so i finally got together with this guitarist that my bass player knows, trying to get a band together. i've been writing on guitar mostly in standard and drop D for a couple tracks.
this guy rocks up with a boss gt-1000 as his entire rig, aside from loopers he didn't use on the night. no problem there, still sounded solid. my main issue was his home-base was a 7 string in drop G. that's where he writes and is most comfortable.
we played some of my songs, some of his songs, but all my ones were now like 7 steps lower in tuning and any 3+ string chords just jumble together in a mess of muddy low end.
I'd prefer to have a band rather than not have a band but is it so much to ask to just have a guitar in standard tuning?
even the 7 string thing is fine with me, i have one collecting dust in the corner. but why bother down-tuning even further? the extra whole step down isn't really making anything sound better.
>>
>>127915177

It's important to grind through some sucky parts of being a band or practicing on your own. I don't think there's any saving value if the entire project is a steaming pile. You should believe in yourself, your bandmates, and the music in a broader sense.

Playing a couple songs that will probably turn out bad isn't a big deal.

I’ll give you that but it’s no enough to ruin the guitar for me, still love it in spite of the poo Ferro.

This is my favorite guitar now. It’s not the newly painted headstock, but because it was out of commission for over a month I’ve been playing it a lot to make up for lost time and have come to the conclusion that of my ~16 guitars, this one is handily in the top 3. It’s going to be this Noventa, the Player I HSS Strat, and the Traditional II FSR Jag in no particular order. There are nicer guitars, but I wouldn’t trade any of these three no matter how great the disparity. I’ve parted with perfect guitars before and I still wince over it. I had an early 00s MIM Tele that I was too young and stupid to into, I’d kill a puppy to have that guitar back. Metaphorically speaking.
