Last year I took my bass for a check-up at the local luthier, which always served me fine. Unbeknownst to me, he sprayed picrel on the pots, and now they move so f'n easily, even if I blow air on them lmao. Of course I'm always moving them accidentaly while playing. Are there any solutions to this that are not replacing the pots?

How do you play a les paul sitting down? I've had no issues at all playing acoustic but if I play my new les paul sitting down it fucks up my back if I rest it on my left or right leg. it's a great guitar but the necks are sticky and glossy and 0 percent of players like that more than a satin finished neck
that's my only criticism of the Classic Vibes
you can fix it with sandpaper in 10 minutes though
other minor gripes: only 21 frets, 22 is better (bend full step on top fret for the high E)
poor QC on frets, poor job on nut slots (my experience with CV)
the CV love that was authentic and real sprang from the MIC ones (that had better pickups) but production is in indonesia now, the guitars are NOT as good as the "classic vibes" that earned the reputation
also, those original MIC classic vibes cost 300 dollars new, that was the whole thing... they were a great value
current CV's are not 'cheap'
>>

I need to track down a couple Noventa JMs to compare this one to. This thing feels so nice, specially the neck, bridge/trem, string tension and action (.010-.046 cheapo fender strings, I use power slinky’s on pretty much every other guitar but the cheap fender strings feel so right on this guitar). Curious if this is just a stellar example or if Noventa JMs in general feel and play better than traditional JMs. I’m mostly comparing it to all of the AVRI Jazzmasters I’ve played in the last year or so, prior to that I’ve played a mish mash of various Fender JMs but none of them have stood out the way this one does. Also makes me want to give that Noventa Strat a go.
>>
>>127909196
Yeah I haven't had really problems with that. I mainly play my yamaha flamenco guitar, or then epiphone lp custom or jackson rhoads from 2001. The last one has a floyd that keeps in tune quite well, even though it's a licensed one
>>
>>127909196
You'll never get good at ear tuning or any sort of perfect pitch autism without a janky guitar that makes you struggle.
>>
>>127909217
Maybe it’s the tuneomatic bridge? That’s not standard on traditional Jazzmasters
>>
>>127909256
Also saddles all in one direction as it would cut your strings after 3 seconds if you use the tremolo.

I've heard better musicians play on worse, but ideally you'd get them leveled and recrowned.

Technically, no. Truly unplayable would be flat and almost gone. You could still play that, but most would start looking for a refret.
>>

not the worst at all, find a spot on the neck not worn in and learn new technique. these can easily be recrowned once without a full refret

I can learn just about any rhythm of rock and pop song fairly quickly in one sitting. Metal sometimes has weird riffs and intervals that I don't spot easily. I've never been good at copying leads. >>127910637
loaded question because that obviously depends on the complexity. beginners maybe a few days to week and another few days of rehearsing. my father in law taught himself piano and has been playing for 34 years, he can learn and play a new song in a few minutes. i literally showed him some music from a genre he's never heard the other day and he was improvising and covering rhythm/harmony along with the song before it was half over

I’m pretty sure I met evh back in 2019. I was walking into a Walmart in Sarasota Florida and I saw this shorterish guy walking in with sort of a high top buzz cut and gray hair wearing an oversized v neck tee and jeans. And for some reason my brain did a double take. The second time I looked at him he grinned and gave me a head nod. The increased in quality significantly compared to the old Affinity series. I have a Sonic Mustang 6 string and Sonic P bass and both are very nice. You might need some basic, easy set up, and at worst to file a few sharp fret edges but nothing too glaring. Honestly they’re as good as the Standard line Fenders since they’re made in the same plant. The components are cheaper but as far as build quality the Sonics are on par with Classic Vibe and Paranormal Squiers. The Sonic P bass I got off Amazon showed up intonated and with action set nice and low.

$6k+ guitars are typically acoustics and they are typically session musicians or people in a professional band. the rest are dentist boomers getting their r9 les paul or authentic martin. if the pro musicians actually make it they'll try to get a vintage martin. i personally like quality acoustic guitars, on cheaper ones you don't get as much sustain or volume and the overtones in the resonant chamber can sound warbled. that being said you can get great acoustics for $3k

i typically gauge the market by the going rate of a used gibson les paul standard
currently you can get one for 12-1600 bucks, wheras 4 years ago youd be lucky to find one for under 2200
Another good metric is used toob amps, for instance the boogie mark V 90 is selling for 1k-1500 bucks, a near 50’percent cut since 2021

120 crate solid state is pretty fucking loud. I'm not gunna say it's pretty fucking good though.
Blue voodoos can be unlocked to do well. The old 60 BVs were great. The 120s need to be push pretty aggressive then they play like they're a better amp.

I remember when sterling were affordable. You could get import versions of Ernie ball popular models for like $300. Now they are $1000+

A guy in my high school music class had a sterling sub petrucci that was pretty nice

These “intro series” ones are even worse than squier bullets

damn. That looks better than low end squiers.

I can never tell, with < $300 guitars, if no one gives a fuck to finish the fret ends or set-up the guitars. It could boil down to the manufacturers just leaving the final up to the retailers.

"Remember on your worst days, you have a skill most people could never learn. The guitar. And that holds a certain responsibility to yourself, and more importantly, others. And most importantly, to punk rock. That responsibility, having to do with the ability to bring happiness and entertainment, or even more deep than those things. The ability to speak through an instrument in a way words can't. And practice is never wasted. And nobody can take that from you."- Gary Greaser speaking at a Music school in Gulfport Mississippi, summer 1984.
