I'm forever stuck playing the bass it seems and for some reason I'm at the point where it's easier for me to sing and play bass than to sing and play guitar despite everyone saying guitar and singing is easier. I'm pretty sure that's a load of bullshit made up by guitarists to avoid playing bass but that's a topic for another day. Thinking about getting pic related. I have a Fender Jazz bass and I like it but I want something a little different and I like the sound and look of the rick. Any anons have experience with these? I'm trying to find one to play in person.

If you don't have an acoustic might be cool to get one. My favorite acoustic shape is the parlour shape. But if you want another electric it wouldn't be bad to try one with different pickups. Try some out and believe yourself when you like something. You know when you like a guitar.

Was at the farmers market earlier. Picking up some fresh produce for the donation meals I prepare every week for the local shelter, when this massive lad noticed I was having trouble getting to my car (I'm 82 years old). He said he knew I could get them to the car, but he would help anyway. As he helped me into the drivers seat he handed me a mix tape and said, "stay chill", while winking? I still don't know what it means. I haven't had a tape player since the 90's...

are there spiders in my double bass?

Quite possibly, yes — but don’t panic.

Double basses (and most string instruments) make excellent spider real estate:

The f-holes are perfect entryways.

The dark, still, slightly dusty interior feels safe to them.

The low vibrations from practice or performance aren’t enough to scare them off permanently.

If your bass has been sitting unused for a while, there’s a decent chance a few small house spiders have moved in. They’re harmless and will keep the occasional moth or gnat in check.

If you want to check or evict them:

Shine a flashlight through the f-holes and look for web strands.

Tap or gently bow a string — vibrations often make spiders retreat or run out.

If you’re brave: use a can of compressed air (from a safe distance) to blow through the f-holes.

Avoid insect sprays — they can damage the wood or varnish.

Would you like me to tell you how to safely “de-spider” it without risking the instrument’s soundpost or interior varnish?

I’m 100% happy with the guitar I just wish it had a pick guard but the socal models don’t come with JB/59 and I don’t want another set of distortions. I can’t return it the guitar center manager gave me his friends and family discount and that’ll get lost if I return. The color is fine I was just thinking of a way to personalize it. As far as it plays and sounds it’s perfect for me. and I love all white guitars.

I won’t be able to do the pick guard unless they can modify the pots to have longer stems on them. I don’t want to change my pots as they’re extremely high quality. Also the benefit of the extra wood from the back route and direct to body mounted pickups outweigh the look of a SoCal. If they can’t easily modify the guitar to put a pick guard on I’ll just do some kind of custom decal somewhere. Even two racing stripes up the center like the revstars would add some depth and personality.
>>
>>128115002
they make stick on pickguards for acoustic? Why can’t he just cut it
>>
>>128115006
Oh nvm you want the pickguard to run under the pots. Just make a smaller one?
>>
when i was a kid I read a Slayer article in some guitar magazine and I believe Kerry said he taped up the hardware, fretboard on a white guitar and just slashed red paint on it to make it look like blood splatter. that's what you should do
>>
>>128114012

>>128114421
white with golden edges or full gold like its furniture
>>
>>128115027
I suppose if they’re already custom fabricating the pick guard (they get blanks from charvel and are an authorized dealer) that they could just cut and bevel around the entire pots themselves. It’s not like I need a full grip to utilize them. The other thing I could do is have them add pickup covers, but I’d have to do a custom color that matches the scheme. I don’t think chrome or black would look good. I think gold would look the classiest, but a metallic silver pickguard would also look pretty sick and give it that grunge vibe.
>>
>>128114087
I’ve actually owned 2 of both and I can tell you you’ll be happy with either. The revstars are excellent, but so are the McCarty 594 se’s. The PRS will pop more on stage. It really depends if you’re playing mostly classic rock or indie / alternative or hard rock. For hard rock I’d go with the PRS as the pickups cut through the mix better. SE mccarty’s are 20% off right now at guitar center and they have some cool color schemes.

Tone should be fine I never take the pickup covers off if they’re installed. In fact, I think the JB and 59 could have a bit of the edge taken off. At full volume they want to break up on pure clean tones. But that may be just a pickup height adjustment as well or it may be my shitty plugins I’m using from neural. I’ll find out more when my stadium comes in. I think silver with gold covers would look great. If it clashes with the black tuners I could always replace those with gold as well cause I plan to put locking tuners on it anyway. Idk there are some options to explore. Charvel already makes a white with gold pickguard SoCal that looks pretty sick.

I like distortion on the guitar and I listen to a lot of Korean/Japanese indie rock. I'm not too sure if it's stupid to learn a language just to attempt to learn how to sing and play the guitar. I'm not interested in performing. I just want to sing for myself and maybe my dog.

My cable dragged on reverb know and maxed it out. So much for the magical non-overdrive overdrive sound. Will use more reverb in the future though.
>>
I guess today is setup day for all my guitars.
>>
>>128115671
What level humidity to you set your tone pots to? How to you adjust the humidity on them?
>>
>>128116452
Reverb is one of those things people overlook but really makes a huge difference in adding depth to your tone. That and the faintest analog or digital delay in the mix will make everything sound more open. Unless you’re intentionally trying to keep things tight I’d always use both at least a little.
>>
>>128116622
Yeah, I'm kinda beginner so for some reason I got the thought stuck on my head to not use too much reverb. Will def use it more in the future. Will try the delay too.
>>
>>128115589
Are they screened or laser printed?
>>
>>128116638
Just be careful not to over saturate your mix with effects. I use usually 25-30% mix on the reverb and 10-15% on the delay. All you want is for it to sound like you’re anywhere but a concrete box in terms of natural acoustics. Unless you’re going specifically for a saturated tone on purpose. By and large aside from those I only occasionally use a chorus pedal when I build my patches, sometimes a distortion pedal if it’s a low gain amp like a plexi or twin reverb.
>>
>>128116581
Idk but I’m sick of hearing guitartuber faggots obsess over vintage guitars and gear. I have a good ear and I’ve never heard them play anything that sounded so incredible I had to have one. Like yeah a 59 burst generally sounds slightly better than a new standard but it’s not anything I would pay an extra thousand dollars to have let alone 200,000.
>>
>>128116639
Idk I didn’t look at their website very carefully. They do sell a slim model which would be great for possibly fitting underneath the existing pots. I’ll have to call them later when they open. I’d probably just stick with a solid color like gold or bronze or something.

I' ve been playing for 6 months, I don't even know what you mean by percentages of a mix.

>>128116761
I think they make a lot of money by displaying those "unobtainable" items to people who can't afford them, or to people who bought them and require validation. Also because youtube forces you to upload regularly or lose all the viewers, they end up having to recycle the same content sooner or later. Once they start earning their living from videos, they become slaves to the algorithm
>>
>toan is in fingers
Dat why Dave Glimmer had da huge Pete Cornish peddlebored
>>
>>128116782
There’s a usually a mix knob that dials in how much of the effect you want in your total mix or tone. By 25-30% I mean at like 9 or 10 o clock on the dial. Sometimes it just has the percentage in some digital sims. It should be called “mix”
>>
>>128116818
Effects are not your tone. That’s your gear. Tone is what you produce with your hands from your gear. John bonham still sounds like himself no matter what drum set he’s playing or effects are used to alter it. You cannot recreate someone else’s tone without copying exactly how they play the instrument.
>>
>>128116818
Also Gilmour played acoustic all the time and still sounds like gilmour. Idk why people think they can use effects and amplifiers as cheat codes to sound like someone else. It only gets you a quarter of the way there. A jcm800 Marshall with metaltronix preamp and some boss pedals fed into a Les Paul with emg’s ain’t gonna make you sound like zakk Wylde. It’ll just make you sound like someone who spent a shitload on gear that doesn’t fit your style.

They did, it was part of a super budget LP line for Zakk Wylde before he got madge at Gibson and left in a huff. Iirc it was from the same year as the "gothic" series and priced similarly. They were kinda trash, like actual garbage electronics and junky leftover wood for the necks and body. That one specifically looks to be a Special model from the Wylde-series. It's hard to find the dark red ones but the white, orange, and hellbilly ones pop up here and there. Very cheap guitars, don't expect it to not require extensive setup and maybe even part replacement work if you find one

Ibanez is in that weird "japan only innovates" era atm. Pretty much their entire marketing gimmick now is selling you a top of the line, versatile, bells-and-whistles loaded forever guitar that puts its cutting-edge tech and craftsmanship above all else. For some reason they can't figure out how to innovate the S100 design with the ASX systems and instead of offering it as a Prestige-line special thing they just removed it from production to shill you another penishorn superstrat or weird shaped tele with Duncan pickups of varying quality.

He woke up, not knowing where he was, it was still dark but the flying birds were chirping, seeing the sun's rays from the higher vantage point. He didn't have much time. His potato sack robe catching on twigs. He took a small bottle containing a tincture of ginger, psilocybin mushrooms, and sinsemilla. He swallowed it. He had been fasting in the forest. For how long he didn't know. He suddenly remembered he had a gig at the brunch cafe in town. He found a stream, knowing it would lead to a road. He flipped an old Greek coin to decide which way. He came to a moss covered stone bridge and grabbed his stashed cherry red sg out of a submerged chest. Hours later he reached a county road. He waited, thumb up. An old pickup, rusted and sky blue, sputtered to a stop. "Know where a fella can get a ride round these parts, cowboy?" The good Samaritan gently came to a stop in front of the cafe. Neither of them spoke. He grabbed his sg, and the driver knowingly pulled away. The amp they set up for him was already turned on, with a chord plugged in. The drummer and synth player had been waiting, wondering if he'd show. His potato sack robe covered in twigs. He forgot about the mushroom tincture. He thought he could see the taste of the air. The small crowd starring through his soul. He had no choice. He plugged into the Fender Frontman 15g, and played his last imaginary guitar solo...

Idk they seem to sound a little more opened up and dynamic than newer ones but any old instrument wears in. Gibson custombuckers are 99% there. Even the new studios sound incredible. Also supposedly the ge pickup wire they stopped making in the mid 60s sounded better. That could be true because people like those early 60s Strats, but people have stashes of that wire they build boutique pickups with for under a grand. The only other thing that could make it sound better is that they cut all the old trees down a long time ago and the new ones aren’t as strong or dry. But other than that I don’t really believe they sound any better just a little different. Horse cock beato did a test with 3 60s Strats and a PRS and the SE fucked hard enough nobody would notice if you told them it was a vintage Strat on a recording.

last post about this capo, size is perfect it tucks away behind the nut with only a couple of turns and fits snugly even though the guitar has a volute. the latch and stop bar fit perfectly together, I had a lot of trouble out of those on my cheap Paige capo. I think what’s most impressive and makes it worth every penny is that the guitar doesn’t lose any power or volume when capo’d now, which it did previously. It sounds like playing on open strings in the first position. I have to play a lot of stuff out of A because of mandolins and violins so more than half the songs I have to play are capod.
>>
>>128120124
>Nah the new epiphones and gibsons are coming out solid. Also my charvel came in virtually perfect. Some guitars have shitty setups though namely the sterling by musicman. Fenders are hit or miss. Oh btw the guy sold me my Prius really cheap because of 3 things. An evap code, an o2 sensor code, and the key fob being bad. I forced the car to learn the key fob, works fine, put a new gas cap in evap code gone, tightened the negative battery terminal o2 sensor code gone. Car no longer has a check engine light. All it actually needs are sway bar links for the front cause it clicks a little. Just had it fully inspected. Brand new suspension, tires, battery, ev battery, wheel hubs, etc. he took it to 2 mechanics and a dealer that said nothing was wrong with the car but they couldn’t clear the codes. Dude thought he was selling me a lemon and the joke is on him now.

its still a prius though...

well unless you have microtonal frets playing anywhere on the neck will produce a note that isn’t perfectly in tune, but the clamp style capos are even worse for that. Some people don’t use capos and that’s fine but the yoke style are better in that regard but you do lose the ability to only capo some of the strings

Solvent gasses liquify the finish and it gets smudged when touched. Freak accident. Fine finished are fragile that’s true, but they are easier to repair than poly finishes. If your poly finish gets chipped or cracked you’d have to refinish the entire guitar to get it to look decent. Also finishes that soak into the wood always look better than poly because the light is refracting uniformly all the way from the surface into the grain of the wood which really brings out the figuring. You can stain under a poly finish but it always looks like you’re looking at a flat image behind a piece of glass, unlike a Gibson or Martin guitar where the wood appears to have depth. You can’t tell with solid color nitro finishes obviously and even the fender bursts are too dark but they also don’t use very pretty wood. Alder and ash really aren’t that figured. Maybe on a good flamed maple neck you could see it

bro you can play it with dirty hands you just have to be careful about solvents and shit like bug spray has propellants and solvents in it. Nitro is resistant to most petroleum solvents though. Also rubber is fucking gay and only belongs on cars. Bad for the environment, stinks, and dry rots and cracks

I think most players actually don't like how bad nitro wears, but nitro fans have big pockets

I always play with dirty sweaty hands so my maple neck looks more masculine.

i was actually wondering how this worked earlier today looking at my les paul which has a sort of 3d top versus a poly guitar i had which was completely flat

One of you fa/gg/s turned me on to these and the hype was indeed warranted. No more having to tune after placing the capo is a game changer.

videos don’t really do them justice but French polished shotgun stocks can look insane. grats on the Les Paul tho

That's why they're the best. the only capo i've found that doesn't make you immediately go out of tune

Even though Fender doesn't use pretty figured wood, I still like Nitro on them too..but it's a different effect, I guess. Maybe it's that everything ages together seamlessly..rather than poly will look like the great new guitar it was once and the absolute shit in other parts.

that’s the beauty of nitro, if you’re the only owner of the guitar they’ll all look different from eachother. roadworn guitars are sexy, fake relic guitars are gay
