I just remembered the dark days of prod, back when someone was always like you're ngmi, you should kysRemember that? And then finally we like started arguing with him, a bit of therapy I guess, and he like... Fucking left This was a few years ago, but damn it was seriously a thing that went on for years and years and years
>>128324785>4 AA'sDamn thats pretty good. My billy bass takes like 4 C batteries. I wonder what advancements they've made to it to save energy or do you just need to replace the batteries every 3 times you use it?
>>128325585see >>128323055there are orders of magnitude more subtleties that you're ignorant of, so if you think your music is good and you publish it, then don't get success for years, you'll come up with some excuse like you don't have the marketing of a big label or something, but i could listen to your song and know that it's crap so it's no surprise that you don't get success and no big label wants to sign you

>>128326649>>128326706As the TranceAnon from /dmp/, I will listen to thisBPM is a bit high, but that's a minor complaint (now-a-days, 140+ is common for trance)That little drum combo you keep reusing does not really fit trance, try something simpler, more of a crescendo thingIt needs more pads and some whooshing noise... it needs to feel fullerOverall though, the melodies and sounds are good. I like the second half. It works well for old school-ish trance (doesn't really fit the modern trance sound, but that's fine). The overall arrangement could be shuffled up a bit though. Trance should have a gradual buildup, then a release into the breakdown, then a buildup out of the breakdown into a drop, then high energy, and then gradual cool down into the end. You have all of the elements, but with some re-ordering it would fit the template better. There should definitely be more going on after the breakdown ends, that should be one of the most energetic parts of the track.>>128326929To really release it, you need a version that a DJ can mix with preceding and succeeding tracks in their set. Right now, you have a "Radio Edit" length track, and the overall arrangement actually works decently for that (though could still use a bit of re-ordering). But for a full length mix, the buildup/release/breakdown/drop/closing should be very structured.Listen to these to hear what I'm talking about:https://youtu.be/T2kMZ0pglfE Binary Finary - "1998 (Gouryella Remix)"https://youtu.be/647jA8M4ecs Same track, but the Radio Edit

>>128327363Thanks a lot for the feedback, i just made something that i thought sounded like trance, I don't really know the intricacies and history of proper trance music, i just got into listening to stuff like Marlon Hofstadt, Benwal, KI/KI this year and I really dig it, I've heard its kind of more of an offshoot of Trance that isn't as purist as proper trance. Would love to know more about Trance so I'm less ignorant, do you have some producers I can listen to so I know what "real" trance sounds like? Also, what do you mean with a whooshing noise? >>128331072Go listen to the "A State of Trance" compilation albums (not the "Year Mix" ones though). There's two or three CDs for each year starting in 2004. So, you can find an era you want to slot into. I recommend starting with like 2008-2012. Most of them are available on YT or other streaming services. Or, if you want a more classic 90s sound, there are plenty of mixes on YT full of 90s trance hits.

Going from "working at first glance" and actually being useful / reliable has been a challenge, but now I can say most everything that is present in the app works as expected.Biggest issues I was having was getting the midi / wav exports to properly include all of the paramater automations / edits, but it's all working now.Today I'm focusing on breaking out the transcription mode into a more focused panel, and improving those features specifically. _then_ I will add song / arrangement mode.Already I get a lot of use out of this as just something to play samples with on my MIDI keyboard. I can just load up the sample bank on another tab and noodle. It's also really fun to use on a tablet / phone.Nothing special, just me validating swing, velocity, substeps and pitch changes all exported to wav properly : https://voca.ro/1aEg7PXhVwSK/blog

>>128332682he's truly stupid and delusional and constantly lies and lies to himself with mental gymnastics. he's had numerous meltdowns about gearfags, insisting that all you need is fl studio, citing outliers from years ago like soulja boy and skrillex (who both had professional mixing/mastering anyway, just the basic beat was made on a computer). he's also cited this cheesy ass sytrus demo song several times over the course of about a year. he's very slow to learn in general and might still be stuck on the idea that this demo song doesn't suck ass.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWDOIm24lhweven in the last thread he showed once again that he doesn't understand analog coloration: >>128293974he has awful taste in general and thinks it's impossible to tell if a song is a hit just by hearing it without cues like seeing the amount of views on a music video or knowing that the artist is famous or to distinguish between analog gear and plugins in a blind test
and he won't even look for plugin emulations of various gear such as the 1176, he has no natural curiosity and drive to seek out these things
>>128335895he's also short, bald, and stinky
i previously mentioned this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dD_3_AeOTYsee at 10:00 to 12:30 how the original roland D-50 has the ebin sound and the D-05 does notthis synapse proxima emulation of prophet-600 might fool a lot of newfags, but to me it's similarly flawed as the D-05 vs D-50https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDhufDCzWk4kiive vs tubetech CL1B, everyone they interviewed guessed correctly, this type of video pisses me off when it's like the plugin developer thinks they nailed the sound and it just falls flathttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gcHA5pSRE0this is like ragebait, he claims he would pick the plugin version despite most commenters strongly preferring the analog versionhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBNYuCxe4Yc

>>128331005https://vocaroo.com/1htq5XanP3wBadded trumpet soloare the vocals too loud?
>>128325938Should've been a bigger deal than it ended up being. Serum 2 was a massive improvement, Falcon 3 is a solid overhaul and Phase Plant 3 will be huge. Omnisphere 3 should feel like a big upgrade but it doesn't.With that said though, it does feel more modern than 2 and less like a plastic physical synth filled with weights to make it seem more premium. The workflow isn't too different but it's different enough for me to want to make music with it.The mutate feature is hit or miss, not as fast and rewarding as Absynth, but I've already made a ton or very usable patches with it.

>>128342443you can try subtle saturation(tube, transformer, tape), narrow band eq from 100~ to 12k~,subtle optical or parallel compression, subtle plate or spring reverb
>>128342838https://vocaroo.com/1192Jyp6amPHdoes this sound better?
>>128342948i prefer this one more, nice
>>128339962Very JRPG factory/lab area feeling. Bit too low end heavy and muted, I think, especially those drums being buried like that. Maybe that's a choice, but I would argue it's overdone and it suffers a bit as a result. The bass volume is inconsistent and is a bit too present ass well. Still, I enjoyed it, just needs fine-tuning on the mix.

>play a song I made quietly>still feels like it's raping my earswhat am I doing wrong exactly
>>128348158Could be a mixing/metering issue or Master metering. I suspect dynamics though. Maybe pull back EQ spikes if you done some wild EQ shapes. Or pull back compression, its Input/output volumes. Look into limiters.I believe there are limiters which can help with dynamics and are not simply a brick wall so you won't hit red.Hows you meterings in general. Some plugins like EQs or Comps have their own meters. Check those that are reasonable and not redlining. All these perceived/real loudness and LUFS is a tricky part of making music nowadays..
>>128348231I know nothing about this shit desu. Don't even know where to begin
>>128348247Forget all of it. Find your mixer window of your DAW and play your song while looking at them. Don't listen with your ears, listen with your 'eyes'.What do those bars do? What values do they hit?Do any of them go redline to the top?Usually the separate one to the far right will be your master (all tracks together). This need no plugins, the MIX tab with the meters is part of any daw.
*generally you don't want anything to hit above 3 on top (in the middle of 6 and 0)If it's all gibberish, have a look on youtube "how to mix on 'DAW name'">>128348305
>>128348305I just put a limiter on my main track at -3db lol, I try not to listen at too high a volume but it still hurts my ears.I also sidechain, I think maybe I go too crazy with my pads and they occupy the low end too much
>>128348358-3dB. The standard perfect.Does it feel boomy or maybe piercing? If you get boom you can put a master EQ to curve out the lows a bit.If it's piercing, maybe the opposite and curve out the highs.Or pull back on the sidechained tracks. Maybe you overcrowded the low end with too many different sounds with the same frequencies and made the lows harsh to the ears.
I started making ambient music. Basically short droning sounds with a hint of an occasional tonal shift and melody. First two tracks had one layer, 3rd track has 2 layers. I have no musical bone in my body but it's a fun journey. Yes, it's minimalistic and easy, but it's a start. Who knows where I will end up after 40 tracks (if I ever get that far)? It's fun to play with sounds that make me feel like I am giving a voice to my existential dread and terror.
>>128348872It's fun.
