guitartard here, what exactly are the tonal differences between a j-bass and a p-bass besides the j having an extra rhythm pickup? Does the split coil on the p-bass cause it to be humbucking?
>>
>>128123695
>humbucking
yeah
j-basses have that lower bridge pup though, for even brighter sounds. but you can get that on most modern p-basses which are j-p basses really.

She gets told what to play by the band but she is an honest to goodness great singer, got discovered in canada at a competition iirc.
The first band she played with for the first album, the matrix, were a bunch of fucking nigh savants and they do a lot of background music production stuff for pop acts with the like 4-5 danish guys that run the entire pop world irt songwriting now.
>>
>>128123695
the p bass is more or less an exclusive rock bass that is really good at what it does but doesn't do much else, jazz bass is basically the equivalent of a strat, it excels at certain genres and is also really versatile
>>
>>128123578
do you think girls use telecaster headstocks for masturbation?
>>
>>128123695
yeah the p bass is hum cancelling. p bass is just a great all rounder that sits well in any mix without much eq. I find the limitation of a single pickup to be very good for promoting dynamics and exploring expression more in the instrument itself personally, but if you want a good funk tone I think you absolutely must have a bridge pickup. funk bass really needs those low mids
>>
>>128123639
jokes on you, i do all of those + learn guitar and bass and keyboard
>>
>>128123995
that’s not true. p bass has been used in everything to great effect including soul, Motown, blues, metal, rock, jazz, reggae, bluegrass, country… it’s really done it all, they even slap well. a good amp can make a p bass work in anything but yes a jazz bass is more versatile even if the neck pickup sounds bland
>>
the pj bass is the ultimate bass cause you get a bridge pickup but not the gay and ugly, tranny weak neck shape of a jazz bass

>>
>>128124163
not really most guys playing these just play pop, slappy funk or reggae, the bongo series is the one actually for metal
>>
>>128124163
these were actually designed for country believe it or not. they also sound good in every genre cause they have a pretty versatile preamp. I don’t know of anyone that actually uses the neck pickup on these so save the money and get a single pickup model. my favorite bass tone behind the sg bass personally, but these basses weigh like 12 pounds
>>
I regret buying my Custom Shop Tele. It has ruined all other electrics for me. It’s been two months with it and I still can’t put it down. I’ve owned a few Teles over the years and have played many dozens of them and this thing just has something no other Telecaster I’ve ever played has. I’ve never really been a believer in the whole Custom Shop thing unless you’re specifically wanting a very certain thing built with very certain specs but whatever they did building this I swear they imbued a little magic in it. I’m considering selling some other guitars just because I don’t really see myself doing more than just fiddling around on them when I could be actually playing this thing instead
>>

that doesn’t sound like regret. people that think you should own multiple guitars just don’t have a good guitar. you have your guitar and a cheap backup in case that one is the shop

Nah it’s not really regret, I love this thing. I just can’t see myself reaching for any other single coil guitar other than if I specifically want something with a vibrato or out of phase or whatever, something a Tele can’t do

I needed a delay but have been waiting for the BM-14m to release and it keeps getting pushed back, so I buckled and bought a Flight Delay. I have not been impressed with other JHS pedals I’ve tried like the Bonsai or Packrat, but the Flight Delay is pretty great. The reverse setting is so good I’ll be using it instead of the reverse reverb on my R7-X2. It perfectly fits a few of my songs using that type of effect. Going to need a bigger pedal board… first I considered making one Paul Gilbert style, on the cheap. Then I started looking at high end ones, and iso power supplies but said fuck that and I’m just going to get a generic 45” x 16” one off amazon. The one in picrel is a cheapo amazon board and it’s treated me very well, it’s just too small for what I currently use. Maybe I’ll construct a master board and combine this and the new, bigger board if I run out of space on it. I do need to get a better system for power sooner than later but I’m a bit overwhelmed at the options and hesitant to drop hundreds of dollars and experience some of the noise issues I’ve seen with isolated power supplies.

oof. I can't even figure out how to cut that. It's almost like it was routed on an axle.

How tight are most set neck pockets? The kits are loose af. It took some finesse and shims to make those cooperate.
>>
>>128125269
Is the neck pickup actually that overwound or is it just for show?
>>
>>128125232
Why would you play anything besides a P-Bass.
>>
>>128124803
Is that a 12W Crush on the left? I have one and love it, but not much of a guitar player.
>>
Do you FACGCE?
>>
>>128125274
neck pockets are typically wedge shaped and the excess is taken up with shims or glue so they get better fitment the more you seat them in. that joint doesn’t do that and was probably routed on a 5 axis CNC but still seems like an expensive process. It looks like it provides good resistance against string tension but I can imagine tons of problems with fitment even a year or two down the road. having just two screws in a linear arrangement seems like a terrible idea.
>>128125274
it’s a sidewinder pickup but they’re not dramatically hot. I think the dimarzio replacement is like twice the output. some people like the neck pickup solo with the tone off and it moves a fucking metric shitload of air and will shake an arena but harmonically there’s not a lot going on. here’s an example or great tone imo it’s a marshal super lead bass amp sim with fuzz and 70/30 bridge neck split roughly. The OG circuits had the baritone like switches that basically added a really peaky fuzz and that’s what people liked about their tone

find a path that calls to you and jump right in (bluegrass, metal, fingerstyle, classical etc). find a good course if possible, otherwise jump straight into trying to learn songs from someone else who has already figured it out. Learn to hear scales by practicing them and listening to music, identify the common chord progressions in the songs you like, try to learn the melody by ear. Keep repeating

I yield to everyone who ever recommended buying an amp with a good gain sound out of the box.
Pedal platform amps are a meme and I wasted thousands of dollars and thousands of hours tinker trannying my signal chain for the perfect gain stack when I could have just bought a Marshall Plexi or a JCM800 and been done with it.
It's all I end up doing anymore when I sit down to practice, tinker with my sound.

Doppler Effect

When the waves pass our ears, a sound is detected. The distance between any two waves is called the wavelength and the time interval between waves passing is called the frequency . The wavelength and the frequency are related by the speed of sound; high frequency implies short wavelength and low frequency implies a long wavelength. The brain associates a certain musical pitch with each frequency; the higher the frequency, the higher the pitch. Similarly, shorter wavelengths produce higher pitches. The speed of transmission of the sound remains a constant regardless of the frequency or the wavelength. The speed of sound only depends on the state of the air (or gas) not on the characteristics of the generating source.

Because the speed of sound depends only on the state of the gas, some interesting physical phenomena occur when a sound source moves through a uniform gas. You can study some of these phenomena by using the interactive sound wave simulator. As the source moves it continues to generate sound waves which move at the speed of sound. Since the source is moving slower than the speed of sound, the waves move out away from the source. Upstream (in the direction of the motion), the waves bunch up and the wavelength decreases. Downstream, the waves spread out and the wavelength increases. The sound that our ear detects will change in pitch as the object passes. This change in pitch is called a doppler effect. There are equations that describe the doppler effect. As the moving source approaches our ear, the wavelength is shorter, the frequency is higher and we hear a higher pitch. If we call the approaching frequency fa, the speed of sound a, the velocity of the approaching souce u, and the frequency of the sound at the source f, then

fa = [f * a] / [a - u]

As the moving source leaves us, the wavelength is longer, the frequency is lower and the pitch is lower. Again. if the leaving frequency is called fl, then

fl = [f * a] / [a + u]

I have been so busy fixing my new car and door dashing to get the money to do the strut links and sensor that I haven’t been able to play my new guitar or bf6 barely at all. Hopefully by next week I can slow down a bit and focus on building a set list for a cover band. I’m thinking 90s/2000s alt / butt / hard rock. Toughest part is going to be finding a singer that has a good range for all the covers I want to do.

Maybe better to stick to pop / punk / alt.

I could probably make a setlist with 30 killer 90s and 2000s jams but I doubt anyone could sing half of them worth shit. And I don’t want to go up and play them at a dogshit level just to play.

It might be easier for me to find a female singer that isn’t annoying for the high ranges and just do the baritone range myself since I’ve got a good voice for that era in my range. Could work.

Looks like it has a floating bridge (unless it's pinned or glued). A bridge type that is not attached to the guitar body at all, only the pressure from the strings holds it in position. Be careful when changing strings, mark the bridge position with painter's tape or change strings only one by one to not change the bridge's position
