They get a fresh set of strings every single night and have a tech that meticulously sets up and maintains their guitars. I'm sure every last inch of that guitar is polished and lubricated to keep the strings from binding anywhere. Also, not sure what band it was, but if he's a light picker and doesn't do a ton of vibrato that also helps. Are you sure he didn't fine tune it in between songs?

If this line 6 Powercab 212 cl doesn’t end up sounding good enough in the room with my helix stadium xl what else should I look into? I could do a Duncan power stage with a mesa cab since most my live tones are mesa based, or I could try an frfr type speaker. In all reality I only plan to use the powercab for band practice and the occasional gig where there isn’t a PA, unless I find a band that has their own PA. I’m on the fence cause I’ve heard mixed things so far, but nobody really has them yet. I won’t have my powercab for another week or two and I won’t have my stadium until probably first week of November but maybe a little sooner. It is confirmed my stadium will come in the first delivery from line 6 though. Also side note this is why I always buy from guitar center, the 45 day return policy and the ability to just pop into a store and get a refund instantly if the gear doesn’t do what I want it to. Idk why people buy from sweet water and places that make you ship shit back to them if it sucks or doesn’t work. I do make sure that all the gear I buy is either new in box or comes from their distribution center tho. If you just have them order it without specifying you want it from the DC they may just find an open box in a store and ship it out.

>>128050550
To change the tuning on the FR you need an alum key and your action may even drop slightly as you down tune. Once set up my FR basically never goes out of tune. Every strat I’ve had needs the trem decked or constant retuning.
>>128050468
If you like flat necks, big frets, and access to 24 frets they’re the mustard. I got the black one for £310. The downside is the neck pickup is further down to accommodate those extra threats.

>To change the tuning on the FR you need an alum key and your action may even drop slightly as you down tune. Once set up my FR basically never goes out of tune. Every strat I’ve had needs the trem decked or constant retuning.
Oh for sure, once it's set, I know the FR is better. I just don't like messing around with them. I don't mind the retuning on a Strat. I can get through a song. I like the simplicity of it and don't do hard core dives anyways. More surfy stuff for me.

>>128050538
That's one thing I always loved about EVH, his approach of just barely giving a fuck. People used to talk about how he "tuned a few cents off" which aided his sound, in reality he just couldn't be bothered to retune when going back and forth between drop d. He just bent notes to pitch kek
>>
>hit trem lock
>go to drop d and play, no issues
>take it back to standard, disengage lock no issues
if all jazzmasters had proper bridges and neck pocket out the gate, they'd be a far more beloved guitar
>>
>>128050996
Just get a Mesa oversized 212 and a rackmount power amp
>>
>>128051338
With the early guitar (Strat bridge), you can wiggle it in tune a bit. That's why he dived so much. It'd knock it back in tune somewhat. Especially with the right setup.

How many watts do you need on a tube amp for recording music?
>>
>>128051376
I respect Eddie but a single pickup guitar is way too sonically limiting for me. Aesthetics take a hit without a blade switch or 3 way toggle. And no tone knob?

>>
Are the Troy Stetina books worth the investment?
>>
>>128051654
Depends on how much headroom or breakup you want. Not much either way
>>
>>128051356
Yeah. I was thinking just the 2x12 mesa and a Duncan powerstage since I’m on a budget, and I can do both of those used for the same price I paid for the 212 powercab. I’m not sure how it would sound for cleans since I’m either going to use a jazz chorus or fender / vox depending on the songs. Distorted I’m not too worried about because I almost always use some form of mesa model for the stuff I cover. I like that the powercab cl can automatically cycle the IR’s based on the patch so in theory it could go from a fender twin reverb ir to a mesa or Marshall cab with greenbacks or whatever, which I think should keep things more consistent than a pure frfr or power amp into a cab. But we’ll see. I rarely play without headphones but obviously if I’m joining a band I’ll need to, unless we all practice with in ears.
>>
Some amps are very unforgiving, you have to fight for every note.
>>
>>128051595
yeah trying to figure those out can be terrible. i think the player or player II jags had an issue where the posts were simply done wrong and so certain setups were just impossible without routing.

>>128050538
If you put a tremel-no on it and set it to dive only you won’t have issues with dropping the low e or out of tune bends. You’d just need to loosen the locking nut bolt enough to drop it down. A simple hack that can make this easier is to install a thumb screw bolt in the low e nut locker that way you can do it tool less on the fly in between songs. You don’t need more than hand tight pressure to keep the strings locked.
>>
>>128051338
That’s partially true but it’s also true that Eddie tuned by ear and everyone would just tune to someone else’s guitar. And since he plays more double stops and triads than cowboy chords it’s only natural that his ear would want the pitch to be slightly lower on the b string to compensate. I do the same with my guitars, unless I’m playing something that’s has a ton of cowboy chords then I’ll tune it back up real quick. That’s one of the most annoying things about guitar desu.
>>
>>128051873

What kind of music do you want to record? Marshall's 20 W studio amps are often criticized for being too loud already for example. So if you don't need headroom for cleans you seriously don't need a lot. At some point the logarthitmic correlation of power and volume becomes a joke anyays.

Mainly rock stuff. Classic, hard, Japanese stuff. Maybe dabble with thrash metal a little. I do want nice cleans but nothing super crazy. I'd just like a good sounding tube amp that's somewhat versatile. Guess I could go for a combo instead if it's really worthwhile. Also something that has an fx loop and a foot switch option if it has multiple channels.

Necks are normally garbage. Better off getting a second hand guitar.
Look at some of the brands with poor resale value Glarry//Yamaha/Aria/Harley Benton.
If you’re an aspiring luthier or confident woodworker willing to try some fret work they’re a good option. If not you’ll spend more tooling up and finishing the guitar than if you spent £500 in second hand market getting something really nice.
>>
>>128052279
Was looking at that one before but I'd pass on it. Don't really want all those features like presets and whatnot, it's just got too much stuff for me. I want a simple amp.

>why don’t guitars have a built in tuner?
there's no point, clip on or pedal tuners are cheap, easy to use and accurate. integrating a tuner into the factory guitar just isnt a great idea
>people already have a tuner they like, are less likely to get something where it's built in
>if it breaks you'll need a replacement for the likely propietary tuner (good luck with that 20 years down the line)
>if it's a really fancy expensive one that's looks posh and lasts forever it'll drive the price of the instrument up, if it's a cheapy one it'll lower the perceived (and resale) value and may break sooner
the only case where I see it as reasonable is to include it in a compact travel guitar, especially if it's one that already has built in electric bits like a headphone amp

These are my favorite guitars currently, I’ve gotten a ton of new songs and riffs out of them, especially once I finished the paint job on the JM. So much so that I’m going to record something serious for the first time in a very long time. No expectations, just going to lay it down so I can finally get some use out of that 24 track Tascam. For fellow anons with more than a few guitars, what are you favoring at the moment?
>>
>>128049771
Most of my guitars hold tune for days of rigorous playing and even then need very minor adjustment. Shit, even my Squires hold tune about as well. I do play without a pick 95% of the time but I think a good setup up also plays a part and attention to detail when stringing them.

He's generally right that Lydian and Phrygian are not commonly used as tonalities. And Locrian is almost never used as it's own tonality. But aren't you stepping into Lydian a bit when you're on the IV chord in a progression? Like in the main riff from Ratt - Round and Round, the suspension they hit on the C chord is a #4 (#11), not a natural 4 (11), sure it comes from the parent key, but at that moment the harmony is the C note so the intervals are considered in relation to it as the root.

You probably can’t bend, use vibrato or have any dynamics to your picking, finger or otherwise. Playing dynamically and with feel will cause strings to stretch and lose their tuning, no matter what. This is basic physics. Even my Floyd rose guitars need to be fine tuned at least once every hour of playing. Basically, I’m saying you suck and have bad toan.
>>128051339
Do any of you offset retards actually play your guitars or know anything beyond beginner level? None of you ever post vocaroos. All you do is talk about your gay guitars with horrible pickups and dogshit hardware. If you do play, what the fuck do you play. If you want a cheap decent "normie" body guitar, just pick up an EART or firefly off of amazon. IIRC E-ARTs are all CNC'd, down to the fret edge and use a satin finish and roasted woods. Pickups are okay but double check you're actually getting alnico pickups.
E-ART's strat copy which is like 260 or 210$ on sale (same price as a shit parts kit) won elmo karjalainen's cheap guitar shootout last time he did one btw.

You stretch your strings so they hold tuning yes but stretching them during the normal course of playing will cause them to go flat. It doesn’t matter if they’re locked or you have the best setup in the world. Plug your shit into a precision chromatic tuner and go play the freebird solo once. Check your tuning and it will be one or two cents flat on the strings you bent the most, even with a locked Floyd. You cannot do dozens of 1-2 step bends and heavy vibrato without stretching and wearing the strings in a way that will cause them to lose tuning. Strings continue to stretch and wear until they either cannot be intonated anymore or they break.

If this thing looks like a Rube-((Goldberg)) machine. I’ll be happy.

I need ideas for Left Hand mods. I play to tune it to an open tuning so I can do hands free, but some ingenuity like a hurdygurdy modular piece could work. I used to use battery powered handfans with e strings ends on the for cool crescendos, so having a clip on attachment could be sick.

Don’t think of scales. Think in terms of arpeggios and key (this is a ii-V that resolves down to either Emin or major in a harmonic minorish)

F#min is F# A C# (E)
B7b9 is B D# F# A C

F# A B C C# D# E all notes
>F# Dorian
>F# blues/pentatonic

The main emphasis is the
C# -> C and E ->D#

Just slide a minor third/major 6th when the chords change if it’s a vamp, but this progression reeks of resolving that B7b9 to Eminor or Gmajor (like “Reminiscing”)
