualityHis drum sound on AJFA should've already been clue enough that he should not be in charge of anything sound related
>>124450747Rick Rubin did. It wasn't just Lars
>>124450491>95% of people don't care for this sort of thing and just hear good music.people do care they just can't express what it is they dislike. the brickwalled sound is actively unpleasant and it it drives people away. it's not a coincidence that rock music died when this shit ass mixing trend became the norm in rock albums.
>>124451742>the brickwalled sound is actively unpleasant and it it drives people away. it's not a coincidence that rock music died when this shit ass mixing trend became the norm in rock albums.Pretty sure there was more to it than that. Stuff like bands having simplistic arrangements with power chords and no solos was also a factor. Even without brickwalling a band like Papa Roach would still be lame as fuck because they were completely untalented musicians.
