SERIOUS QUESTION

Have all of the maximal ways to play the guitar been solved? I’m digging SWYBRD but beyond carnatic, flamenco, and Arabic styles, it seems like every technique can be accounted for.
>>
>>128284962
Yeah I know but it’ll take a while save up. I’ve spent too much on things this year already so selling unused stuff would just be a way to feel better about spending more. I don’t NEED another guitar
>>
>>128285029
I get what you mean. I've had an oversized 212 cab in my cart on the Atlastone website for weeks now. It's hard to justify while owning multiple other cabinets, but I DO want to run 2 separate 212 rigs simultaneously so I'm at a crossroads with it. There was a used emperor 212 semi locally but I dragged my feet and it sold. I don't like moving 412's around anymore but can't bring myself to sell any.
>>
Assuming same price which one would you pick?

Revstar RSS20 in black or vintage white
Or
Epiphone inspired by Gibson custom 1960 Les Paul standard in iced tea burst
Or
Epiphone inspired by Gibson custom shop 1960 Les Paul custom in alpine white with gold hardware

The epiphone has all USA hardware, electronics and 500 dollar hand wound USA custom shop custombuckers. It includes a hardshell case

The Revstar has a gig bag

I could eventually gut the epi pickups, pots, wiring etc and throw them in an LP standard, then either swap those pickups or put Duncans in the epi and use it for alt tunings.
>>
>>128285175
I have a hard time pulling the trigger on guitars that don't come with hardshell cases and I expect prices to reflect that. That's just me though.

It's fate. I'm destined to be the Sunburst Strat chad.

>>
If you were a homosexual man, what kind of guitar shape would you go for?
>>
>>128285175
The revstar, I've seen it a couple times IRL and I liked the looks, though the white custom epi is also nice
>>
>>128285361
The white epi is out. Didn’t realize they come with lp studio pickups. Also the price went up on the epi back to 1299, it was 1099 this morning. Depending on what the guy helping me says on price I’m likely getting the Revstar.

finally got my Bass VI
put some baritone strings on it and tuned it to B standard; only missing 5 notes from the high end compared to a regular guitar (and gain 5 on the low end)

Writing music is cathartic, playing it in front of people is a great feeling/release. I'm able to meet interesting people I would otherwise not come into contact with, I get to travel and make a little money while doing so. The comb filter is side chained to an expander triggered by the audible harmonics. Around 6.5k. barely can hear it. I lowered the pitch 2 octaves and put the expanded signal into my 1187. When playing it at full volume my bones start itching and my body starts jerking involuntarily. Childhood memories from someone else fill my brain unnaturally. I come to and I'm driving on a country road at night. I have no idea where I am. The punishing acoustic blasts rattle my skull. Everything goes dark again. I wake up in bed with a blanket I've never seen. Check my hard drive and every guitar file from the past week is corrupted. I feel something on my feet and look down. Two holes through my feet. Like lightning strike victims sometimes have. The blood is dried. I look in the bathroom mirror and I have a black eye and dirt under my nails. A patch of hair on my head is shaved off and I feel something under my skin. I keep seeing movement out of the corner of my eye. I look at my arm and it looks like there is an impression from a tourniquet. Everything else seems normal except the strand of hair I always place on the top of the doorknob is gone. I check the video surveillance and it goes to static for 3 seconds at 3am. My brain is completely silent. No tinnitus. Not even the background hum. I go to make a journal entry and see the entire notebook is filled with my handwriting. Talking about rotting flesh and fear. I didn't write that. My body might have but I didn't. I felt a presence of unnatural evil so visceral I started dry heaving. I could actually see the beam. Dust floating gently through it and vaporizing into tiny puffs. I could feel the skin above my pineal gland cooking from the inside. I am just barely able to tap the life alert necklace. I felt the life force leaving my body. I found strength I didn't know I had. I manually input the inverted phase into my cochlear implants. When backup arrived my pulse was basically non existent.

Leo same thing happened to me at Woodstock 99'. I tried to explain it and they committed me for five years in solitary confinement. I remember nothing of my life from before the incident. Sometimes when I'm improvising on guitar some memories come back. But they are no longer mine. They electronically lobotomized me. It started happening after I began attending city council meetings. Words can't describe the sadness I feel every day, from what was taken from me. But it will be a cold day in hell before they zap my guitar abilities. If Dave Mustain can come back from a particle wave attack so can I.

Boutique pedals are such a money sink. There are a bunch I’d like to try but I’m not going to drop hundreds of dollars on a pedal I can’t try out on a comparable setup first. The DIY kits are annoying as well, sneaky bastards trying shirk the process of manufacturing off on to the consumer..
>>
>>

It’s a vos poly finish it’s mildly glossy and supposed to replicate the vos custom shop historic finishes. In the end as long as it looks decent and has an open book headstock and good electronics I’m ok with it being an epiphone. I’ll get it set up professionally and have all the frets dressed so it plays perfect and put locking tuners on. It’ll be a good guitar
>>
>>128287179
>>128287260
For me it was such an open minder when I saw the live rig for many of the top doom bands nowadays. These guitarists have inspired a million boutique pedals loaded with the most elaborate fuzz effects you could imagine, all of them carrying badass names and over the top artwork of course. And then when you check out the actual rig these dudes play through, they literally don't even use fuzz pedals. It's all loud amps and basic overdrive shit like rats. What a fucking scam.
>>
>>128287179
That is exactly why I refuse to sink thousands of dollars into a tube amp and pedalboard. I’d rather have 10% less toan for 1/4 the price and 100x the modularity. If I were playing all originals and had a specific sound I’m going for then sure an amp with a small pedalboard that is catered to a sound I’m trying to achieve is cool. But not when you have to play 15 different covers every set and some of them sound like shit because your rig is catered to one specific sound. I suppose most of that could be remedied by using an extremely versatile amp like a MK VII but then you’re spending 2 grand more than a good modeler just on the amp itself.
>>
>>128287425
I have never listened to a doom metal song in my life and I don’t mind metal. Guess I’m just old.

If your living space permits you to be able to crank an amp, having a tube amp is really nice. That’s one of the things I’d consider worth doing some homework and splurging on. Buy once cry once. I made that original post about boutique pedals because I’m mulling over a Wombtone after recently buying and being very happy with Behringers Moog clone phaser. It’s supposed to be le dynamic and respond to your playing but do I actually need it? Definitely not. I should probably skip it and get a Jazzmaster with a rhythm circuit or just get nothing for a while. One thing I do need is a better expression pedal, the EHX one I have is pretty bad. It can be used to control multiple things at once but the foot pedal and response is very janky.

learn the sounds of your scales by sing-saying them while you’re playing them and hum the solo you want to play and transcribe it one note at a time. you’ll find you weave in and out of different scales naturally. do this enough and you’ll find your unique voice on the instrument and find that you gravitate towards certain licks and rhythmic patterns. I also highly recommend trying what you wrote over different harmonies or transposing what you wrote to a difference tonal center to see how playing the changes, not playing them, or just harmonizing completely differently sounds. you should also jam with other people or play to a backing track especially if you are a bassist because some of the most boring dogshit lines I have ever played sounded great with a band and it was what the song called for

Pacificas are ugly and people don’t really want another Strat cloon. Revstars are unique because you get a Les Paul tone in a double cut body for under a thousand that sounds and plays great. You can get a million good superstrats for under a grand.

>>128288985
yeah I disagree hard with Yamaha's decision to not mount the bridge pickup on the pickguard like the og pacificas. the cheapest ones still do and they look better for it.
I also hate the fake "hot rod" aesthetic of mismatching pickups that they do on the midrange ones, ie black p90 and chrome humbucker.

I like the look and sound of Les Paul’s better but I enjoy playing super Strats more. Regular SSS Strats with the pickups and knobs in the way I could take or leave, but you need one for certain toans. That being said I mostly play Les Paul’s because of how they look and sound and just deal with how uncomfortable they are. For some reason they’re a bigger bitch to play sitting down than any other guitar shape.
>>
>>128289001
I just think they should redesign the headstock a little, always match it to the body, and get rid of the pick guard on some of the models. I like the idear of a p90 neck with humbucker bridge. Even if they put the Revstar headstock on some as like a modded version that would satisfy me. None of the current Pacifica models interest me at all.

Beginner here. Is it a bad idea to buy an expensive guitar? I used to play a bit 10 years ago but basically only know some riffs and melodies from my favorite bands at the time, plus basic techniques like sweep and alt picking. I'm reasoning that if i end up dropping the hobby again i can get most of my money back if i buy a quality guitar that i actually like, instead of some cheap chinese one. I like playing new wave/post punk/alternative kind of stuff. Like a mix of like Television, Talking Heads, and Pixie kind of stuff
>>128290171
When I was younger yes but stopped when my first kid was born almost 10 years ago. My first paid gig playing guitar was at 16 or 17 in a classic rock cover band with a bunch of old dudes in their 50s. After high school at 18 until I was 23 or so I’d gig every other weekend or so, farthest gig away from home in WA was in Albuquerque NM. After having kids I’d play a gig every few months with friends then covid kind of killed the bar band scene here so now I’ll play at church every once in a while when they need bass or drums, too many guitarists at church
I don’t drink or do drugs or anything so playing in bars is just really out of my element. I hate being around annoying drunk people and am happier just playing by myself in my room than I ever was on stage in some bar or club

I’m the opposite, I love how Specials feel and don’t really like regular old Les Pauls. Something about the slab body, the wraparound tailpiece bridge, and the P90s just give it something that a Standard or Studio just don’t have, even like an earlier gold top with a wraparound and P90s don’t have the barebones rawness of a Special. Specials and Juniors are far and away my favorite Gibsons. They’re like Gibson’s Telecaster, just retardproof simple without any of the extra bells and whistles. Simple toan machines

32 years here, yes I’ve played lots of shows and a few decent multi day festivals. That was when I was young, I’ve since aged out of playing in serious bands but I’m not opposed to something casual playing small gigs. I’ve written a good amount of music ranging from stoner metal to psychedelic pop. I still write music but don’t have a lot of time to record it and it takes a lot longer to flesh full songs out due to work and other obligations and hobbies. I took a couple year break and got back to playing a lot about two years ago, spent a small fortune on guitars and gear which has only made me play and enjoy playing even more than ever before. When I was younger it was more of an ends to a means, and a way to make friends and socialize. Now it’s definitely more of a hobby, but I enjoy it more and progress much easier. Having a couple of decades you kind of have to be either negligent or retarded if you can’t pick up new techniques or improve at playing a certain style.

smuggler tele, an attempt at weight relief fender experimented with. this isn't a fender body though i got it on ebay for 80 bucks
>>
>>128293138
anyone who likes pipeline can't be all bad
>>
>>128293380
Fender did that in late 1967 through 1968 to try to reduce the weight because they were pumping guitars out faster than they could get a hold of lighter weight ash and were having to use heavier ash. They routed under the pickguard and you wouldn’t ever know until you removed the pickguard. People like to put clear pickguards on to show the cavities. Fender only made a couple hundred of them, and eventually the Thinline was introduced to solve the same problem.

my body is pine which is already light as shit. i don't have a scale but it's as light as my melody maker which is probably 6 pounds.

I hate playing my guitar with headphones. It just sounds so different. The thing is, I'm not even an "amp in the room" person. I use amp sims on a computer via speakers. Playing with the headphones just sounds so unsatisfying, the sound is different. I even bought "good" headphones like the DT 770 and I don't notice a difference from my 30$ headphones.
The only thing I do like is that it mutes the string noise when playing, so even clean and quiet tones sound pleasing. I fucking hate acoustic string noise on my electric, especially if I play quietly and it overpowers the actual amplified sound. It makes me so fucking mad AFUFWUUF.

they're good headphones, it's just that each ear and speaker is isolated with headphones, rather than speakers that both bleed into each ear.

weight is weird, I like my heavy 9 pound telecaster in a way it's comforting. there are some players who prefer heavy guitars, I still browse mylespaul from time to time but there's lots of old school guys who covet weight.
it makes sense in a way, I do believe the way a guitar feels/molds to you is a factor to consider

>people who post separate, 1 tone, generic 1 word description, no-photo captures of their amps and litter tone3000
Just stop. There should be a rule which says you must bundle at least 3 tones: clean, crunchy and driven. Ideally that would be extended to variations (bass, mid or treble heavy).

when i was a kid my parents promised me they would get me an Epiphone Les Paul if I got good grades. Come christmastime, I found a hardshell case with an ebony Epi Les Paul inside.
My cat, Billy... an antisemite... went into the case, pulled out his dick and peed in it.
lesson to be learned: don't leave your case open on the floor

I was also a pizza delivery driver (for Pizza Hut) from when I was 18 until I was 20 right around 2005. I drove a 1996 Chevrolet s10 with a v6 and a manual transmission and aftermarket stereo. I would crank metal and metalcore pretty much all day long.

Those S10s were dope.
I had a late year Impala. Nothing special. But pretty big as far as cars go. I outrun rabid ghetto dudes with guns in it, Starsky and Hutch style. So it served its purpose.
>>
>>128293861
no my friend I agree. I’m just feel like there’s so much wasted space inside of a rectangle case
>>
>>128294178
That's probably true, but I can fit surprisingly a lot of stuff in that side panel. I have a form fitting Martin case and can barely put anything in it.

I found earrings cool when I was little, band I liked had a drummer that had big ear rings so I would always look his way. Suddenly one day I realized the instrument he played really spoke to me and I fell in love with drums.
After taking music more seriously I appreciated all the other instruments as well and picked up bass, as well.

22 years drums, 14ish bass

A locking trem like on the Jag/JM is the best option and the best trem Femder has made by a huge margin
