Is Rob Halford the only really successful gay man in rock who isn't judged by gayness?

When it comes to the likes of Elton John and Queen guy, their gayness almost overshadows their music, to where many modern people are more fans of them as "gay icons" than they are of them as artists and probably know like two songs
>>
I'd jump his bones.
>>
well Priest were a heavy metal band, so of course nobody will see 'gayness' in that compared to Elton or Queen's more flamboyant pop sound. Also Rob came out long after they were good and nobody cared at that point.

Rob may have only come out after the band's peak, but he wasn't all that subtle before. Defenders of the Faith has like four songs about gay sex.

>their gayness almost overshadows their music
LOL
this never came close to happening.
unless you are so young you think their careers started with their biopics

Halford is a much, much, much smaller star than Mercury or Elton John.
And no one really cared about any of them being gay since they already had so many great albums, each. What are we going to do? SUddenly pretend we don't like our favourite music?

a lot of rock songs were written for shock value and fans never took them to be literal. Same reason bands wrote songs about fucking underage girls.

They were often sincere, listeners assumed it was shock/joke

Looking at you, Ted Nugent

Rock bands did fuck underaged girls, the concept wasnt outlawed until the 2010s and all men still think built 16 year olds are hot, its reality, we're just not allowed to say it now

Also, Priests "gay" songs were always innuendo or could be taken for just edgy metal shit. Slaves? Ok, thats s&m, but its also metal. A viper peering from its coil? Snakes are metal, penises are gay, etc etc
>>
>>124454563
you personally saw them have sex with underage girls?
>>
>>124454214
>>124454165
that was because their fucking fanbase was teenage boys so you ofc bang out the product for your audience to play in their Camaro in the high school parking lot
>>
>>124454495
it's funny but tops usually have more variance in what music they're into whereas bottoms are the cliched swishy gay men who listens to exclusively female pop singers
>>
>>124453788
A good portion of rockstars did gay stuff https://youtube.com/shorts/a5DXq7F0DFQ?si=C7jVvtex1Sa3YABX

Don't forget rob raped jani lane

I could be wrong, but I think Freddie Mercury only "officially" came out to the press/public a few days before his death, although of course everyone already knew. There was a headline like:
>Mercury confirms he is gay, has AIDS
>>
>>124454112
Most listeners don't even notice lyrics.
>>
>>124453788
Bob Mould (Husker Du)
"Biscuit" (Big Boys)
Darby Crash (The Germs)
Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks)
>In B4 "Punk was always gay...."
>>
>>124455094
back then only gay people got aids, so the media wanted to make sure it stayed with the gay community and not to scare straight people thinking they are now getting it. So they were basically saying "Freddie has aids, but don't worry, he's gay so you don't need to worry about it spreading to straight people", hence the announcement.

Although I dispise faggots I must say this could be very well Priest's best album. The feedbacking guitars sound absolutely brilliant and the old fag himself is screaming his lungs out like no other.
Important fact though, it's not really a "live" album. Some of it was recorded live but they did _a lot_ of overdubs in the studio.

Rob said only the vocals were overdubbed, which was very common at the time.
