One friend introduced me to Tristan und Isolde once, I found it really cool, I was never really into that kind of music before and idk what changed, but for some reason I've been listening to Wagner, Berlioz, Liszt and Verdi all year.
Are critics really into something when they say one is too show off or the other too superficial?
I'll listen to something, let's say, Les Preludes, oh nice, I'll google to see what it means, and most comments on reddit or quora will be about it actually feel shallow and pedantic with heavy Peter Griffin energy. Are they onto something or just saying whatever sounds cool?
For me, at least, I'll find something I like, read everything about it I can find, which usually leads me down to rabbit holes like the Rissorgimento, and go from there, yk? Like, yeah, I could boil it down to "I like the noise already and the story behind it made it way better"
