>>127938301There is no real equivalent, at least not 1:1, you could say something like جامد (jamid) which is solid/with a strong base.Or if you want the more literal translation, then that would be مؤسس (mu'assas) which is something that has a strong foundation.>>127938501Thanks a lot anon, hopefully I can give it another shot this weekend.Shit has been hard trying to practice more often after I found out I have De Quervain's in my right arm (a type of wrist RSI).It really bugs me when I finally get a part right, but then my wrist just starts crapping out.

>>127944161Need some help with mixing, always has been my main issue with making tracks, this one is supposed to be lo fi but good lo fi and it doesn't sound right to me, I recently bought a pair of cheap DJ headphones because my previous ones were dying but they sound like shit to me, very muffled is the only way I can describe them, heightened low ends and weak mids and highs, I can't afford the good studio headphones Any tips here on how to make this sound better? does it even sound any good? https://vocaroo.com/17iPSWZykNou
>>127946835bass kick and that low pad stepping on itself.it doesn't sound terrible but it's not great.(even) if your monitoring sucks you should learn to use your meters and reference other tracks for mixing insight.
>>127946835What software are you using anon? If you have the right tools you could do some processing on your sounds to get things to pop more. If your drum pattern uses stock samples on a loop with no other tweaks or modulation it's always going to sound a bit amateurish, unless you like that for aesthetic reasons I'd try playing with your drum sounds a bit. Everything sounds muffled it sounds like you over-EQ'd or reverb'd your master track, the percussion lacks the bite to cut through and kick sounds like it lost fidelity again probably from master EQ or reverb, you should inject bass and kicks in after these effects if you use them on your master. Composition wise it's pleasant enough. Getting a good pair of headphones will really help, doing what >>127946882 said is really hard unless you have some years experience and pretty much know already how a given genre track should be mixed from just looking at the spectrum.
i wish i could sit down with skrillex/noisia and ask/see about some extremely specific PRO MIX SECRETS.the more i attune to the print-everything-thing the more obvious a lot of the solutions become but a lot of it is so arduous i want to see how they approach it...
>>127947165>skrillex/noisia and ask/seeUpon glancing at this post, I thought I saw skee mask and was excited, but then I
>>127947207i love a lot of his tunes too and they sound great but i feel like more of what makes him stand out is just how fucking good the songs/arrangements are.if you listen to a lot of other stuff on illian tapes(?) there's very much a sound.it's clean but it's not like, mind boggling.
>>127947242>it's clean but it's not like, mind boggling.>just how fucking good the songs/arrangements areThis is true. I'll probably sit down and listen again this weekend; it's been awhile.
>>127946882>>127947022I'm using ableton and the stock effects and synths, not using any vsts, the kick has some gain to it with a low pass filter to make it punchier but to me it still gets lost in the mix. It does sound muffled, maybe I should just go deep into trying out everything to see what's better, mixing and trying to make it sound like how I want it to sound is what makes me take forever to finish stuff properlyThese are some tracks to kinda get the idea of the sound I wanthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2AUEGUQd8ghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3dhhPB_7rUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTxfcINRwXUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac-R2-4WRyMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aN1bbn_no28
>>127947670Keep twiddling knobs anon, experiment. You'll figure it out there is no "one way" to do it :)
>>127946835Save up for a pair of Sony MDR-7506s.DJ headphones are really awful for any kind of music listening or production, as you've said. I've had my good headphones break and had to resort to old "good" DJ headphones and it completely changed how I heard music in a bad wayI don't think it really sounds bad other than the repetitive samples like the clap and hi hat, and missing all the high end. However, you can't accurately monitor the treble so I wouldn't add more for no reason. It sounds more like an 80s or 90s lofi song in a good way, nothing is really stepping out bad frequency wise to me. If you just had a tiny bit more mid and high end, the closest thing spectrum-wise that it sounds like to me is something like Aphex SAW
>>127947798Thanks for the words, what tips or advice would you give me for the drum samples, how could I change it up to not make it so obviously repetitive, should I add some post processing or different samples to the patterns to make it more dynamic?
>>127947670>the kick has some gain to it with a low pass filter to make it punchier but to me it still gets lost in the mix.you could try sidechaining a compressor between your bass patch and kick if you havent already, making the bass patch duck down when the kick hits, or if you're still struggling you can automate the track volume on the bass patch to duck down when the kick hits. these are surefire ways to make you kick stand out more.you can also eq the lowest frequencies of the other instruments out to give the bass and kick more headroom
>>127945193shot?
>>127948508
>>127947670>the kick has some gain to it with a low pass filter to make it punchier but to me it still gets lost in the mix.The kick doesn't get lost in the mix, if anything it's too loudI wouldn't worry about sidechain compressor like someone else mentioned. That's a completely different and unnecessary sound design choice for this case. Most importantly is getting better headphones to listen through.>>127948289You can try adjusting the velocity/volume of hits to give it a more human feel, slight nudging of the timing. There's also a concept called "round robin" where you can get multiple different samples of something and cycle through them so it's not one sample each time. There's other automation you could do like slight volume adjustments, panning, evolving effects like slight phaser/flanger/chorus, small parameter modulation on /reverb/delay. (Avoid slapping an autopan on things, it's very cliche by this point). The mind is the limit, analyze what the songs you like seem to do.
What is the one drum machine that will fix me? I just want to make 80s Pop with a slight modern touch (Tears For Fears/New Order with a slightly digital and more abstract feel).Current hardware:MPC OneArturia MinifreakKorg Minilogue XDBunch of random guitars

>The famous quote is "Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four hours sharpening the axe". While widely attributed to Abraham Lincoln, historical research suggests it's an old logging aphorism, not a direct quote from him. The quote emphasizes the importance of preparation, planning, and having the right tools to maximize efficiency, rather than working hard with inadequate means.you people are delusional. you're woefully underprepared and lack even the most basic intuition to start learning things on a deeper level than what any peasant could do.
anons believe that the beatles could start from scratch with a focusrite scarlett interface and a couple of microphones and become successful with sheer talent and hard work. even though the beatles are famously pioneers in recording technology.
>>127949522definitely didn't watch. I like this cunts stuff, but I just can't stand those videos.>smacks lips>'with <plugin name>, you can do this...'>stares directly at you>paragraphs of schizo babble scroll across the top of the video
>>127949534cool bro, i'm sure you'll start writing your very first song any day now, or perhaps in another year or two. good luck (not that you'll need it after watching another thousand hours of youtube! and telling anons how delusional they are ;) )
>>127949550i use his plugins extensively and get extremely autistic about themnever watched any of these videos. i don't need to. i can use is plugins better than him
>>127949552you're a delusional freak regardless of what i'm doing. you're utterly obsessed with the idea of me being inferior to me, not that you have genuine talent that stands on its own without comparing yourself to retards.
>>127949564I've been a professional musician for years you little shit.Have fun puffing out your chest stomping on sandcastles in the thread for beginners- i'm sure it's a highlight in your pathetic life if you're resorting to stooping this low.
>>127949522Are you confusing thin white duke with marilyn manson?
>>127949577anyone could be a "professional musician", the boomer talks about writing huge hits and getting nominated for grammys etc
>>127949562oh yeah? well guess what? I'm gonna find you and subject you to watching all of his release videos in order, clockwork orange style.
>>127949581no, i was poking fun at how transparent and lazy Manson became over time with his referencing Bowie.... and after decades you'd think an artist would move on, expand or something: nope.
>>127949562it's not just his videos, his plugins are retarded. he's hacking together code going off of random experimentation and vibes while having no deep understanding of music or engineering.
>>127949593Is the boomer in the thread with us right now?
>>127949774can we all agree to just try to ignore him to slow the death of /prod/?the other general is already dead come on
these anons think NE5534 is a valid substitute for an LM308 in a guitar pedal which entire point is to add distortion to the sound of the guitar. they don't understand what made great musicians like kurt cobain and others choose the guitar pedal. they don't recognize the role that the guitar pedal had in the success for these musicians. these are the same anons who will play god with unproven plugins like by airwindows etc, not really understanding what they're doing, having the bluepilled belief that music production is mostly about the songwriting and the performance and that you can cut corners severely with the technical side of things as long as the "music" is good.
When nobody replies to my wips it's because they're already flawless and incapable of being critiqued, right? Right guys?
>>127949803ime yesthe vocaroos i post invariably get far more replies when the track is okay but has obvious flaws, so anons feel comfortable replying to point out those flaws.however, most of my tracks are amazing and far above the average /prod/ users ability to critique, so i usually get no or very few responses since the vocaroo is too intimidating for them.
>>127949774the boomer frequently samefags and lies so you might as well be him. the boomer and the lowercase anon >>127949786 are among the few who post 24/7 in these threads and also are among the few who are astronomically asshurt to a level of derangement, hence why you felt the need to post "Is the boomer in the thread with us right now?"
If you're not posting voca I'm not paying attention. Shout it to the void you quibbling fags
>>127950068Every voca ITT sucks ass though
>>127950091I wonder if that chair will do the thing wear it explodes the coil spring cylinder up into his anus
>>127950091the boomer made this pic and he has posted it with the same filename and the phrasing "do not engage" which is a phrasing he likes to use
in a recent /prod/ thread he first pretended to be an insane person who really wanted to know my advice, then pretended that he had to go to work (he's probably on welfare like he projects onto me) then later in the thread he announced "i am the boomer" so no matter of him denying to be the boomer or avoiding the question he's probably in here as he's in here basically 24/7
>>127950130Go back to /dmp/ you fucking faggot nobody wants you here
he's probably on welfare also because he gets incredibly asshurt about any hardware even pieces that cost like a few hundred bucks which is not a prohibitive cost for an employer first worlder
>>127949476>TCDyea thanks no. R2R or nothing.also, this plugin is pointless. the bulk of interesting synthesis does not happen at the stage of generating the raw waveform. on the surface this seems cool and new and like it'll give you access to new sounds, but that's actually not true.
>>127950145based and waveformpilled
>>127950145only exception of course being physical modeling synthesis but those are technically just elaborate macros of normal synths

Do you guys take the ramifications of using bouba vs kiki sounds into account when you make music? Is it only a thing in lyrics, or does it also translate to sound design/selection?For the uninitiated:https://youtu.be/1TDIAObsqcshttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouba/kiki_effect
>>127950270is this not a thing that people just naturally do even when they're not experienced enough to be conscious of it?i'd extend this pattern of thinking to genre tropes and overarching stylistic choices / themes as well.>i wanted *the whole* song to sound like it was in a cave"and so onsquare waves are bouba. saws are kiki, obviously."angular," "sharp," "clanging" are definitely descriptors that describe intentional choices for styles like post-punk (PIL metal box whaddup), post hard-core, industrial and such. obligatory SOPHIE mention.
I'm trying to figure out a proper solution for propping up my XLR mic. I have a Joby wavo boom arm that's worked well in the past (used both casually on PC and when recording), but I moved, and the desk I have now isn't compatible with the kind of clamp it has (pic related, the arm in question). The best I can do is clamp to the leg, but it doesn't give a proper angle at all. I thought about if I could potentially mount it to another stand, like a three-legged one, then use it like before, but I'm not sure. Any advice? I may have to go through the trouble of moving my old desk otherwise.

>>127949534>rather than working hard with inadequate meansLike binging YouTube and Reddit pretending to do research instead of trying anything, for instance? It's obvious that it's hard to get what you need when you have no idea of what you need (or when you think you know it but you're wrong because you don't hear the real telling you how wrong you are).

>>127948948The tracks I use as a reference have a very clear punchy kick and clear percussion which is what I want but to me it all gets muddy at some point and it sounds too messy, I don't know if my issue is maybe composition or sound design or mixingMy goal is lofi and all the tracks I use as reference all have a prominent low end mix but everything is clear enough to not be annoying or unlistenable, at least on headphones
>>127950994I can't help you with this but there's definitely more to punchy bass and kicks than just low end. It's still magic to me.
