Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon [Warner Bros., 1971]
If even Taylor's diehard supporters have acknowledged that his music has lost its drive (lost its _drive_?), then even a sworn enemy can acknowledge that he's capable of interesting, intricate material. Old bluesmen spent much of their lives on the road; although they often got into it, Taylor is an egotist, plain and simple. A born-rich noveau star, he feels moved to switch between a down-home homestead (what does he raise there? hopes?) and the Holiday Inn, compelled by the self-pitying, conniving voice that is his curse. Having used up most of his big songs on the debut, the material here is more onanistic and escapist, the themes self-conscious by default. Interesting, intricate, unlistenable. C

Many of the best classical composers were wealthy

James Taylor’s music is versatile. He doesn’t stick to the same style, which means he’ll disappoint some fans with his music. But I think every album has a little bit of everything for everyone.

Was aimed at Northeastern richfags who didn't connect with California hippie culture. Same with Simon & Garfunkel.

they have that typical nasal Yankee WASP New England accent

Correct. The Baawston accent was the result of potato niggers, it was different from the "classic" WASP New England accent.
