Guy at guitar center talked to me about basses. Going to look into a 2nd bass since fender arent made for metal and they would need to permanently edit the fender to make it useful for what I wanna play. Need advice an active bass that has nuts that handle thick gauges well. Any advice?
>>
>>128326034
this isnt the place to post your off-topic shit, Danny
>>
>>128326447
you can use any instrument for any genre. 90% of the sound is achieved by the amp. if you only want to use one bass i would consider ditching metal entirely unless the idea of never progressing as a musician after the initial 3 months appeals to you.

Just buy any active bass and have the nut worked on, it will be less effort than finding a good specialized bass and probably less money too
>>
>>128326642
Yeah the guy also said get an active bass and that anyone would work but to also look into seeing if there's a brand thats popular with metal players.

>>128326520
Guy also mentioned certain amps were more tuned for metal music also. I had a feeling that fender wasnt the right brand for the heavier stuff and that was confirmed tonight. Not bad but just means I need to look into shit more.
>>
>>128326673
Ibanez makes some actives that are popular with metalheads
>>
>>128326728
The guy in the band i wanna copy has a pavey t 40. Was thinking of grabbing one of those. But a cheap active ibanez will probably be better
>>
>>128326673
Fender amps aren't metal amps but you could use a fender bass no problem, Newsted used a jazz bass, Harris used a P bass, etc. If you really want actives by all means get actives though.

My Mustang has 10s on it but I normally set them up with 11s, and I’ve been putting off changing strings because I really don’t want to deal with the hassle that is setting up a Mustang and it’s vibrato unit. Once it’s set up for your string gauge it’s fine but I’ve been procrastinating and just need to do it

>Newsted used a jazz bass, Harris used a P bass, etc. If you really want actives by all means get actives though.
Most chat pile songs are in drop A and i told the guy about this and he said that is better to get a 5 string or adjust the nut and something about the bolt i think. I had a hard time following some of the conversation when it got down the specific parts of the bass that would need to be changed for drop A and B to not sound muddy.

>>128326950
>buy a darkglass infinity combo 2x10 a
this is the exact amp he told me about also kek. he mentioned that transposing feature also. That seems okay but its too expensive and id rather have my instrument tuned to what i want rather than editing it through an amp
>>
>>128326950

NTA but how would it recognize which string is supposed to be tuned to what?
>>
>>128327000
ok well you received legitimate advice. good luck
>>
Is it worth getting an empty single cab and putting a speaker of my choice in there (thinking hesu demon), and then down the line getting an empty 2x12 cab and putting it there with a mixed speaker (thinking neo creamback for fuller tone)? Kinda limited on budget atm and I'd rather spend more money on a better amp head now (thinking orange th30).
>>
>>128327000
https://youtu.be/DYA9pdLolbo
give this a listen, I think the line6 shifter wasn't bad at all, it's more affordable than the darkglass one
>>
>>128327015
Just a pitch shifter the bass would need to be proportionally tuned
>>
>>128327066
Thanks. I believe I'll end up going with a different bass over anything else. I dont want anymore pedals or to have myself tied to a PC or amp for my main tone. Id rather just have a bass for that sound.

>>128327111
I would consider this if it wasnt stuck on the PC. I don't really want to lug around anything else.
>>
>>128327438
Look up some isolated metal bass before you commit to anything. it sounds awful on its own but it’s the only way to cut through a mix that muddy

>>128326286
You're hitting the 1, but you're stretching the middle of the riff because straight 16ths are faster than your rhythm hand.

Figured out I could preorder the stadium xl from sweetwater without actually paying for it until it ships. The estimated ship date for orders placed right now is first week of dec. So I just need to make 2300 dollars door dashing between now and then. It’s possible. Picking up my lp studio tomorrow morning (hopefully)
>>
>>128327639
you have other options but ok
>>
>>128327614

>>
>>128326973
That’s not true I’m buying the black lp studio for 800 tomorrow if those funds come back on my account. He’s holding it for me. I was listening to some early 2000s rock today and it got me pumped for a studio. I think it’ll be a good second guitar regardless of what I make my main guitar in the future. Saving for a stadium xl again now.

that would be a good way to learn pick. pick will add lots of mids and more decay imo. if you’re the metal guy worried about his bass getting buried in the mix you can lower your action and use the treble from the string noise to your advantage. I think damn near all the finger style metal bassists are doing that. you lose the feel of bottom end when you just keep stacking drive

yes that is me. the guy who I am trying to copy said in an interview he gets more attack with a pick so thats better for his sound. another bassist i like had a comment like that in a book i read. I have also run into my fingers getting tired after 15-20 minutes of playing.

>you lose the feel of bottom end when you just keep stacking drive
i also noticed this when i jam by myself. ive been testing out combinations with my pedals and i usually dont have the drive up too high on any of them when playing.

Trying to learn the chord progression by ear. I can do it pretty easy when it's just an acoustic playing, but an arrangement is harder to think of as chords. Seems a lot of minor seventh chords. Trying to incorporate the vocal harmonies into the guitar as well.

there were 2 generations of 'highway ones'

the second gen was poly with a thin layer of nitro on top. not as well regarded because the pickups were cheap and dull sounding and they used big ass jumbo frets
i have the second gen 'thin skin' one. actually like that it has fat frets but the bridge pickup had no treble so I changed it

poly acts as a pore fill but also keeps you from wearing away to the bare wood and sanding sealer. bare wood turns nasty dark grey. I don’t mind it especially if it’s a different color poly base coat like Daphne blue wearing into white
>>
>>128329293
stradivari didn’t use poly

Gibson uses sanding sealer on their back and sides that’s why they’re red/brown instead of natural mahogany color. the tint is in the nitro so it’s stain or stainless pore/sanding sealer > poly flash coat > nitro.
>>128329338
what does that even mean? It would take like 30 coats of nitro to fill pores

proper gauge strings for your axe:
acoustic: depends on tuning and how much tension you want
electric: depends on tuning and how much tension you want

having said that, certain gauges of string will always produce an inherent kind of sound that can't be altered by tension or tuning. i think the high E on a set of 9s is too anemic for all applications even at 25.5 inch scale so i've moved to 9.5 on fender scales and kept 10s on the gibson scales. 10 and 11 still work for each scale length in E standard respectively but you start to lose treble and transients the tighter the strings get and i don't like that.
>>
>>128328202
Europe does make good guitars they just don't have the same brand recognition as the American brands. Plus the American guitars have all already established themselves, are classic, traditional, etc. All the good ideas have already been done. I'm fine with a guitar picking up wear and tear from honest use and not abuse but there's almost no difference between a beaten up piece of shit finished in poly and a beaten up piece of shit finished in nitro, both look fucked up. Just take care of your gear. Why are people even discussing how best to gouge chunks out of their finish and in what situation this would look best. Retards.

How do i overcpme the latency of some amp sims? Amplitube always has like 250ms of lag and It's genuinely hard to play with a backing track and not mess up my tempo
>>
>>128331916
When I asked this people just told me to buy a macbook
>>
>>128331916
You need to make sure you’re in AISO mode and connected to an AISO capable audio interface in the settings of your amp sim and daw. Set your cache to 256kb or less. Make sure your usb cable going from the audio interface to the computer is connected to a USB 2.0 or greater input. You should not feel any latency when you do all this, unless your computer is just straight raw sewage.
>>128331975
Macs are definitely the best for recording when it comes to processing power and audio quality but you should be able to record with a pc without noticeable latency no problem as long as it’s setup properly. I used to use a MacBook Pro m3 but ended up selling it because I hate having to switch desks to play guitar, and I have dual monitors on my gaming pc setup which is nice for keeping track of sims and daw on separate screens.
>>
>>128332063

There are websites where you can enter all of those notes on a guitar fretboard and it tells you what it is.
What is concerning is the way you're learning to play the guitar. It seems like it's giving you rotten fish instead of teaching you how to fish in a clear, mountain stream.
It's a Major 7 barre shape on the 5th string. Any normal guitar course would eventually lead you to learn that.

The idea is to show how notes are coming at your fretboard

When you're holding your guitar the 6th string is closer to your face than the 1st, just like in the game. This way it's easier to understand whre to go and what to pick next. You can also reverse this shit in the settings

It's like a psychological experiment. Seeing goobers come and plug in right next to you as soon as you start playing. The guy in the drum room spontaneously jamming with you from across the store. The manager asking you to turn it down because he needs to make a call, and you end up walking out because you where about to buy that 7 string and you're so pissed off you go to the bar across the street while panic buying gear on Sweetwater because you just need to hear his voice. 10 minutes after you make a purchase of jazlll picks, he calls. "Honey, what's wrong? I saw a guitar center transaction on your bank account. Are you safe? I love you sweetheart, remember Venice 2013? Remember what we have? Are you at the bar again honey?". And you tell him you are just at the park watching birds. You hear him sigh because you both know what's going on. "I miss your touch, your body". My phone battery runs out and he already made everything ok.

My bass seems to produce an obnoxious electrical sound when I have the preamp turned on, but if I touch the metal on the preamp bypass switch, it stops. It also stops if I touch the metal sleeve on my cable. There is no noise if I bypass the preamp entirely (passive pickups). Is this a grounding problem? Will it be expensive to get it fixed?

That’s an expression not a literal statement and if you can play any guitar for a full week without tuning then you are obviously not using vibrato or bending. Anyone can keep a guitar in tune if all they do is gently noodle on it.

>>
>it's bad because it comes from mexico
Anyone can operate a CNC machine with some functioning eyes and basic training. Could you get one with bad QC? Sure but probably not, the 500 people who got a fine guitar don't complain as much as the 50 who got a dud. You could also get one with bad QC from the "superior" USA custom shop y'know.
>>
>>128336600
It's not the machine but the upkeep and maintenance.
>>
>>128336600
You’re aware that cnc machines don’t assemble guitars, right?
>>
>>128326807
That looks pretty bad, like an actual piece of the neck's tenon broke off. I had a similar break in my epiphone (seems like a feature of the brand) but it was more like the joint just separated. Either way I'd recommend an attempt to reglue the neck back in, just be mindful to keep the correct neck angle.
>>
>>128336549
they don’t spend any time doing fine detail work on them like shaping the frets or doing a setup and their standard for QC are dogshit so you’ll get shit like twisted necks and maxed truss rods get through the cracks. it’s all dependent on how shitty the company is because it all trickles down but I want everything I own to be made in USA if at all possible

The pickup winding machine can also be operated by anyone.
>>
>>128336757
Even IF every single part of the guitar was cnc machined and plek’d they would still have to have someone hand assemble individual parts, put the frets in the neck, shim the neck joint, paint and bind the guitar. Wire the pickups, Install the hardware. crown, level and dress the frets, string it, and set up the bridge height / neck relief / intonation. Then it all has to be quality checked by someone competent. Machining the body and neck is literally the easiest part.
