I’m painting just my headstock on my JM and that alone has been a bit of an odyssey. If you do go that route, StewMac has a literal idiot proof guide on painting with steps for refinishing as well. You should check out the end of the third video to get an idea of just how nice a finish you can expect, and this is with spray cans, no fancy equipment needed aside from a decent sander in your case.

Very rarely do I pick up a telecaster and think it feels good. Not sure why. I like the looks of them just fine. I think it's the neck. If it had an SG style neck it would be great. And I would also say to cut out a top horn and shape both horns to more of a point. Then I would put in two humbuckers and change the controls to a Gibson SG (the best guitar) style controls. The headstock would be circular, which has never been done before.

>>127691290I have a guitar tuned down to B with a wounded 4th string and there's no issue anymore. So just get used to playing 12s or whatever the slimmest gauge with a wound g string is.
remember to stretch your strings after a string change. they need to settle on the nut, tuners, and bridge, and the winds needs to settle among themselves.

But then I fucked with the saddles because I didn't know what I was doing and now it's all fucked up and I can't afford to get it fixed. Almost every time I see people talk about Wide Ranges they mention "oh but they aren't like Gibsons humbuckers" yet the comparisons sound nearly identical with any gain.

It's just supposed to be a humbucker with better individual string articulation. Not like a drastically brighter pickup or anything. I think Tim Shaw's newer "Cunife" stuff is supposed to be an even bigger improvement on the idea. Except he made pups for all types, including Jazzmaster widerange.

new guitar modified '76 Yamaha SA-60 Seems like a fun project to update some of the pieces the seller threw on this. The brass theme with custom parts is really cool, but I don't like the Aliexpress tier Bigsby, tuners, or pickups he put on this. Thankfully, Gotoh tuners are cheap, and finding the original pickups wasn't too hard.

Japanese "Traditional" models are now better than anything Fender Vintera series offers, since they actually use alder in the Traditional II and have a 9.5 radius.
i like humbuckers but really no point if pickups sound so similar once they're even slightly overdriven (people mistake the tele used on stairway to heaven all the time) so you might as well go for the cleans from the single coils. playing a guitar all the time and especially standing up will eventually cause you joint pain so you want something light and comfortable. you also want something easily recognizable, aesthetic, and iconic. so really your only choice is strat but buy an american one used so fender doesn't get the money
