I pay for online lessons because I'm looking for specific shit that's paywalled and conveniently organized and I don't have time to transcribe and organize it all myself (though I do try). And also I'm decent at transcribing melodies/contours of pitch, but rhythmic information is a pain in the fucking ass for me to transcribe unless it's something simple like triplets or straight 16ths.

Bland? The 4 biggest most influential metalcore bands are bland? Those weren't the only metalcore bands I listened to, I just liked them the most. I liked Atreyu, Enter Shakari, some bullet but not really that much, some BMTH. Basically I really liked the bands that innovated and created the genre and not the candy asses that came after them and made it all about their image. But I also listened to a lot of other music at the time including just about every genre from 1950 onward. I was really big into children of bodom and paramore around the same timeframe. I liked earlier ADTR stuff a lot. Idk.
>>
>>127731870
Wait until you figure out that half this shit is transcribed incorrectly. Like there are some songs out there that are not transcribed correctly by -anyone- and the only way to actually figure them out is to listen to the master tracks and watch live footage. I would venture to say that 90% of transcriptions are completely wrong, and the other 10% are still wrong but less wrong. The sooner you start learning things by ear and by watching people play, the better.
>>
>>127731870
Also unfortunately the rhythm portion of music is the one that needs to be natural. You can always learn the melodies and chords but if you can't naturally feel the rhythm and timing of a song you might be a little fucked. I don't really know if that can be taught.

It's not feeling it that's the problem for me, it's being able to accurately notate it. Having different combinations of odd tuplets, different kinds of grace notes, dotted notes, and all that and being able to transcribe it accurately and quickly on my first try is not my forte. Sometimes a song will have kind of a swing feel and none of the options available in Guitar Pro will sound quite right.
>>

Dimarzio SD or Duncan JB for the bridge?
>>
>>127733564
i always just used pencil and paper
but try doing em at separate times
thats how i usually do it if its something hard
go through and jot down slashes for the rhythms FIRST. write those down, tie em up how you want, stacatto/accents etc, THEN do the notes and just put them on the rhythm
you wrote down prior

just subdivide. if the fastest notes are sixteenth notes count in 16th notes and figure where they land. if its swing or in compound time you count in 3s. same deal

JB is always the correct answer

millenialcore

I wouldn't put killswitch in normie core. Adam from killswitch produced a fuck ton of metalcore bands from 1998 onward. If anyone, he's responsible for the genre. The rest of the bands I couldn't give a shit less about, they were just meh.

You don't understand how prolific that pickup was until you realize wait that dann huff, evh, john oates, randy rhoades, billie joe armstrong, dave mustaine, jeff beck, kirk cobain etc used that pickup.

I will probably go JB as of now. I do prefer more clarity. Also if it was the pickup on RIP and I love it. For the neck though, I was definitely thinking of going for the Dimarzio PAF. Murray's creamy leads on those 80s records are just so good and exactly what I'd want out of a neck pup.

He got to the gig, after a long car ride. The kind where everything is still moving when you stop. Hypnotized by the road. And not in the way Kerouac wrote of. And he felt like someone was watching him. He walked to the gate and pressed the buzzer. He saw a curtain pulled back in the distant cottage, light pouring out into the early fall air. They hesitated. But ultimately buzzed the gate open. He walked, somberly to the door. They let him in. It was a basement gig. All he had has his Stylaphone synth, and foot castanets. He was in the middle of a version of Mr. Crowley when he... He stopped. And began a long oration. Something between a lecture and a sermon. And the people in the dimness leaned against tall tables. And in couches of black velvet. And he spoke of herbology and astronomy. Legal theory. Abstract algebra, and demonology. He had many pregnant pause during this. Causing jeers and outbursts, from the crowd. He focused in on the thought of true genuineness. And argued for and against it's merit. He suddenly began talking about his physical brawn, and how he was a ruthless wind. A reckoning of fear. All the while he was droning on an f# on the Stylaphone. He began rocking back and forth and someone from the crowd gave him a one string oil can slide guitar. He began playing Duane Allman solos. He wasn't even invited to the party. Nobody knew who he was. That was the day I started actually hearing music.

What frequencies should I cut when playing with a clean sound? For example, a guitar is not a bass, right? So I can people cut a little bit of the bass of the guitar signal because it helps to reduce noise and it helps to make the sound less muddy. But what is the range? What's a good values that sound engineers tend to cut? And about the high frequencies? I also know that we have to cut some highs because they can make the sound "fuzzy" and it can generate some "whistles" effect in the sound. So it's a good practice to cut some highs. But again, what are the range of the values that sound engineers tend to cut? Let's say the context is you playing in your room by yourself. You are not playing with a band yet. And what is the best EQ to use? Graphic or dynamic? How can I make my ear better? I know I must work it, train it, but how does one do that? How do I train myself to know when I have a good tone? What is a good tone even? How do I know when I got one?

>>

>>
>>127737811
Oh yeah, much easier, I ended up taking the back off and blocking that whole gap up with old playing cards, wiggled the tremolo to make sure it wouldn't budge then loosened the strings before adjusting, I'll do that from now on. Action is still high but better than bzzz bzzz on every note. Might have to get it set up properly by a pro if I want it dropped.
>>
>>127737889
nice. yeah if your relief is within spec then the frets are going to have be leveled. it could only be a single high one, i've seen them get really out of whack. glad it isn't such a pain in the ass for you anymore

I did the neck relief according to the Music Nomad kit, maybe the action is different for Ibanez RG's out of the factory because both E strings currently were/are at .09, a far cry from the .06 and .07 this gauge says for high action

such a weird place to measure action i always do 15th or 17th fret because there always seems to be a hump around where the board meets the body. 5/64" and 4/64" for me at 17th fret is what i would consider criminally low. 5/64" is .078

sorry i'm not used to measuring there so i really couldn't tell you. i know that measuring at the 12th is going to be slightly affected by relief

They say that hump is a recurring problem with set neck guitars due to the glue rising over time. Though I don't have a set neck guitar, I've experienced the same when I had the fretboard extended adding a 25th fret. Buzzing while playing the 23rd fret only 2 years after. Principle probably holds true.

There's probably a lot of glue on cheaper set necks, but a nicely built one wouldn't have much glue at all. The stability is in the dovetail joint (if it has a proper one, and not some other cost saving method). Any private luthier guitar or Martin and I'm sure at least Gibson acoustics are fine cut enough to still be a tight fit without glue. They just seal glue in a bit for extra assurance.

Don't believe me, go look into pythagoras who travelled into Egypt and the middle east to be educated and was later held up as a Messiah by euros
>>
Not to be a snob but I will literally never buy anything called "Harley Benton" no matter the value proposition
>>
>>127741214
All guitar makers originally came from carpenter related families. And many of them kept their techniques down the generations. Some private luthiers I see are from modern carpenter families and just easily went into making guitars as a hobby. There's a lot of private dudes like that still.
There's a lot of hand carving in the joint. I already said above that a properly carved joint can be so snug that you barely need glue. You can technically string up a guitar like this and it will still play right. It takes back and forth trial and error and hand sanding to get that sweet spot. You don't need hand carving on everything, but this is one area that gets a lot of attention with expensive guitar makers. I can't be sure about PRS since I don't pay attention to their guitars, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. He seems to be a pretty spergy detailed oriented dude. And I'm almost positive it's why the PRS SEs are much cheaper (besides the carved top the expensive ones have too). The reason why some set neck guitars are so cheap is the cost cutting processes here. They use mortoise and tenon or even fake bolt ons that look like set necks from the outside..and the way these Chinese work, probably splattered with glue and cranked out to meet their daily slave quota. Nobody is going the extra mile here.
>>
>>127741373

I refuse to believe that.
I was always wary of those pickup change and demonstration videos. I don't really hear much difference between pickups of the same type. A few weeks ago, I changed the pickup types on my guitar. I swapped a humbucker for P90s. I could hear the difference, because it's obviously a different type. But ever since replacing it, my other humbucker sounds so "different". I cannot explain it, it sounds "weak".

I'm more and more tempted to swap the humbucker out for another humbucker, even though I know that it won't sound much different at all. Why is this happening to me. Getting a soldering kit has awakened something in me, which made me drop even the most reasonable beliefs.

I would buy something called Thomann before I buy something called Harley Benton. I'd feel less ripped off. Some of those Harley Benton guitars do look great and have great specs on paper. But I'm afraid that the QC is shit and that essential stuff like neck-work (frets) will be bad and that's something I cannot fix.
It's weird that I have more faith in other companies, even though most of those guitars are built in the same places with the same technology.

he's not wrong. the selling point of the reissues is the long neck tenon and the saddle posts not having bushings which is objectively worse imo. gibson even went back to using plastic inlays because that's what was original. boomers don't care if they're getting a worse product as long as its original. same with martin not having truss rods in the vintage reissues

Ok? I didn't say it was the only pickup he used. He had a JB in his kramer. And yes I used AI because how else am I going to get a statistic like that? AI can scour archives and figure out which pickups appear more on writing credits than others, which would be nearly impossible to do by yourself unless you want to make an excel spreadsheet with 100,000 songs. Now, granted, I'm sure it's not taking into account the hundreds of different variants of gibson or fender pickups because they're not all the same exact pickup. But to try to deny that the JB isn't one of the most if not the most recorded pickup of all time is kind of ridiculous. It's on everything. Adam Jones made an entire career out of that pickup, as did many other prolific professional and studio guitarists. They're on everything from 80s pop music to jazz and heavy metal records and everything in between. They're basically just a slightly hotter paf style. So I guess you could argue that "paf style" is the most prolific, but that encompasses many brands and models.

Ok but those change every year and model. They're not consistently one pickup design made to exacting specifications. And Idk I kind of doubt that because single coil pickups aren't used in every genre of music like humbuckers are. You see a lot of guys playing jazz, funk or blues with a humbucker, but you don't see too many guys playing hard rock or metal with single coils.

Your EQ is just as effective in the loop once you get more effects. So don't get too used to in front if you plan on adding some. A lot of effects have some basic EQ themselves, so it's a good idea to have the final pedal in your chain do the defining EQ process.
