Thank you, guy who explained the Fm - B7b9 as a ii V. It makes sense now and I was playing with different inversions and can appreciate it.
However, you're wrong about telling me not to think in scales -- I wasn't thinking in scales, and maybe that was the problem. Your ii V description IS based on scales, otherwise it wouldn't be a ii or a V.

having fiddled with this peavey for a bit I think the craziest thing is that my mark iib has every bit the same amount of gain, the peavey is definitely more modern sounding/hard edged for riffage but i prefer the smoothness of the mark iib for the lead stuff
really compliment each other exquisitely, both drive channels do things the other one does not, just crazy how a 40+ year old amp is just as gained out as this modern one is

The biggest surprise is the clean channel, i dunno how they did it but it sounds fucking amazing. It’s exactly like a deluxe reverb, im absolutely in love with the clean channel

i think if i did have to nitpick the peavey its that
>1)
its not easy to dial in the drive channel, ive found the sweet spot but it took alot of finagling to get it where i want it
probably why in demos it never sounds particularly appealing, you gotta fiddle with it and tailor the presence/resonance to the room
THAT sound is definitely in there but you have to take some time to find it and just a cursory twist of the knobs wont do it justice
>2)
the footswitch is peak chinesum trash and im certain it will break at some point and need replacement
>3)
at least with my morning glory, it does not play well with it. gets very squealy when its engaged even with the built in noise gate cranked. probably need to find a different drive to pair with it

overall id rate this amp 4/5 and absolutely would recommend it to anyone

There's an cult-like following of session guitarists and musicians for people who like to think they're in the know because they know who Larry Carlton is or that Toto played on many hits during the 80s.
They might be overrated but those old LA guys were good. Some of the Nashville guitarists of the current generation are very overrated and the music they play on is shit and they have a really shitty attitude. Social media has given some of these hacks the ego of the most coked out 70s or 80s rock stars.
>>
>>128063454

sure. i am not a professional nor do i pretend to be. I make music as a hobby. enjoy
i am also not a session musician, an instagram guitarist, or music school student.
im just fucking around at home.

I'd like to think if i was at their skill level i'd be producing something worthwhile. i find good songwriting to be the key to it all which most instagram guitarists and nashville musicians dont have, and your opinion on my song will not sway mine.

That's cool. It was breddy gud, I enjoyed the laid back groove. At least you've got something to say (meant both ways - an opinion and a song) and have something to back it up. Personally I think chops and technical virtuosity draws from a different but adjaecent well from songwriting even though they can be muddied together in the general perception of musical talent/genetics/gift channeled from divine inspiration.

>>128063538
That's true, you don't really need to be even a line cook to tell something was too salty or overcooked - to your taste (though general standards exist for some dishes). I just hate critics in general, specially professional critics like that cuckgau that keeps getting posted around in mu. People that know nothing of the craft yet have the gall to dictate their taste upon the masses (and even make shekels from it). I'd just give a different weight to their opinion if they can tell what's specifically wrong with the food and why it doesn't taste good, and that usually comes with the territory if they cook even if they're not professionals.
>>
You could not be into Steely Dan or any of that soft jazzy 70s sound, but to say they don't have good songs is off.. They had hits and have existed for decades. They were on top of that genre. Obviously a lot of people dig them. But if I were only in a hard rock bubble, I'd think they suck and anything like them suck. It's like when hip hop kids just live in their own world and think everyone else sucks. It's fucking annoying.
>>
>>128063737
the dumbest part about hip hop kids is they dont realize the beat makers and rappers are listening to funk, r&b and soul not just rap.
>>
>>128063741
Yeah. They've pretty much run the gamut of things to sample though. Like Gen X rappers grew up with older parents who had all those funk records and they knew what to sample. But no one listens to that anymore.

Yeah I hate that argument. “If you don’t like this prove you can do it better.” Well, I can’t build a car but I can tell you that a Hyundai is a piece of shit. There’s this one guy tom shreds on YouTube who thinks he’s the best Eddie Van Halen cover guitarist and he routinely botches transcriptions and techniques. Whenever I comment about it I get a bunch of ball huggers telling me I have to post my version or my opinion has no weight. I can play these songs right or I wouldn’t post my opinion, but I’m not going to post my version because I’ll just get a bunch of salty fanboys downvoting and talking shit. And it’s not like I’m even being rude, I will just point out like “hey it’s this chord or that’s supposed to be a swing rhythm not straight” to let him know. And the reason I do that is because he has a “shred like Eddie” shill course he sells and he’s teaching people the wrong way. And then he’ll do these complications of comments criticizing him before some of his vids, but conveniently he never caps my comments or replies to them because he knows I’m right.
>>
>>128063710
But also I’d argue that maybe you do need to have some degree of cooking skill to know how good food is, because I’ve been to so many 5 star rated google reviewed restaurants that were meh, and I’m an extremely competent home chef with chefs in my family. I think the general propensity of society is to be overly agreeable and positive, which accounts for some of it, but then you have the people that can’t boil water that have no business leaving reviews. So I guess it is a double edged sword when it comes to critiquing.

I lump these people into the category of “Culver’s is the best fast food burger” types. Like no it’s not, first of all I live in Wisconsin and have been going to Culver’s for 25 years. I’ve been to all the other highly rated fast food burger places, and I can tell you for a fact that in n out has the better burger. Culver’s is fine, it’s nothing special. It’s high quality and well staffed. Most actual chefs agree that in n out is the best fast food burger in terms of quality, taste, originality and consistency. It’s the same people that rave about 5 guys when it’s literally meh. I think people just like to agree with each other so they can jerk their superiority complex off and feel like they know something I don’t.

lol well yeah, even non mechanics and just regular drivers will congregate opinions on certain brands, models, year variations on which vehicles are good. And some hardcore fans will say that the only EVH records worth their salt would be the ones with DLR and nothing else after. Funny enough I'm on the other side of that YT comment rabbithole when watching vids of my guitar hero, most on the top comments would be nut hugging him and calling him to be the best thing since sliced bread. There would be the vehement critics of course, "he sucks, can't write for shit, nothing new been done before better etc etc". I'd usually click on those accounts, to see what they got. 80% got nothing on, 20% have guitar related playlist that to no surprise smells of someone of an older generation, a small minority who post their own playing are awful, and a very small minority maybe less than 10 I've counted so far can really play well. But as they say, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

Start with the thinnest strings. Do 2-string barres, then 3, and so forth til you reach 6. Don’t be afraid to use your thumb for chords like Fmajor, and think of your first finger as a capo.

Similarly, start at the 12th fret and work your way down to the first.

The main issue with barres is pointer finger strength. Then, you can figure out how to barre with the others. Choose different shapes like the E9 funk chord (barre third finger only), or choose a meaty beast like a full Gsus4 chord.

Pinky barres are useful too. And you should get used to having a barre and using the other fingers to move independently. If you play jazz, this bass motion is essential.
>>
>>128064193
The main purpose for this triangle guitar is to play the Tetris theme. Still figuring the weird tuning it has EAE is weird with the unisons

Nah it would be through reverb. It's actually around $2000. I think at $2000 it's worth the gamble. It's a high end classical guitar, but yeah like you said at that price I can get a perfect Sakurai or Kohno guitar although those are more factory instruments.

Thumb on the low G, which frees your first finger for the first barre.

That's a dicey chord, imho. Unless there's a reason to play all those unisons (like a moving figure down the F5, for example), you'll get some dissonance because of the string size difference.

The thumb is underrated. Practice with the chords in this tune and you'll see the wonder and utility that the thumb opens up:

So I’ve got the tuna lid on it for a snare, the mbira needs to be shaved down to drop the weight, but now it’s time to add sympathetic strings.

I’m thinking back by the bridge is a good location because I can play the bass with my right hand fingers and can brush the strings, and it won’t get in the way. 3D printing mute bars like an autoharp might be good to tune it.

A decade back in my neck of the woods, seeing an orange tiny terror + pedals was pretty common with bands doing originals in small bar gigs. It was a portable solution and they'd just use the combo on the venue as a speaker or some loadbox on their board to send it FOH.
Not much experience in cabs but I can recommend one with a celestion v30 in it, there's a reason it's commonplace like the shure sm57. Lots of variations in cabs, the same cab can sound quite different in the same room if you have a closed back one with a removable back port.

Imagine being this much of a salty boomer, it helps people learn songs unlike guitar hero, get over it.

Do both or become insufferable as a musician.
>>
>>128069092
nearly every player we celebrate was a specialist in some way. learning literally every technique under the sun is great if you want to become a session musician, but it doesn't mean you'll be able to create good music

Go argue pointless semantics on reddit.

>acquaintance of the most recorded player you're talking about
>constantly see his meta stories from the studio
You have no idea what you're talking about. There are insanely good players here
>>
oops, struck a nerve

What's the best way to learn both?
>>
>>128067765
I've been eyeing one for a possible heavy metal project in my future. What don't you like about it?
>>
>>128069375
do you even want to learn both? do you feel motivated to play lead or do you just feel like you have to?
>>
>>128069398
I'm more interested in rhythm because I like to sing but I do want to create my own music, I feel like learning lead could help with that.
>>
>>128069466
look up these songs and see how melodic ideas are incorporated into the rhythm playing. you can do a lot more with rhythm playing than the average /gg/ bedroom player would have you believe
Wildwood Flower - Maybelle Carter
Church Street Blues - Tony Rice
Man of Constant Sorrow - Dan Tyminski
Couldn't Stand the Weather - Stevie Ray Vaughan (the song is good enough to stand on its own without the breaks)

better to bait and argue about nothing than to actually do anything amirite
>>
>>128069578
i don't argue with people that clearly have no idea what they're talking about. there have been literally billions of records of sold with great music created by people that weren't technically proficient at guitar. hop off the internet for a while young man and get humbled with some life experience

keep pilpulling someone to argue with you

Some please disagree with me so I can show you what an expert I actually am!

>"Well... I'm not even going to lie. I was getting a lot of flack from the homosexual players in California who wanted a gentler, more feminine vibrato system." Leo rolls his eyes and gives a little smirk. "I thought, you know what... I'm gonna give the fags what they think they want, so they can see how bad a girl guitar actually plays, looks and sounds. That's where the Jaguar and Jazzmaster came from... a joke guitar for gay dudes who didn't like Teles and Strats. And of course... they actually liked it. But the truth is, they are a very small minority. So although the design does appeal to some, I can't see it ever becoming popular... unless there's some kind of cultural shift in the future, like a generation of men who are stunted, like if the Government puts stuff in the water or brainwashes boys in public school to make being gay or a crossdresser normal."

some might doubt the validity of this quote but he did make the precision bass and you can't argue with its overwhelming success. man knew his demographics

we respect and adore her here

Funny how his first electric guitar and electric bass (Tele and P Bass) are among the most masculine heterosexual electric guitars and basses out there and his models get progressively more and more homosexual.

Back in my day we photo copied Hall Leonard and made friends and hung out with better musicians purely out of necessity.
