Reposting since the thread was already auto-saging:
I realize that I'm extremely, autistically hunched over my guitar when playing/practicing.
I try to force myself to sit up straight, but I slowly end up hunched again.
Any tips to counter this?
Playing standing, maybe?
Thanks to the anon who suggested using a classical guitar foot rest.

Stop trying to look at your entire fretboard when you play and just look at the side dots on the neck as if you’re standing. That’ll keep your posture straight. The problem is you’re trying to see every string and fret. Everyone hunches over when they do that

I mean I hunch over if I have to for some lead stuff but normally bro I don’t even look at my guitar at all when I play. But I’ve been playing for 30 years. I might glance down at my side dots when I’m moving more than 5 frets to make sure I don’t overshoot and then it’s back to looking at my computer screen or whatever. Kind of like how after awhile you never look at a keyboard when you type.

Shell pink charvel, unfortunately had the sell the guitar this week. But I decided to downgrade vehicles and just bought the new pro mod plus Snow White San dimas and a stadium xl. I was tired of not having gear I could gig with and haven’t been in a band for 15 years. So I bit the bullet and sold my 2016 Camry for 13k, bought about 6k in gear and I’m buying a 7000 dollar reliable older car instead. I just like older cars anyway. But yeah I won’t have the guitar for a week and I won’t have the stadium until possibly first week of November depending on when line 6 ships.
>>

Shitbox for life though. I drive a beater from 2004; fuck infotainment and touchscreens -- I loath the day that I'll need to buy a newer car.
>>
>>128039331
Not even about just about that. You get thousands of effects, the ability to capture and model your favorite amps and effects, the ability to control your backing tracks, click tracks, live mix, etc one single 8 pound device that you’ll never have to fuss with or change from venue to venue. You can still dial in one tone and use it as a stomp box if you want to. I think the agoura modeling is going to be so good that people won’t miss their tube amps anymore. At least for people that gig it’s a major game changer. If you’re a home or studio guitarist and you can crank your amps without disturbing anyone then for sure tube amps will be relevant for a long time.
>>
>>128038969
That’s a beautiful Strat. If I ever get one, it will be that one
>>
>>128039429
That Camry pissed me off anyway and I think it had some kind of transmission problem because it would occasionally click really hard and make a metal ping noise when I put it in reverse or gave it more than feather throttle from a stop. Could have also been a cv axle or something. But carvana wrote me a check without even looking at it so it’s their problem now. And I agree. The infotainment system fucking pissed me off because if I had my Bluetooth on every single time I got in the car it would auto play music or podcasts and there was no way to turn it off. So like 90% of the time I would just turn the Bluetooth off on the head unit. And older cars are so much more comfortable. I’m looking at a one owner 05 crown Victoria with 100,000 miles that was owned by a retired gentlemen who has all the service records and a spare set of snow tires for 4500.
>>
>>128039441
>click tracks
Hate em! I hate em!
>>
>>128039441
>You get thousands of effects
All you need is the effects you love.
Besides, going the traditional stompbox route is limitless. Multi-effects units are computers. They only have so much power to run multiple things at a time. With modeling and cab sims, that's already a huge chunk of cpu/dsp power. There's a limited amount of space for effects after that. Sometimes they're hardcoded to not allow to run too many things at once, but others give an option to stack a lot..and the only way to do it is degrade and throttle all of the other sounds. The amp or cab gets throttled a bit to make room for more effects. Older units to suck at this even more and eventually your amp/distortion sounds all tinny and shit, so most new ones limit you to prevent this.
With pedals, you're only limited by your electrical outlet power.
>>
>>128039463
always practice to a click
playing with a band and finding out your natural groove isn't as natural nor as groovy as you think is a pretty rude awakening, get ahead of the curve and learn to play with a click

Click tracks are amazing for live gigging because it reminds you when the transitions of the songs are and it allows you to load in backing tracks you wouldn’t be able to play without having to manually cue them. So let’s say I want to play unforgiven by Metallica I can load in James’ acoustic stems and then just play the rest of the song, or the keys from jump, or the interlude and keys for no more tears. I never played with a click and did just fine but there is some massive benefits to doing it, even old school guys like Metallica cue all their shit with clicks now.
>>

>>
>>128039475
That’s true but I don’t run a massive pedalboard even with analog so that doesn’t apply to me. What it does let me do though is set up setlists and not have to tap dance or fuss with dials during a set. I don’t have to drag heavy ass amps around. I don’t have to spend a half an hour doing sound checks. It’s a convenience thing mostly, but also they’re starting to sound incredible. And you get everything you need for 2200 dollars vs spending 10 grand on a tube amp and pedal board.
>>
>>128039104
Its suposed to be better for your brain to not look, because it frees up cpu sunce you are not processing it visually. But Im about where you are at I get so hunched over it.

>>
>>128039475
You'll only max out the DSP if you’re trying to play 20 pedal shoegaze. It's no problem running amp/drive/delay/reverb/chorus all at once, hell you can even run two amps and channel switch or blend them on the higher end ones. And the Native will be more powerful than them all.

Which ended up being a number one album and is widely regarded as being one of the best sounding albums of all time. He also played all the instruments except drums and vocals, produced and recorded everything himself. I will post vocaroos for sure. And yeah I’ve had tube amps. I had a peavy jsx back in the day, a 6505, and a mark 5 mesa. I’ll let you know. Supposedly the 212 cl is pretty impressive but it’s unknown how well it will model cabs and IR’s so if I do use it then it might have to be relegated to the built in cab ir’s. Which is fine I guess because it has 6 of the most popular options. And I only really plan to use it for band practice and small venues without a PA. But I’ll do several demos for you guys. I’ll try to hit every genre with different agoura models like probably the Marshall plexi, ac30, fender black face, orange, 5150, and bogner. Give you a little taste of everything. Maybe I’ll buy a shure sm57 between now and then and position it in the room for an idear.

Thanks for the info, and will look forward to those roos.
Yeah sometimes I wonder if it's PEBCAK (which I'm sure it really is, not much of a knob tweaker); but I guess it's reassuring to find other people find (QC in my case) modellers to be samey. IME though I find when doing 4CM/through front of tube amp that preamp?or DI? captures sounds marginally better than full amp models or the models in the unit. There's this weird low end sorta phasing out that I hear when the room dbSPLs get louder. Not sure if that's an issue with my amp/its fx loop or that models also have the power tubes modelling in them causing a weird interaction at those frequencies that I can't quite name.

>>128040706
It's thanks to youtubers becoming creators/influencers and using that to make a living. Not to mention companies trying to make it the next big thing as they are all financially incentivized to do so. Like a bunch of vultures swooping in or a snowball effect, the recent DI push probably came from some discovering Mk.gee's gear.

>>
>>128040833

Had an old zoom g2 that functioned as that, even had a ring mod and volume swell that the QC doesn't have. If only the power switch didn't get stuck and local electronic repairmen here don't give a shit.
I find myself with buyers remorse and am kinda in the same boat but worse - I rarely use effects and the only active block on my QC is the FXLoop and a volume block before it which doesn't even sound better with just my guitar's knob due to it having treble bleed. But it's great to have since it's an all in one portable solution and serves as my interface as well.

I think he was always like that, just that most people venerated him with this title of a refined jazzbo when in fact he was a street person. This is apparent as soon as you hear him talk or the fact that he preferred to be homeless towards the end of his life.

He seems to have the alcoholic gene, which is why his thought patterns in the video go from singing a song, shushing other people, then joking, and you get the picture. This triggers manic phases and creates a cycle of abuse.

I showed this video to some kid who idolized him and he was shook. Again, it’s hard to take the picture from his solo album to the sweaty and unstable person he tended to be.

Still, he influenced a ton of dudes. I prefer Percy Jones from Brand X for fretless work at this time but you can’t deny CONTINUUM as a sex song.
>>
>>128040786
Sexy. I love Carnatic music and how it translates to Arabic maqams, which seems to be the missing link for Eastern European and flamenco music. I think this is why classical guitar always sounds boring because it’s not using a feature of the instrument.

My trick to do this in acoustic is to tune a guitar to CGCGCC, with the top two being the drone strings. I tried using coconut oil for the rapid articulations (gamakas?), but the roundwound strings shred my fingers. My fretless acoustic works way better but sustain is an issue

Don't think there's a specific gene for alcoholism; it's more of a gene giving people predispositions to addictions. There was a study about smoker parents or somesuch, forgot which substance exactly; their kids didn't necessarily end up as smokers as well but became habitual users of other substances instead. A predilection for addiction, an appetite for destruction.

Anyway here's another fretless wonder

Had a shitter electric neck defretted, sustain was awful as well. Action was also shite due to the nut and a stuck truss rod had to junk it. Maybe it would be tolerable with a sustainiac.. Vigier has a fretless model but it's expensive, Bumblefoot is an ardent user.

I think that behavior stems from blackouts. I have bad booze behvaior and it can feed into negative emotions and resentments - especially when you feel that you’ve been ripped off.

As for genetics, who knows? I think it’s just that people desire emotional regulation. I drink primarily to lower my IQ; socializing with others isn’t about feeling comfortable, it’s more about dropping to a lower level/chakra. I mean, I’ve gone to a bar and said I was learning Bartok on piano and people looked at me like I had three heads. Two beers later, I’m watching sports and fake cheering to blend in. Being smart and talented is EXHAUSTING.

It also drives others mad, especially when they discover that you are always three steps ahead. Anyone who’s ever heard of ”why do you always have to be right?!” knows what I mean

>>128041394
He was in a band that sucked and only got popular because it was the hardest song on the original guitar hero. I saw them live with killswitch back in the early 2000s and they were annoying as fuck live. The rhythm guitarist was flamboyantly gay and Herman li kept picking his guitar up by the trem bar and dropping it on his knee like it was cool or something. He destroyed his original PRS prototype doing that shit. Now he shills on twitch for donations all day.

Now that I have some experience refinishing, I’m thinking about an offset partscaster. I’m thinking Jaguar body with a 25.5” scale neck, ideally a Jazzmaster neck, metal Jag style control plates, Dimarzio HB in the bridge, P90 in the middle, JM pickup in the neck. Olive drab matte finish with a maple fretboard. Essentially I want a 25.5” Jag with those three pickups, ability to split the HB and run in parallel with the P90 and JM pickup.

As a Jew, my loyalty lies with the state of Israel. Either way, it was a pleasure to meet the man. And Jesus be damned, I like em even more than my own signature guitars, which are much worse."

Hondo were 70s era Japslop that got imported as a cheaper alternative to Gibsons. They're fondly remembered now because at the time they were the only cheap method to get into the LP style without going full Gibson. Any that survived to modern day are usually scalped because japslop is still better than chibslop these days. Was considered the "lawsuit" era since a lot of companies like Tokai, Electra, and fuckloads other Sears type shit was pressed out in that era that were close enough.

Beats chibslop by a country mile, and can usually found for midrange prices these days.

>>128038981
Practice until you don"t have to look at the fretboard. Muscle memory will usually help with getting rid of that hunch because you know your gear well enough to know where you're at. On stage occasional glances are cool.

Or go full mathcore autist and wear that shit near your collarbone with a strap

Idfk what nutters lol autocorrect nu tubes are. The vox shits? Most 12ax7sare 12ax7s. 6l6s are 6l6s. These are good tubes and are several versions better from tubes of the 1920s. I don't think you'll hear a Shuguang 12ax7 have any difference than a Svetlana 12ax7. There are other excellent audio tubes.

They’ve been making amps since the 90s, more known for their tweed stuff

They’re either on this rack or I’ve got four hangers that are also full. My cheap acoustics and my bass are all either on floor stands or just leaning in corners

their long history of playing stringed instruments is precisely why the electric guitar resonates with them, same with the uk, same with america which until recently was basically just uk diaspora

i generally like troy grady even though his analytical approach tends to go too far out into the weeds sometimes but this is an extremely unfortunate cocksucking image of him with his cumtrap way too wide open and he can't seem to god damn close it

lol god no i would never give this bigheaded slav money. he's got incredible technique but it's obviously inflated his silly russian ego and he thinks he's better than gilbert, rick graham etc now. he doesn't say anything that you can't get for free elsewhere, there is no hidden knowledge to the development of guitar technique it's practice, patience, practice, taking notes, patience, practice and more practice. the more esoteric bullshit like "dbx" and "usx," "pick slanting," pick angle you can get from watching nerds like troy grady, which anton rips off wholesale in his expositional demonstrations when he tries to teach technique.

>>128049079
When you scream like that, you actually produce a close chord (minor seconds) as each vocal cord vibrates at differ rates. The sum frequency between them is the the result, so it’s like two/three notes at once

Oh I thought relative, as the tuning with B always sounds like ass. I prefer to play in whatever it settles in based on the humidity.

To be honest I don’t like a440 (or 432 for that matter). The banjo head is a bit honky around g which is only use for effect in a weird running, like deadman [gG(8vb)GDG]

Is it just me but is Goo goo dolls 'Iris' and Lennon's "Luck of the Irish" the same song?
>>
>>128049381
Free melodies are everywhere. Go for a walk and listen to(record) bird songs. Turn on a soap opera in another language and listen to an animated conversation and convert that to tones.
Chord progressions can be mutated/manipulated/pinched parts of other songs, sped up, slowed down, reversed, rearranged, etc., until you can come up with your own.
Noodling like a retard is fun and good.

Does anyone else remember that?
