You bar the lower notes of the high e and b with your index finger and lift off the string after you’ve played it so it mutes. Use your index to touch bottom of the g string after the bend to mute it. I can’t really explain it man you just have to into muting and bending. This is why you should learn fundamentals before trying to play fast. Learn some chuck berry and other boomer blues.

I just picked my guitar up and played it slow. I actually keep my finger barred on the b and e like I said but I reach up to catch the g with the tip of my index once I hit the full step bend and then bring the string back down with my index before I play the next note. I do it so fast and subconsciously that I’ve never thought about it.
>>
>>128136474
Catch and mute it and then let it come back down while muted. The note should end as soon you hit the the full bend. Unless you’re purposely letting it ring longer but I don’t think Kirk does that in this solo.

The other cool thing is that they make things for practically every major instrument and then some. Electric, acoustic, classical, bass, ukes, banjos, violin, cellos, stand up bass, sax reed, drum skins, etc.. You could stick with them as the one stop shop.

all coated strings are dogshit. daddarrios are ok, ernie balls are shit. martin strings are surprisingly very good for acoustic and daddario doesn’t make anything as good as the martin monels. for bass strings, labella is the best. I seriously wouldn’t even consider putting any other brand of string on my bass
>>
>>128137297
Not the nyxls but everything else for guitar and bass. I will admit there are better (read: cheape, or actually better and fifth bux from germany) brands for standard use, but I don't have any of those guitars. They usually complain about the feel of the wound strings.

Singles. I already got a couple of humbuckers so I'm planning on branching out. Always wanted a proper Tele, was considering a Schecter PT Special though that one is a bit too pricey, and CVs were on my radar for a while. I love the white 50s one but the thinline looks really cool too.

Then recently I got hooked on the LP special with p90s. It looks great, sounds amazing and it shot to the top of my list easily. I'm more than likely gonna get both eventually but I just can't decide which one I should go for first. I've never really played singles or p90s so I have no idea which ones would be more useful to get first as well.

Hard choice. I love both my Teles and Special. I don’t think you’ll go wrong with either. Since you’ve said you don’t have either single coils or P90s I’d lean toward the Tele, plus the CVs are really great and with a Tele there’s a lot less to fiddle with or need to tweak. I’d want both. A good upgrade for both would be saddles on the Tele and an intonated bridge on the Special but also both would be fine stock IMO

I was watching Pasquale Grasso play and I had to look up if he plays short scale guitars (he apparently doesn’t) because his hands look fuck-huge on the neck. I remember watching a live performance of Iron Maiden and thinking that Dave Murray made the strat look like a Fisher-Price toy, mainly because of his comfort and command of the instrument, I guess, and not so much because of size. I don’t feel inadequate about the size of my own hands, however.

Can't get better if you've been doing the same things as before. Jump headfirst to a cliff (musically), learn a song that is difficult for you. You'll improve your technique, ear and it will give you musical ideas that you wouldn't have tought of before. Then on to the next one. If you're at the point where learning songs are too easy try writing your own, that's a different beast.

No, I literally just wrote that 2 minutes before I recorded and posted it. and I meant to play open e 22 instead of 020 so an e5 on the first part after the octaves, it sounds better. I should turn it into a full song even though it’s not really a genre I would play or write for in an original band. Feels like it needs to be pop punk or something.
>>
Right now I need a fucking 12v battery for my Prius because it won’t charge over 11.9v even after driving for 10 hour straight without shutting it off. So yeah that’s why it’s throwing low voltage o2 sensor codes and sometimes running like shit if I shut it off too much and let it dip below 11.6v. 140 at Napa. I only have to make 135 dollars today door dashing and I can get one tomorrow lol. Then I can finish writing the song.

>>128139758
Really can't make a comment on songwriting per se, it would be out of my reach as I haven't even written songs myself (that's why I say it's a different beast, while I still struggle at learning songs). Sounds a bit pop punk lite so if that's the style and genre you want to head into, you could do like >>128139773
that anon did and cover the tracks and record all the parts, you'll get a glimpse on what makes those things sound more interesting compared to what you've written.
As for the hesitant part I get that as well, sometimes it's just a matter of warming up for me - some etudes, exercises and noodling first; and getting away from being too self conscious and navel gazing about my inadequacies before I hit the record button. That's a heavy psychological barrier that even virtuosos admit to hitting sometimes, that the best playing they have done is when they get out of their own way and not overthink things.
Some playing feedback is you can play in time better, bend into pitch better, work on vibrato. Also I have a feeling that you sound like that is that you don't know the fretboard well yet, getting stuck with phrases or licks that are pretty attached to the chord position. If you learn the fretboard better - all positions, vertical playing, horizontal playing you'd feel more confident and less hesitant in executing what you want in the moment because you know the road where you are at. That shit never ends beause even if you're confident in playing a boomer blues I IV V in a generic pentatonic way, the same chord progression will be danced upon very differently by someone proficient in jazz or bluesgrass.

Me? Well, my main guitar is an Epiphone Wildkat... but my favorite brand is Reverend. I use GHS Boomers. For amplification, I rely on my Crate Blue Voodoo. >getting stuck with phrases or licks that are pretty attached to the chord position
True. Any tip to get out of that extremely predictable zone? When I try to experiment it just sounds like a blind and deaf man doodling.
>If you learn the fretboard better - all positions, vertical playing, horizontal playing you'd feel more confident and less hesitant in executing what you want in the moment because you know the road where you are at
I know the different positions, and switching from one to another by using vertical and horizontal playing, but I find myself not using it and sticking with, at best, two positions.
And I like to play punk or punk rock. I learned a couple of serious songs over the years (some Sodom, some Carpathian Forest, etc.) but I don't enjoy playing that.

I mean, I suppose you know you literally only need to learn how the major scale works and its shapes, right? Seriously, you literally need ONLY that to understand chords, keys, all modes and the pentatonic. Jesus, this is so easy man! I can not believe how faggots here and there are stubborn enough to refuse to learn such basic theory. You are making a fool of yourself if you are being filtered by it.

Unironically just checked my battery at the gas station and it reread 9,9 volts I have no idea how the car is still running. It’s dead dead. But at least it jumps up to 14.5 with the hybrid battery on so as long as I keep the car on it shouldn’t die on me today. I’ve made 15 dollars so far lol.
>>
>>128140966
I know the major scale. I knew pentatonics before that. I know a lot of chord shapes. But I'm still not sure I've utilized it in all the ways you're saying. I'm still just winging it dude.
>>
>>128140969
probably shouldve got the new battery first huh

>>128141026
Uhh well I spent all my money on the car, insurance and registration. I am door dashing to afford to repair it. So yeah. If it breaks down I have roadside coverage and my mom will loan me the money to get the battery. I’m sure she’ll loan me what I’m missing tomorrow. But Napa closed yesterday at noon and they don’t open until tomorrow morning. Their price is half of what other places are charging. 140 dollars and it’s almost as high of cold cranking amps as the premium one, just with less of a warranty. I need to look into what Toyota would charge at the dealership on Monday because supposedly they have them for 180, but I don’t know what their install fee is, and they come with a 7 year warranty. If install is less than 50 I will buy one at the dealership. The good news is my charging system is fine so it’s ok to run the car and it just sits on the hybrid battery (which was replaced less than a year ago) when I park it. Basically like having the engine off. The owner of the car who sold it to me took it to 3 places including a dealer that couldn’t figure this out and thought it was just an oxygen sensor malfunction that needed an ecu flash to get rid of the code. But I figured it out because I did extensive troubleshooting over the last week and realized the batter was never charging over 11.9 volts which is sending low input voltage signals to the downstream o2 sensor that has to go all the way through from the trunk to the engine and back to the catalytic converter. So even though the battery tests “good” it doesn’t have a capacity high enough to make the car run as it should and the ev battery has to constantly charge it to maintain proper voltages while it’s on. Which causes ecu codes and lower gas mileage. Anyway battery is the best possible outcome because the sensor would have cost 350 with parts and labor /blog

>When I try to experiment it just sounds like a blind and deaf man doodling.
That's normal for us mortals. It takes time to learn the sound of a chord scale/mode/tonality, the mental aspect of having those sounds familiar and the physical aspect of just memorizing and muscle memory. There was a time dorian was very alien to me as I was used to the natural minor's minor 6th than dorian's major 6th.

There's many ways to visualize and learn the fretboard. You could go CAGED then the related pentatonic shapes within, vertically moving positions starting with each scale degree so that makes 7,
there's this guy's way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29c4v9CQuVA which used to be 6 but as he got older he consolidated it to 5, Paul Gilbert's moving octave "boxes" diagonally, Tom Quayle who relates to everything as intervals based on a root note anchor.. Allan Holdsworth's four notes per string.. that's just off the top of my scrub head I'm sure there's more. Check out Rick Graham https://youtu.be/EaNex_vaixo?t=5876
that's a workout there and enough material to chew on for months.
If you're sticking with at best two positions it might just be a function of the music (say lots of old blue's rock really reside on that common pentatonic box shape) or a lack of familiarity, or that the timbre and ease of playing is more suited to that area of the neck (there's 6 E4's on a 24th fret guitar and obviously only one E4 on the piano)
Even if you're not into shredding the mechanics of learning the fretboard alone helps unlock alot, like constructing chords, voicings, etc etc
To get better at guitar it's really a balance of finding enjoyment in what you play to keep playing and the tortuous struggle in learning new material that's out of your comfort zone technically and musically.

Kinda overwhelming, especially since there are so many systems and so many teachers for every system. But one has to start somewhere. I remember getting confused by the whole CAGED system years ago because honestly I just use powerchords and basic pentatonic. I'll look into this seriously.

The fluorescent lights of the Guitar Center buzzed, a harsh counterpoint to the low, anxious rumble in Kaelen's gut. He was a striking figure, even among the endless rows of polished wood and shiny chrome: a cascade of dark, shoulder-length hair framed a chiseled jaw and intense, sea-green eyes. The fitted t-shirt he wore stretched taut across a broad chest and powerful biceps, hinting at a life spent between the gym and the recording studio. But beneath the surface, he was battling a storm.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome was a cruel beast, a silent, unpredictable partner in his life. Today, it was screaming. He’d barely made it through the door, his focus entirely consumed by a spiraling anxiety about the nearest restroom. The air conditioning did nothing to cool the sweat beading on his forehead. Every few steps, a sharp, twisting pain shot through his abdomen, making him wince.
He was here for new strings, but the universe had other plans. In the acoustic room, a vintage Gibson J-200 hung on the wall, its sunburst finish glowing under a dedicated spotlight. Kaelen had always wanted to play one. The urge was a powerful, all-consuming thing, a need to channel the physical discomfort into something beautiful, something external.
"Hey, can I check this one out?" he asked a passing sales associate, his voice tight.
The associate, a young guy with an unimpressed look, eyed Kaelen's obvious distress. "Sure, man. Careful with it."
Kaelen took the guitar, cradling it like a lifeline. He found a small, empty corner near the amps section, away from the main traffic. The moment his fingers touched the fretboard, something shifted. The pain didn't vanish, but it was muted, a background hum as the music took over.
>>
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and let the first chord ring out.
It wasn't a showy, technical piece. It was slow, a bluesy, soulful melody that felt ancient and raw. He picked a delicate, intricate pattern, each note resonant and clear. The music flowed through him, an honest translation of the anxiety and pain he was feeling. He bent a note, holding it until it trembled with emotion, his whole body swaying slightly to the rhythm.
He was lost in the sound, pouring every ounce of his being into the wood and wire. The world narrowed to the vibration against his chest and the sound filling the room. He didn't notice the few scattered shoppers who had stopped what they were doing to listen. They were drawn by the sheer emotional honesty in his playing, a soulful blues that seemed to come from a much older, more experienced place. He played for five minutes, maybe ten, an impromptu, unplanned performance that felt necessary for survival.
When he finally brought the last chord to a soft, lingering fade, he opened his eyes. A small group of people was watching him, a few nodding in silent appreciation. The sales associate who had given him the guitar was standing nearby, a genuine smile on his face.
The abdominal pain, while still present, was no longer a debilitating scream. It was a manageable ache. Kaelen let out a long, shaky breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He had made it through. He had transformed his suffering into art.
He carefully re-tuned the guitar and handed it back to the associate. "Thanks, man," Kaelen said, a true, relieved smile touching his lips.
"Dude," the associate said, shaking his head slightly in admiration. "That was something else. You should play more often."
Kaelen just nodded, grabbed his new strings, and walked toward the register. He still needed to find the restroom, but the world felt a little brighter now. He’d faced the storm and, for a few minutes at least, he had played through it.

I got the impression that maybe Holdsworth used the 4 note per string thing as an exercise in fretboard visualization, chunking larger portions of the fretboard to memory, and preparing position shifts, but when it came to actually playing, he would generally use the 3nps thing.

Yeah both is definitely the goal eventually. I'm still on the fence on which to go for. Kinda leaning towards the LP cause it'll be much more comfortable to play while standing since the Tele doesn't have an arm contour or anything and from playing a Benton Tele, I'm really missing that. Also I keep getting pulled by the Schecter PT Special, I just love the look of that guitar, plus it has the contour. It's not THE Telecaster but it's close enough and with all the bonus features it's really worth getting. It's twice the CV's price though.
