>estate sale an hour away>blurry pics of a bunch of pedals, old Fender amps, a few acoustics, a lap steel, and a Telecaster in an old tweed case>can’t make out hardly any details on anything because the pictures are so poor>sale starts Friday morning >add says will not answer any questions prior to the start of the sale>will have to take time off work to drive and hour to gamble on whether or not the gear is shit or notWhy do people do this? Why not just put in the add what you’re selling or take half decent pics?

>>127600035He's very good. I like him. A lot of early guitar songs I learned were Bowie
>>127600077>can't refundwhat scam site are you buying from?
>>127600041Because they are grieving the death of a loved one, and doing a while list of terrible jobs, like selling off the possessions of their bother/dad/cousin/etc. They aren't a store and you aren't their customer.
>>127600107I'm not sure if Bowie carries the songs through his vocals or what but musically there's a lot going on even if the parts aren't complex
Is this the Jaguar appreciation thread?
>>127600189Yeah we appreciate how much they SUCKJust kidding I have no strong feelings either way
>>127600153Nta but possessions are just possessions, if they're so sentimental a proper photo cant be taken, they wouldn't be for sale>you aren't their customerIf they're holding a sale and he's buying, then he is the customer
>>127600171I love his voice, very distinctive, but the songwriting is what's really standout for me. Not very complex, but tasteful and still "poppy"
>>127600189I don't like short scale guitars. Hands are too big, but strangely I have an average penis

>>127600299Yeah, I've played a Jag. I'm sure I could get used to it in time, but why bother>>127600328Like pop music
>>127600379Oh yeah Bowie after Mick left was very poppy but not in a bad way, I love his glam rock era but Station to Station, Low, Diamond Dogs (some dongs on there are very pop-esque) and scary monsters and super creeps are such great albums.

>>127600647Can you flex it open? If so the crack is in the wood and it looks tight enough that you can probably fix it yourself with wood glue, a syringe and clamps. For the finish you can probably use sharpie and drop some super glue over it to seal
>>127600647if you just wanted an excuse for a new guitar, get one. otherwise, there is functionally nothing wrong with that guitar. here's a beat to shit stradivari violin that's had 30 cracks and god knows what else but people still play it and it's still worth millions

>>127600720With enough force you could flex anything open. I tried bending it a little while it was detuned and it feels pretty solid, not actually separating or anything. But there has to be some level of progressive structural damage. The poly finish is supposed to be hard but brittle so it probably looks worse than it does on the inside but at some point it bent more than it was supposed to.>>127600755I'm just conflicted because I hoped it would last long enough for me to graduate to something of a higher price range since lateral jumps are demotivating but I don't feel good or invested enough in the hobby to get a 900+ dollar guitar so that's a bummerI'm not throwing it in the trash but I also don't feel comfortable using the poor thing like you're supposed to. My current thinking is I'll get a new main guitar and keep this down in drop C and play some riffs sometimes. It's not like you're going to be shredding on a LP anyway so I might enjoy trying something different with better access to learn that stuff.I'm thinking some type of Ibanez RG421 might be the cheapest you wouldn't hate playing while not expensive enough to cry too much about it. Looking good application wise so far. I did not sand the fender logo all the way off as I didn’t want to take too much wood off. I was worried it would still be visible but it’s so faint at this point that if it’s still there after the next and final coat, I use it at a guide to place the water slide sticker directly on top. Whoever I bought them from did an excellent job scaling them perfectly. Honestly the wet sanding and buff out are the only phases that have me a bit intimidated, so far it’s been a very smooth process with the help of StewMacs ridiculously comprehensive videos on refinishing guitars..

>>127601164Ryan feels authentic and actually keeps and plays alot of his gear (and sells what he doesn't instead of hoarding it). Very respectable guy.
>>127601282it's possible that it could get worse but right now it just appears to be the finish. breaks are pretty easy to fix, there's no wood missing they just go back together. all i'm saying is you have time, it's just impossible to tell how much time
>>127600953>I tried bending it a little while it was detuned and it feels pretty solid, not actually separating or anythingThat means it's fine. Carry on as normal
>>127601238isn't there something kind of cool about some guy showing up with a poopy guitar and playing really well, thoughever?
>>127601380Not really
>>127601331>>127601331I didn't use a lot of force because I didn't REALLY want to break it, but it's not "flopping around" or separating easily, like it probably holds tune worse and could progressAnyway, what happened is, I didn't play for 8 years, the guitar was tuned during storage, I had a retard moment and during restringing I took all the strings out at the same time and when tightening the new strings there was a crack at some point which is when I think existing cracks in the finish extended but I'm not sure how far they used to reachIn my defense I looked at a tutorial video and that guy all the strings detached at the same time because I guess it's supposed to be safe for a guitar with a healthy neck
>>127601380Nobody is gonna care if it's chinaware if it sounds good
>>127601429this
>>127601422i'm amazed there aren't more cracks if this thing was in a storage unit for 8 years
>>127601429>>127601453thanks bros, my heart was saying eastman but there's a stigma regarding non-martins in bluegrass circles. which is funny because they all brag about how loud their guitar is so they can be heard. i think it's cool to be different anyway but they do sound good
>>127601469I mean, I'm still gonna make fun of you, but I don't really mean it
>>127601233Get the Martin.
>>127601422>I didn't use a lot of force because I didn't REALLY want to break itYour posts made it sound like it's already gone, so what would be the loss in "breaking" it further? If you want to reinforce it and can't pay anyone, open it as much as you can, put some wood glue in there as deep as possible and clamp it up. A clamp and glue has to be like $20 max
>>127600035Never saw the appeal of Bowie. I mean there's a couple of good songs, but in general I couldn't care less.
>>127601552Vocally he's the most interesting artist of all time IMO
Speaking of Bowie how does he get that really muted acoustic tone in the man who sold the world?
>>127601487what if the binding flies off
>>127601627Then you fix it yourself or get it repaired. How likely do you think that is, that the binding will come off?
>>127601531>so what would be the loss in "breaking" it further?I mean my thinking was it might still work for a bit, nobody knows for how long. Maybe i was overdramatic?I was at the time still researching if it's better to preserve and stabilize it in this condition or easier to glue it back on if/when it properly splits (might be hyperbole) because I saw that debate on different forums so I didn't want to make a rash decision. In any case, it's more vulnerable than it should be.Eh, I'll keep playing gently and see if it can hold tune after the new strings should be done adjusting

Would a high quality power conditioner/voltage regulator improve noise from the guitar when my wall sockets aren't grounded? I get insane noise even with humbuckers and playing with everything else turned off. Does anyone have experience with this?
>>127602368I would try every variable before getting one, but it may be the solution
>>127602443Sure, I'm getting an electrician tomorrow and see what he can do. Kinda hard to get a deep, effective ground rod in this area. I have Mogami Platinum (top notch) cables, new guitar jack, different guitars (active pickups are better but still), I use plugins plugged directly intoy interface, I have TONEX pedals. Humbucker passive pickups. A DI box with ground lift. Noise gate plugins.Nothing gets rid of the noise man :(

>>127602779technically you could do it all with just the string action gauge, but if you want to be precise you can get the feeler gauges. i personally don't find radius gauges necessary unless you are using radiused sanding blocks

>>127602802The feeler gauges would make setting the string height a bit easier no? In a video I watched they used the radius gauges to determine if you need to put shims in the saddles of the floating bridge also.>>127602810Fret polishers yes, lemon oil no because Maple.
washburn really fell off. what do they even sell now besides the nuno signature?
>>127602856depends on how you measure the string height i suppose. i go pretty much exactly the same way dave does (daves world of fun stuff/youtube). feeler gauges are particularly good at measuring relief and nut slot height tho

I just got back from a big audition, and the verdict is in: I'm out. Everything was going great, I nailed all the parts of the songs we ran through including the difficult leads. We all seemed to get along, at least on a musical level. After a spirited jam, we took a break and smoked a cig in the alley. The bandleader said, "Hey man, you play great and we love your look, but you gotta ditch the earrings."I pushed him in the chest. "If that's the case, I'm afraid I can't join, because these earrings mean a lot to me. My grandfather is a cherokee. He's a very wise man, and before he died he gave these to me. He pierced my ears on his deathbed himself."the bandleader listened along, nodding his head with understanding. He said, "Hey, I'm sorry bro. I didn't know that." and I forgave him.
What’s the deal with earrings? You poke a hole in your ear, hang a little piece of metal from itsuddenly, you’re fashionable! And people act like size doesn’t matter.“Oh, these are subtle.”Yeah until they’re the size of a hula hoop! That’s not jewelry, that’s a satellite dish! And why do they always come in pairs? What if I just want one? Then you’re “making a statement.”What’s the statement?“I lost the other one in the shower.”
>>127603290Whoooa, whoa, whoa! You pushed him in the chest?! You don’t push the bandleader, buddy, no… no, no, no, no! That’s how you end up out on the curb with your amp still buzzing! But earrings… earrings! They’re a statement! They’re a lifestyle! You don’t just take ‘em out because some bass player in cargo shorts doesn’t like ‘em. No, no, no… you stand your ground! Those earrings, they’re part of your essence!Your grandfather pierced your ears on his deathbed? That’s drama! That’s rock ‘n’ roll! That’s better than anything you’re playing onstage! You don’t ditch earrings like that, you build the whole act around ‘em! Call the band Cherokee Tears! …you’ll be a legend, Rikki, a legend!”
