What’s the deal with cover bands?
They’re not the band… but they’re also not not the band.
It’s like musical cosplay
you’re dressed as Aerosmith, but your name is Aero-ish.
And people go crazy!
“Play Free Bird!”
You realize these guys aren’t allowed to play Free Bird… right?
They’re basically musical babysitters.
They tuck you in with the classics while the real band’s out making new songs you don’t want to hear.
And the names oh, the names!
“Almost Zeppelin,” “Not Quite Nirvana.”
At least be honest!
Call yourselves “The Discounts.”

It was 1 a.m. in the Burger King parking lot, neon sign buzzing like a dying firefly. Mountain had dragged out a little amp from the back of his rig, uke slung low on his shoulder. His eyes were red, face wet man was crying heavy, not a sniffle, but full-bodied sobs that shook his chest.
Gary Greaser was there too, perched on the hood of his old Chevy, leather jacket shining under the flickering light. He had a cigarette dangling, hands cupped around the flame like it was holy.
“Mountain, pal… you sure you’re good to play?” Gary asked, voice somewhere between concern and disbelief.
Mountain didn’t answer with words. He just strummed a shaky, off-kilter rendition of “Wonderwall.” The uke buzzed, strings jangling like rusted windchimes. Every chord cracked in half from the tears dripping onto the fretboard.
Gary lit another smoke, shaking his head. “You’re killin’ me, kiddo. Cryin’ over a uke in a Burger King lot… this is the saddest set I ever seen.”
But Mountain just kept going, voice breaking, half-singing half-sobbing:
“And after alllll, you’re my wonderwaaaall…”
A group of kids in lowered Civics rolled by, slowed down just long enough to honk and yell “Play Freebird!” Mountain lifted his uke like a weapon and shouted through his tears, “FREEBIRD’S FOR CLOWNS, BUCKO!” before collapsing back into his ballad.
Gary clapped, slow and sarcastic. “Encore, champ. You’re a regular Elvis in a puddle of saltwater.”
By the end, the Whopper wrappers scattered at his feet looked like little gravestones. The parking lot was empty except for Mountain, Gary, and the buzzing neon crown above them.
It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t tight. But it was a set.
And at 1 a.m. outside Burger King, it was legendary.

I started creating backing tracks for songs that I like. My collection is also up to 40ish songs now and it's impossible to memorize them all. I also keep a tab next to it, so I actually have to "review" a song before playing it.

>>127758792
I have written and recorded 10 songs in the past year. I don't remember how to play any of them anymore. That made me wonder how actual artists remember their stuff, but I guess they play it almost daily, so it's harder to forget.
I also keep tabs of everything I write inside my project files for that reason. There are some sketches and ideas in there where I didn't include tabs and now I don't remember how to play it anymore. Once I had to painfully transcribe my own solo because I didn't write it down and I don't think I transcribed it correctly (I'm still kind of a beginner).

i always wonder how awful these guitars will look with already "aged" colors in 20 years.
>>
>>127763675
My "classic white" has a hint of mint green to it in the right lighting. I dig it personally but the obsession with fake aging new guitars is retarded.

One of my Strats is very sentimental so probably that, but if it’s something I’ll actually fully enjoy playing until the end of forever then one of my Teles

Wow. I thought $1200 was steep for the original Vinteras.. Nitro is meme if it’s on modern guitars, there’s my hot take.
>>
>>127764118
The Jazzmaster looks the best, simple maple neck with plain maple headstock looks the best with fiesta red.

I've been using Minotaur straps for years; they're well made and affordable. I use a wider variant on my neckdive basses.

maple fingerboards need maple headstocks
rosewood or other dark fingerboards need painted headstocks
simple as
>>
>>127764227
i bought a vintera bass about 6 months ago and it couldn't even handle heavy gauge flatwounds. truss rod was maxed out and relief was still on the high side of just acceptable. they're shitplanks
>>
>>127764465
MIM = try before you buy, imo. I've tried a few shitplanks, but I also own 2 excellent MIM basses that easily match the American made ones quality wise (and the 'Murican Fenders are probably QC'd by Mexicans anyway lmao).
>>
>>127764413
I think rosewood looks better with unpainted headstock

i want to use C standard tuning. are there strings for that that will work with my nut. my ernie ball 9s feel a little too loose
>>
>>127764619
>>127764643
even if it was real rosewood it would look better to me unpainted.
a real fender would use rosewood, but for some reason they stopped doing block inlays on anything but maple (looks like shit)

>ernie ball 9s

Oof. 25.5" scale length I'm assuming?
>>
>>127764934
You will need at least 12s for that. Maybe less if you just want to play doom, stoner or sludge. Pretty sure you will have to file the nut for those though.
Personally i use 14s on a Fender scale for B standard.

Recently picked up bass. How do I practice scales?
>>
>>127765873
unfortunately not, though i think those inlays are a little plain or too big in the case of the solar. i really like the kumiki side markers, the yamaha tuning forks, or the martin snowflakes personally. if i had to choose
