I keep looking at this Squier '50s classic vibe Telecaster on the used market. I have to spend money elsewhere, though.Kindasuxx.
Anyone else see uncommon or weird boutique guitars and think why / how does someone choose to play something like that when good name brand guitars exist? You might have the worlds best playing best sounding guitar but if it has a fucked up headstock that says something like "Novo" on it then I'm going to completely disregard you as a guitar player and immediately put you in the poser zone.
school me on Wenge necks and fretboards.
>>128294829Some are cool. Anderson guitars are killer, but I don't have the money. I can afford a nice Fender, so not complaining. But those are like the cost of 3 nice Fenders.
>>128294833Idk but this schecter has me jonesing. Only problem is the nut width of 1.625 otherwise this would be my next guitar. Tbh I might still buy it and just deal with the crammed nut for open chords. It's essentially the same neck that comes on the EVH wolfgangs, which I owned and could play but it was very crammed for stuff like one last breath where I'm doing a lot of intricate fingerpicking and fast chord changes. It has a wenge neck and natural ziricote body. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SVSSExFRNZ--schecter-sun-valley-super-shredder-exotic-fr-electric-guitar-natural-ziricote
>>128294829I like Conor Oberst, so I like Fano.I never liked Les Claypool's custom bass.
>>128294880That bass has always pissed me off man.
>>128294484are u referring to all the chords in the tab or just the one in the pic?pic is a much comfier way to play that chord in particularultimate guitar is filled w rough drafts and shitty tabs unfortunately. your playing sounds very nice though :)
>>128294829I don't see how this is so important to people, vast majority can't tell one guitar brand from another
>>128294869i just can't get over how bad 99% of schecters look. i've owned one and it played great but man, they're ugly
>>128294953All of their guitars more or less adhere to the same dark metal aesthetic
>>128295014They used to be a Superstrat/modder company like Jackson and Charvel. These are the Schecters I tend to like.I guess that one above is a mix of both aesthetics. They also have Robert Smith's stuff. I guess it's still "dark", but gothy.
>>128294953That one looks fine to me, but it's the only schecter in their lineup I like. It's just a natural wood superstrat. Headstock is a bit goofy, but I like it better than any of the current charvel offerings.>>128294952Correct. Most people only know if you're playing a gibson or a fender and that's why 99% of guitarists should play a gibson or fender. Like it or not your image matters to people and will have an effect on how popular your band will get. To the average person they would likely assume that an Anderson or Novo is a chinesium knock off of fender not a more expensive boutique guitar. The only people you would impress with those are other musicians.
>>128294829It’s the same type of person that insists on only drinking boutique small batch craft beers. I’m not talking about the type of person that prefers a fat tire or Sam Adam’s over a coors light, but the type of person that only drinks “Appalachian swamp possum 9000 triple India pale ale seasonal small batch 14.7 ABV” thinking it will impress normies when all it does is impress other try hards.
>>128294829Tons of genuinely talented and humble artists out there but you’re busy being worried about what it says on their headstock? That's not what music is about dude.
>>128295075This is the stuff I would be posting on the net if I was a gibson sales rep
>>128295223It seems they’re the ones who are worried about what’s on their headstock if they’re spending 7000 dollars on a jm clone. I haven’t really seen anyone who plays one of those guitars that does anything interesting or creative with it. It’s mostly guys like Rhett shull who make boutique and vintage gear their entire personality. And let’s be honest nobody says “wow Rhett shull, he’s a fantastic musician.” It’s usually “Rhett shull the YouTube shill that makes clickbait videos?” So maybe that feeds into my negative perception of boutique brands.
>>128295223he’s right tho. other musicians, producers, and labels actually are worried about what it says on the headstock

CAGED will serve your purposes 99% of the time.
The correct answer to the boutique vs. vintage vs. modern off the shelf is = all gear is cool except for that new PRS Herman Li monstrosity
>>128294912>pic is a much comfier way to play that chord in particularty, yeah specially that chord in particular, the others i can manage
>>128294829I really don’t care what somebody else chooses to play. I like my Fano because I wanted something that felt like a Fender but sounded like a Gibson with P90s and the Fano fit that bill perfectly. I don’t care what the headstock says (unless it’s something super gay like PRS or something)
>>128294399How do you like the OC5? I have an OC2 for CKY type riffs but it’s seen better days and despite keeping the settings the same 99% of the time, occasionally it will sound off.
You ARE part of the club, right? You DO have a membership card, right?

If I buy a guitar body with a neck pocket cut for a Fender neck, and buy a complete neck from someone like Warmouth, will the guitar be able to be set up when assembled no problem or will it need final fret work? I want to put together a parts caster and the one thing I don’t know how to do is fret work. I want to buy a complete neck that can just drop on.
>>128296021I’ve never had a problem with a warmoth neck (I’ve had 4), maybe 1-2 slightly high frets. not enough to cause buzzing but detectable on a rocker. highly recommend getting the graphite rod upgrade tho you’ll basically have to adjust the truss rod once every 5 years.
>>128296021They rarely ever fit without any problems, usually you have to sand the neck pocket to get it to fit properly in my experience. Best to buy the body and the neck from the same manufacturer if you can, if not it's not a big deal just some extra steps. Also make sure the body is the same heel type as the neck (strat vs tele)

Last night I kept getting unknown callers. They would stay on the line, breathing. Than hang up. This morning got a text from work asking me why I came in on my off day. I didn't though? I realized... My heart sank. He's doing it again. My Sweetwater rep got his hands on another custom lifelike rubber mask of my face. He's out of prison on good behaviour, and he's going around acting like he's me. He's trying to become me. He reconciled the relationship with my ex wife and shes been calling wanting to give it another try. He's aggressively making accomplishments I never could. Almost like he's saying, "I'm better at being you than you are...". I'm starting to question if I'm even real. If HE deserves to be me, the real me...
>>128295774I like the OC5 a lot. I don't use the lower octave that much but the higher octave they have sounds good with my distortion setup. Mixed with the whammy sometimes I get this super heavy sound that initially sounds like a guitar
Think I’m going to go with a black Revstar, but I’m going to replace the tuners with graph tech ratio locking in black, bridge with graph tech string saver tune o matic in black, and tailpiece with a black or gotoh, whatever I can find that fits. Probably going to go with Les Paul speed knobs. Should make it extremely stable tuning wise and will look and sound better. I think those things will solve every hesitation I have about the Revstar and make it feel more premium.
>>128296203Kafkaesque... I'd say call the police but I don't know if they can stop a force of darkness like that. If it would even be safe to engage him. This is a man that doesn't negotiate. >>128296252what are you going to do to fix the body shape
>>128296021It's likely you will need to work some magic to get the neck to fit in the pocket, but if it's a good neck you won't need to do any fret work
>>128296257Andy stop this foolishness. Your family is looking for you. Give it up. I shop at gc now. It's over. I'm sorry.
>>128296252Nevermind graph tech makes the tail piece it’s just not on their website for some reason. >>128296260I like the body shape. I don’t like the brushed nickel chinesium hardware. Seeing as it has stainless frets I’ll only have to get it professionally set up once and then it should be solid for a long time. The bridge will help the tuning stability and resonance and the tuners will make tuning / restringing a breeze. Only other thing people say suck are the knobs so I’ll have to do some research and find out which ones are drop in and look good.
>>128296257Lay off him Andy. I don't want to have to send my rep on a containment mission. A rouge Sweetwater rep is a loose cannon. You are smarter than this. Think about the oath you took. Do no harm, remember that? I spoke at your christening ceremony for hecks sake.
>>128296307The headstock looks really sick with black hardware in my opinion. The black bridge will help as well. And I’ll probably just end up going with these for knobs to make it easy and color match. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KnobShortBC--gotoh-vk3-metal-dome-knob-black-chromeMight be a good idea to order some black chrome screws for the pickups and pick guard. Only thing left that will be chrome is are the pickup covers but I’ll wait on that to see how it contrasts. Should look really neat.

>>128296377Yeah I know I’m just saying I like the black on black with white binding look. It looked even better before the binding yellowed. I definitely don’t want emg’s. But I’m also not sure what pickup covers are compatible.
>>128296391EMG makes passive pickups too
>>128296391Heck maybe I’ll just get a set of black covered JB/59 and call it a day. If I can get the guitar for around 600 with my credit and discount then I’ll have the money to do all that for under a grand.
>>128296415Everyone makes passive pickups. Depends on the sound you’re looking for. If the stock ones sound good then you can find a set of compatible black covers.
>>128296415If I go aftermarket I’m going Seymour Duncan. They make covered pickups. The intent is not to clone Kirk’s guitar I was just saying I’ve always liked the general look of it.
>>128296426idk sounds like you’re cloning his guitar dude

>>128296678I thought we all agreed that either all of us are making it or none of use are making it. Who is trying to hustle on the side?
>>128296685They didn't need truss rods except for modern design. The nylon/gut strings of old instruments never exerted that much pressure. That design turned out to be shit when steel string guitars popped up. Funnily, Martin didn't even keep up with the times until like the 70s. That was when they first included truss rods. So if you ever got money to blow, getting a vintage Martin is a bigger gamble than other stuff.

>>128296760Gotta be a Gretsch Penguin my guy. That guitar was basically designed for you.
>>128296770Yeah. And to their and Martin's defense, they tend to use quartersawn or better wood. Which would be more resistant. Now we have electrics that are like quartersawn and double truss graphite reinforced. It's all over-engineered..but I'll take it. Can't go wrong at least.
>>128296476My SheratonII has 57 Classics, upgraded wiring and tuning machines. It's a beast.
>>128296798Whoa tell me more about the history of quartersawn wood used in martin guitars. I'm in the edge of my seat. And how many layers do they usually use in laminated tops, do they glue them together? Where do they source their glue? Do they make it in house?
>>128296798you could totally get by with 3 graphite reinforcement rods and no truss rod but that requires making sure the neck angle, fretboard, and frets are all shaped accurately which is far too much work and liability for manufacturers. even the 40s martins that used ebony rods or t bars very rarely had relief problems. it was the top and sides of the guitar caving in after decades of string tension. I also like the graphite reinforced necks because you typically don’t have to retune the instrument during temperature and humidity changes

>>128297253Jimmy Page is still alive. Unless you mean best one currently at their peak?
Bros I'm having a dissociative breakdown rn. Is Taylor actually posting? The wording is too bitchy and catty to not be a girl.
>>128297253Bovine Jonie.
>>128297267At their peak
>>128297270Taylor is a regular bro
Britney puts all you girls to shame anyways. She was a Micheal Jackson level artist in her prime. I bet she can absolutely shred in the studio too. Some people just have it. Taylor wouldn't exist without Britney.
>>128297191amps, pedals, etc
>>128297318I knew I could sense the feminine energy. Is she the offset poster? How deep does the rabbit hole go?
>>128297191
>>128297320As IF. Britney can sing and is an elite dancer but she can't entertain a crowd with just an acoustic a microphone and a chair. She needs a pole onstage to draw a crowd. I'm an actual folk artist sweaty.
>>128297355She's hotter than your hunch back gangly ass buck tooth crime of a look. Sweety.
>>128297374Jeez Britney chill. We like both of you damn...
I see youhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elueA2rofoo
>>128297301John Mayer (traditional) and Buckethead (experimental). Definitely Julian Lage for non-rock guitarists. New captcha sucks btw.
>>128297407America's sweetheart. Taylor could never...
>>128297267Page was the better songwriter, but Blackmore the better player imho.I don't know. There are way more skilled players out there these days. Or has been since EVH. These guys are old guard, but they still stand out for more than just skills. EVH looked up to them too. They have the badass mystique.

The best guitarist currently alive is a strung out degenerate that perpetually has his gear in and out of pawn shops and has an innate ability to ruin every relationship he enters thereby never being able to get a project off the ground. I've met at least half a dozen people like this. Answer B: John Mayer
>>128297436credit to Blackmore, he can definitely play more complex than Page, but I feel like good songwriting and playing skill are both equally important otherwise Tim Henson mogs everybody.
luv my ni/gg/as who talk gear and music and are nice and funny and helpful love bantzhate the ni/gg/ers who are mean and gaysimple as
>>128297503Hard to disagree.
Unfortunately didnt like this but that's okay with me. I think I'll use what I have to try and get my own tone instead of copying everything that gibson does.
>>128297563nice bulge stepbwo
Subtle racism in my bass book? Whats going on here
>>128297481That sounds like me..
>>128297739Is that Hal Leonard, bro?
>>128297563What didn’t you like about it? It's got a Space Echo built in and that's my favorite
>>128297762Yes it is. I got the bass method complete edition. It's the only reading practice I do but it's really good. >>128297770I wasn't a fan of how it mixed with my distortion stuff. The guy I was trying to copy actually uses the guitar version on his bass, which I didnt know. So that is also probably why I didn't like how it mixed. On its own it did sound fine but I'm trying to find things that will help me get the tone I'm looking for. I also couldn't figure out how to get the tap feature to turn off. I kept hearing a click in my amp
>>128294309Can anyone give me some slap bass tips?
>>128297828That's cool man. I'm working through Hal Leonard's guitar book, too.
>>128296489I made my ownWith p90s of doesn't sound like a regular telecaster
When playing slap bass how do you do it without pain and bruising?
>>128297856Do you miss the tele bridge, or do you prefer the p90 bridge?
>>128297853Have you completed any of the books?
>>128297877The bridge that was on there was a piece of shit it was never ever able to be intonated properly so I'm glad I have this new bridge that string through instead of string across. So no, I don't miss the bridge pickup or the bridge.
Do I need to pull my foreskin back when slapping the strings? I think this is my error.
>>128297885Book 1. I'm on The Water is Wide for book 2 right now. I started them to work on my sight reading as well, and to iron out the fundamentals I guess
>>128296489Is it because the pickguard is shaped like an erect phallus?
>>128297980never heard of people doing that. usually you just use it to keep your chewing tobacco moist while you sing
How do I get the low-down stinky, Memphis tone?
>>128297980you get better tone with the head
>>128298037Too late. Now my head is bruised. Should I be hard for this? Half mast maybe? It not only hurts but I can’t get that funky sound.
>>128298047What is a “rake?” Drag my testicles across the strings. How does Less Claypool do this shit?
>>128296476People out $300 pickups in squier mustangs, what's the big deal?
>>128298096i think he had his snipped. it makes it much less painful

>>128298019yeah maybe...

Is their a name for this chord? Chord identifier says no.Basically a C-chord but the first finger on the third fret.>E-not played>A-5th fret>D-4th fret>G-open>B-3rd fret>E-open
>>128298892Cadd9?
>>128298942Can't be, my first finger is on the 3rd fret B string. It's just a C-chord pushed to the 3rd fret instead of starting on the 1st fret
Watching people use the self checkout at the grocery store makes you realize how incompetent and stupid most of the people around you are. It quite literally takes them 5 minutes to scan 2 items and remit payment. It’s like watching a monkey try to figure out which shaped block goes in which shaped hole.
>>128298969Dsus4add9 maybe idk. Sorry misread half of that I just woke up
>>128299000idk chord identifier says it isn't a chord but it sounds good
>>128299012Maybe even Dadd4add9 since you still have the major 3rd
>>128298892Some flavor of D add something. Just playing the A string, D string, and B string is just a D, adding the open G string but no open high E makes it an add4, adding the open open high E string with no open G makes it a sus2, adding both the open G and open high E makes it idk some kind of addsus420
>>128298808But it was my first time playing it!
>>128299046>>128299026It's a Dadd9add11.Oolimo says "The tension 11 causes a strong dissonance when used with a major chord/major 3rd!" but it sounds good
>>128299076Keep that shape and play it with your ring finger at the 10th fret and that makes a cool sounding G
Played that Boogie today. Aint no thang. Niggas gonna hate tho watch.
>>128299076the 4 is in the same octave as the 3rd so idk if that’s right
>>128299076It’s a cadd9, extremely common chord voicing. Doesn’t have to have the high e string in it but you can either play it open or fretted on the third fret of high e as well. The pre-chorus of plus uses this chord, as well as the verse in sweet home Alabama a ton of Van Halen and AC/DC stuff.

I swear you people are illiterate

>>128299154I didn’t read your gay little fret by fret breakdown you just said c chord with the index moved to the third fret. First of all it’s not a c chord if you’re starting on the D, faggot. So you’re the one who’s illiterate.

Just want you guys to know I love you and all the shitposts about gear are all in good fun. All gear at all price levels are welcome, except Ibanez.
Ordered some strings based on how the packages look. Which one would you get picking it up in a store?
Do you like rock music guys?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm8Djf2tbzA
>>128299495You can get used recs and mk5’s for around 1000 bucks these days. Used market for boomer tubes is dead
>>128299741>except Ibanez Based
>>128299764>daddario looks safe but mass produced >pyramidcan’t be bothered to seal or put a hanger on their package. prob made by some guy smoking a cig in his garage >aquilatrying to look professional on the cheapdef the pyramids for an obscure/classical instrument
>>128299741But Ibanez are the best guitars
>>128299874the pyramids are 6 bux cheaper, and also probably technically the worst, but who knows how they're packaged inside and that classic art is banging. agreed about the aquila. although they do remind me of old savarez classicals, so I had to try them out, along with the whole synthetic gut thing.
How do you guys hold your guitar/bass while sitting?I sit like Fig 1 because it's the most comfortable way to play for me.I sit like this with my bass and I sit like this with my jazzmaster. feels good, man
Nothing wrong with a good Ibanez.
>>1282999451 for classical when i'm doing the fancy shit, 2 when i'm just fucking around or most other things.
Why is there not a singing general?Or is singing different than guitar where you actually should take lessons
>>128299911do you mean the pyramids sound bad or just theoretically you’re expecting them to be? that’s a shame
>>128299945for guitar classical position makes sense because guitar is ergonomically a nightmare. for a p bass I have the strap set to where the bass doesn’t move at all if I go from sitting to standing and use the forearm contour as an arm rest. I play 4-5 hours a day every day with no problems and have perfect textbook left hand technique. for guitar it’s the complete opposite, the guitar digs into my forearm or hurts my shoulder and my fretting wrist is under constant flexion and my tendons hurt after a few hours
>>128300064>4-5 hours a day every daydamn son. are you a studio musician?
>>128300102no just disabled (not that disabled anon) and generalized anxiety disorder. 1 hour is highly structured practice to metronome etc, another hour and a half is just holding it in my lap and subconsciously working on technique while I read or watch tv, and 2 hours is just playing/learning a song/noodling. my father in law has been playing piano for 30 years and we jam once a week/church gigs/weddings
>>128299844>>128299881>buy active bass>electronics fucked after 5 yearsand I take good care of my things. it wasn't even the battery. jack was done for for no reason
>>128300149more like inactive bass
>>128300149Was it one of those long thick (pause) barrel jacks? Those things are awful
>>128300024They're cheap strings and there are better, longer lasting options, some of which is feel and preference on a given instrument, but higher grade strings do last longer and don't get fucky as fast. It's like buying cheapo classical strings at the music store. they don't last and one string may or may not be a nightmare the whole time you have them. Luckily the equivalent of the G string is usually wound, although it does sound a little weird being wound and clear is an option that has the same problem if done wrong.
>>128300158yeah no shit. I googled a bit and found that that's a common problem with Ibanez basses
>>128300173rip. pouring one out for the single guy working at pyramid
>>128300024also, you tend to run oud strings a long time, long after they'd be "dead" on a spanish guitar, because that's the sound, and you want them to hold up before they get the fucky funk that throws intonation off.
>>128300184They are the ernie ball of oud. With none of the options, but the same price and expectations.
>>128299945Classical position when I'm sitting down to play, which is rare.
>>128300167and veiny on top. a replacement isn't expensive, but it still sucks that they put shit hardware in it.
>>128300145does the constant practice actually make you any better? some rest sure would do wonders - just so your brain can rest from time to time
>>128297342I ruined anything that wasn't song practice mode when this came out because I didn't understand what an amp was or cabs nor signal chain and made a giga-abomination setup. The modeled sounds aren't actually bad which is surprising. I'm just mad that rocksmith seems to have relatively low latency but I have to buy a DAW or input to use amplitube or tonex without 500ms lag.
>>128300237there are some things I need to practice every day because I’m very advanced at it or it’s just good to do so (finger plucking speed, ghost note accentuation, timing) but honestly I can not touch the bass for a few days and still see progress. so, I’m definitely overdoing it; you could practice 30 mins twice a day and have the same results as I do, but you have to be more selective about what you practice. I like to really analyze and learn what’s going on in basslines I like and that can sometimes take two hours and not much physical work gets done. I actually quit for like 4 months one time but was still really listening to music and my ear was better when I picked it back up
>>128299945Mostly 1. Jazzmasters have the superior ergonomics for sitting or standing.
>>128297253I would argue that a lot of professional classical and jazz guitarists are at a level that most rock guitarists would never come close to, technically speaking
>>128300344no question that true classical players are the most technically proficient, but they’re also specialists and that comes with drawbacks. that probably puts jazzers at #1 but they are so up their own ass sometimes that what they play is not enjoyable
>>128300344I figured if there was an honest top 100 list of people who listen to the full extent of guitarists, only 2 or so rock musicians would be in the top 10 and the top 20 wouldn't include most of the usual lists.
Who is your favorite guitarist that nobody seems to talk about? Mine is GE Smith.
>>128300464Norman Blake. his fashion is off the charts
>>128299829You get the shit 3 channel dual recs that no one wants for that price, not the superior 2 channel or 3 channel multiwatts. You cant get a mark 5 for $1000 lmao
>>128299544Youngfags don't know. This list is missing tons of names toohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mesa/Boogie_users
>>128300657I sold a mk5 for 1200 2 years ago they can be had on marketplace for cheap. Not on reverb you have to look locally for someone who needs the cash. Speaking of which I found this and he will take 800 so whenever the gc fiasco funds hit my account I’m gonna buy it. I figure out if the two if it’s between a black Revstar and a black studio the studio is the better guitar and has a nitro finish. Will upgrade the bridge and tuners on that too.
>they actually had to make a wiki
>>128300723Rare desperation sales are not indicative of market value.
IMO, just go with a true Marshall unless you like a band that has specific tones only the Mesa can do. They share 90% of the same tone footprint.
>>128300768Reverb resellers aren’t either. They sell for what people are willing to pay. I’ve seen plenty of mesa heads and combos for under 1500 recently. I bought it for 1400 and it was on marketplace for a month before I did.

What's wrong with making a wiki entry anyways. Better than "I know a guy who can name 30 Mesa players"
>>128300464Keith from 5-Watt World
>>128300780Reverb largely shapes the resale market whether you like it or not. Guitar center's used mark v heads look to all be $1,700+ as well.
