That shit is not real post-hardcore, it was bonified nu metal crap with le screaming backing vocals and "DROP D GUITARS BRO!" just like fucking Glassjaw and all that other poser shit

Just wanna make you, and everyone else who cares to know aware,

that "real post-hardcore" is a bullshit category.

Whether or not something really qualifies in a genre, is a bullshit discussion.

It's a dick measuring contest between "who knows their shit better."

Bet some of you guys remember that "real emo" meme.

It's making fun of people who think that's actually the right thing to talk about.

Genres change all the time.

They're shorthands. Conventions.

This shit hasn't existed forever.

Genres actually should be the way we grasp how it changes.

Thursday codifies a lot of the sounds in earlier, "rawer" post-hardcore.

It sounds cleaner, more glossy.

If you're calling it nu metal, it probably just means you don't have a good grasp of the historical evolution of either genre. :)

Also, Glassjaw is good too.

I mean, maybe not my cup of tea.

But Glassjaw and Thursday just sound different.

It sounds like you're collapsing all the music you don't actually get, into the same category, and shitting all over it to feel better about the fact you don't get it.

And it makes it hard to actually talk about the fucking music and what we like in it.

So, stop!
>>
>>124463935
Hey, if you call him a faggot, he's probably just going to want to keep talking your ear off about how he knows better when he doesn't.

He's just gonna dig deeper.

So maybe don't.

Because he's fucking annoying as hell and I want him to stop too!
>>
>>124465951
I agree on Gospel.

One of my favorites in the 2000s.

Fast and fun as hell!
>>
>>124463482
Oh and by the way I love Unwound.

But I prefer their 90s shit.

Their earlier, "rawer" sound.

I appreciate Leaves Turn Inside You.

But not as much as I feel like I "should."

Tried to get into it in the past.

Could only really get into some of it.

I actually like Full Collapse better.

Because it's rawer, more kinetic.

You type like a faggot and your shits all retarded
>>
>>124467059
Ok, guys.

Back to square one.

Doing this for you, not him.

Let me actually translate what that guy is writing to me.

"Dumb it up," so people who are even a little smarter than he is can actually figure out what's going on in his head when he's writing it:

"These words are way too big. I'm worried they're gonna fuck me in the ass. The things that those words are about have to be bad then. That makes this dude gay. Better call him gay. Also, better call him retarded.

Wait, he's not retarded. He's actually smarter than me. So, uh, better call his shit retarded instead."

My shit's not any more retarded than anyone else's shit.

Because shit can't be retarded.

This guy, calling my shit retarded,

makes him probably more retarded than even the other retards who call everyone a "faggot" the moment they remember no one taught them how to read right.

So, this guy's what we'd call a "latent homosexual."

why did so much good music come out of new jersey?
>>

The emo and post hardcore scene in that era is insane. Everything happening in Long Island the time too. We didn't know how good we had it.
>>
>>124472574
The fucking lyrics to Invalid Litter Dept,

might be some of my favorite song lyrics ever.

Invalid Litter Dept maybe top 10 post-hardcore songs period.
>>
>>124473842
How are those some of your favorite lyrics? It's random dumbass gibberish like all of their other songs.
>>
>>124474013
Maybe the meaning to the lyrics hasn't actually been found yet.

I actually don't think it's random dumbass gibberish, though.

Because there's symbolic exploration of a lot of different themes.

Death, renewal.

Wish-fulfillment.

Etc. etc.

Emo music seems to be the best in the shittiest fucking places.

I was excited to visit Long Island for the first time. Thought it might be cool.

Turns out it's just a long fucking island and that's it.

I'd want to write emo there too.
>>
>>124474144
It's dumb horse shit like all of their other songs
>>
>>124474519
It sounds actually like you're a random dumbass who calls words written by other people gibberish so you don't have to think about the words you right.

Maybe you should get the fuck off /mu/ for a little bit until you stop being so fucking miserable.

Feel free to come back when you've found a way not to shit all over everything in full view of the entire world.

Not anywhere close to being better than Thursday either
>>
>>124474539
You should seethe some more, faggot
>>
>>124474539
Sorry, words you write*.

Let me reiterate, with the typo fixed:

It sounds actually,

like you're a random dumbass,

who calls words written by other people gibberish,

so you don't have to think about the words

YOU WRITE.

Didn't wanna give this guy the one last bit of ammo he had, now did I?

Oh wait. Yeah I know I'm reddit spacing.

Fuck off asshole.
>>
>>124474562
I'm happy to seethe,

as long as you're happy to keep writing in this thread. :)

Sorry, guys.

Forgot to change my name to Gigafaggot.

Since he's a latent homosexual.

And he was going to call me a faggot, first chance he got.
>>
>>124474567
kek
>>
Anyway I wish I could post the lyrics here.

Because there actually is a lot of cool stuff to glean out of them.

"Dancing on the corpses' ashes."

Lots of cohesiveness, in general.

It's a song that makes me happy and gives me new hope to start again.

Even after being traumatized etc.
>>
>>124474603
I wish you would kill yourself
>>
>>124474612
I'm sorry you wish that.

Because if that's the first thing that comes to mind, then it's actually really sad, and makes me worried about you.

So you really ought to stop posting here.

Because the more you post, the sadder it seems to make you.
>>
>>124470965

i wish they still made music like this, now they just make quirk chungus millenialcore
>>
>>124474626
>quirk chungus millenialcore
Lol. What's a band like this?

I'm sure there are a lot.
>>
>>124474629
Pierce the Veil. Other one I was trying to think of.
>>
>>124463780
I felt like this about The Waiting when the big sound, crossover exposure of Full Collapse dropped, 2001. Along w/ Thursday, Victory had been collecting emo hardcore bands like Grade, BoySetsFire (all great Victory records), excellent period for that label. Grade's Under The Radar is definitely imo the pick of litter

I've listened to Full Collapse, here and there, certainly stands up, but it's been decades since I re-listened to the Waiting, to your post, anon, I'll put it on for a memory lane listen.
>>
>>124474620
You should stop posting here with your faggot spacing and your trauma dumping. No one here cares. Go get a fucking diary.
>>
Also this might be a bit left-field,

but screamo and emoviolence are still "kind of post-hardcore."

Since it was a reaction to the exhaustion of hardcore punk in the 80s, and 90s.

A good example would be pg. 99's Document #5.

There are punk shouts, but also screams.
>>
>>124474683
I don't think I'm the one dumping trauma here.

Every time you react this way, trying to hurt other people on the internet,

that's the trauma you're dumping.

Maybe you should consider getting your own fucking diary.

Seems like you actually do need one.

Because you shit your feelings all over everyone else on the internet which prevents you from actually thinking about them.

Which is what makes you so dumb, unfunny, and retarded.
>>
>>124474712
Every other post is I WAS TRAUMATIZED. No one cares about you or the dumb shit you keep posting. Half of your responses are to yourself. You'd be better off talking to a wall. I wish I knew why emo and post hardcore brought out the biggest retards on this site.
>>
>>124474734
I was traumatized.

I no longer am.

You still are.

Because every time you see that word,

it produces an angry reaction.

I wish I knew why emo and post hardcore brought out the biggest retards on the site, too.

Consider getting the fuck off it for a bit.
>>
>>124474761
You're right.

I would be better off talking to a wall.

I might actually start expecting a wall to talk back better than you.
>>
>>124474761
Wouldn't expect anything less than a complete autistic response from you
>>
>>124474794
Good. Because you shouldn't.

Wasn't expecting anything less than for you to respond more and more,

getting angrier and angrier,

while everyone watches you take your dumb little shit.

Fuck off. :)
>>
>>124474812
Kill yourself :)
>>
>>124474828
It sounds like you are very traumatized.

I won't kill myself.

I'm glad I didn't.

I hope you don't either.

I'm no going to respond anymore.

Because you're clearly hurting.
>>
>>124474828
How did this discussion devolve into this?
>>
>>124475522
I can try to explain. I think it's because they were immediately dismissive of the lyrics in a song.

They kept calling the lyrics gibberish.

I pointed out that they didn't really seem to be considering the content of the lyrics.

They doubled down.

I pointed out that they didn't really seem to be considering the words I was writing.

They told me to kill myself.

I didn't want to talk to them anymore after that, because it's dangerous to do so.

Because it usually means they're hurting.

I think threads about emo and post-hardcore attract people who diminish others' writing and feelings.

Because they're insecure about their own writing and feelings.

All my responses to them were intended to point that out, in a way that eventually got them to take a step back.
>>
>>124466243
>I prefer their 90s shit
I can see where you’re coming from
I think New Plastic Ideas is pretty close, but Leaves Turn Inside You really stands out for tracks like “Below The Salt”. I like the slow build.
>>
That was easy.
>>
>>124475668
It's up there for sure. Thrice are underrated as fuck.
>>
>>124475552
Yeah, this site can be pretty toxic
Some people are way too passionate about defending their opinions on music. It’s the same way with people who watch sports.
>>
>>124475736
Yeah, we can be passionate, but defending opinions doesn't mean shitting on everyone else's!

>>124475642
I used to have the drone from the opening track on Leaves as my morning alarm.

My brother and I shared a room and it pissed him off. Had to stop being so autistic lol
