I have a relatively powerful solid state amp. it has an onboard compressor, a master volume, and a distortion circuit with gain and level. for some reason it has to be cranked pretty loud to get distortion, idk if there are actually tubes in the circuit. what should I be boosting first to get the most distortion without increasing the overall volume much? if I have to run an external pedal I’ll just buy another amp
>>
>>128895976
I could be mistaken but the doublecuts don't have maple caps

My sons Floyd and Kahler are forming their own rock group. They don't listen to Bieber, they listen to real stuff like "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith, unlike the other kids in the zoomer generation lol
>>
>>128896021
just get a super crush if you want a solid state with good distortion. most solid states are bad at it, because distortion is actually not pleasing without tubes or tube modeling to round off the harshness
>>
>>128896038
lame. I just wanted a tiny bit of tube saturation and some compression without having to use a pedal board. maybe I’ll just build a b15 kit

I love hollowbodies but I would honestly get the mustang. The D'Angelico is nice but it's pretty much a jazz only guitar with that setup. The cheaper Epiphones and Gretsch's look and feel like shit with the laurel fretboards, would never buy one desu. If that Gretsch is one of the rosewood fretboard models that would be a good choice too.

Can't go wrong with a Japanese Fender though. They've never not been good.

hello I’ve only ever dealt with combo amps. if I get a 15w tube head and a 150w 1x10 cab (8 ohm) does the head power the cab completely? or is it two 120v cables

yes, you want the head to be weaker than the cab actually. make sure the ohms match too.

>>
here's some rhythm guitar, anyone want to do a solo over it?
https://voca.ro/1fWJxHcjiQvv
>>
>>128897251
they’re pretty good. if you roll the tone all the way off it’s basically a giant wall of sub bass tone. tone all the way open it’s kind of got a really ethereal mid rangey sound. you can make them work in a mix but there is nothing else that sounds like them. probably not good for slapping because the pickup is in the way but great with a pick. I’ve had one and the Gibson sg
https://youtu.be/QR8iHakKiro
>>
>>128897323
what’s weird is that all basses kind of sound the same if you go direct into a daw
>>
>>128896822
nope. there isn't enough wood between the bridge post and pickup route, the trem posts are screwed directly into the wood instead of using bushings
>>
>>128897408
actually it does look like shipping damage. if the post split the wood the split would be larger on the side of the post. instead it’s larger on the outside like it got hit
>>
>>128895843
do that a few more times and one day you can sell the guitar as relic'd
>>
>>128897456
it wasn't there when he got the guitar, it developed over time due to the stress of string tension. the post was leaning. Music Man made him send the guitar back. they made a new body with the tremolo further away from the pickup route and they moved the nut to accommodate intonation.
>>
>anon who watched the video vs anon talking out of his ass
I skimmed to the important part and it took 1 minute to see that the guitar had a flawed design
>>
>>128897535
well yeah tremolos are gay
>>
>>128897251
I played one extensively. Really bad neckdive. Squier P Bass is better
>>
>>128897551
The voice has natural vibrato and "fluttering". That's why it's good for a guitar too. But if you don't want it, that's cool too. It's just that the guitar is awesome for covering so many bases. And that's not even mentioning effects. Slides, bends, taps, chords or single notes, vibrato, plucking the string, picking the string, slapping the string, snapping the string, scraping the string...
>>
The guitar is midranged while the voice is vocal ranged
>>
>>128897981
They're both in the midranges. Probably not exactl, but that's generally why rosewood guitars are kind of popular for singer songwriters, since it's a bit more scooped sounding.
Not that I give a shit, since I like mahogany more.
>>
>>128897251

>>128897087
Some are, some aren’t. I find the ones that are either peak boutique or threshold of boutique are worth it. For example threshold being certain JHS pedals, and peak being something like the Wombtone or extremely small batch stuff like the Progress 250+. I will indulge in certain ones purely for the aesthetic, like this Muff 2. I could have waited for the nano but this just looks better and I have room for it. I was expecting it to be just another Muff but it’s beefier and has more clarity than any other Muff. I’ll be interested to demo the nano and see just how identical they are. It’s a crapshoot unless you can find a video with a very similar rig to your own. I knew this Muff would pair well with my Mig 50 though, whereas it wouldn’t shine nearly as well on a smaller SS amp.

and I also have a champ 25se that sounds way clearer and twangier. I uses 2x 6L6 for the output and has a bigger cab better speaker. it's probably not as loud as the bjr, seems like a lower sensitivity speaker.
the spring reverb sounds better on the bjr and it has tube overdrive but the champ's speaker/cab is just plain better. and yes I've hooked the bjr into the champ speaker, sounded good

If not clean it’ll be through a host of fuzzes and delays. I almost never use the dirty channel because built in overdrives always suck. Just need a good pedal platform mostly.

This one is, I believe, from the 80s. It’s a slightly older brother to the jazz chorus apparently

Glibson arrived safe from the North Pole, but can't say the same about the Ribson hard smell case. Looks like it took an arrow to the knee. Big YIKES! Thankfully my Sweetwalter representative is going to refund me $100 CAD. He's also sending me 3 free packs of strings - Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, the best strings money can by.

I just picked up a 2012 Gibson les paul classic custom in natural in mint condition last month and when I pulled it out of the case and plugged into my Marshall. This was the first song I played. Ace was the sole (solo) reason Kiss became what they were. Gene and paul combined didn't have half of Ace's talent. Thanks Ace for all the great rock and roll, for the inspiration to play guitar and for being one of the coolest rock soldiers ever! \m/

I know I'm Gen z. But I cannot deny that Kiss is one of my favorite bands ever. They've been a part of me since I was a kid. It brings back so many good memories from my childhood. Especially this live version of this song.

And now as a teenager. Who plays guitar and is about to graduate from high school, I can proudly say that one of my greatest inspirations is Ace Frehley. Definitely the best Kiss member. And one of the greatest guitarists to ever live. Ace will and forever be my favorite kiss member.

I may be into heavy metal bands like Pantera, Black Label Society, Sepultura, Slayer and Lamb of god. I'll always say that Kiss is definitely the top 5 for my favorite bands!

don't fall for the generation meme, its only applicable to the last century or so since culture and media changed so rapidly. before that people all listened to the same music. maybe some youngins would have a hoe-down with fiddles that the old folks would call devil music but for the most part its a modern phenomenon. good music is timeless.

I didn't mention which guitar it was, been playing it all afternoon and really liking it. its not the kind of guitar i ever imagined myself owning or even liking desu, but I tried one out last week in guitarcenter and was blown away, I used to shit on Gibson (and still do), but I'm happy. Overpriced? Yeah, but so is everything else these days. Anyway, about the case, they wanted to me send back the guitar as well for a full exchange, which I thought was fucking retarded, so I got them to refund me $100 and I'm just gonna slap a sticker over the gash and move on with my life, thats what those cases are for anyway.

Stretching it in the stringing process seems to be the culprit. I have to be careful.
I don't seem to be alone. That's what hex cores were invented for apparently...to give the wrapping more grip and dig into the corners.

Dawn comes in quiet out here.
Not the polite kind of quiet more like the land’s holding its breath. I see him before the sun clears the ridge. He’s walking slow, boots talking to the dirt like they got history together. Horse is already awake, steam lifting off it like it knows something’s about to happen. Man stops beside the saddle, doesn’t rush it. Reaches into his pocket, pulls a cigarette like it’s part of the ritual.
Strike.
Flame flares up, cuts a little hole in the morning. He leans into it, lights up, takes a drag, lets the smoke drift out sideways like he’s painting the air. That cigarette’s not for nerves it’s punctuation. A pause between yesterday and whatever comes next.
He swings up easy, settles in like he belongs there. Reins in one hand, guitar case strapped behind him like a promise. No crowd, no destination worth naming. Just open land and a song that hasn’t figured itself out yet.
They move off as the sun finally decides to show its face. Hooves keeping time. Wind doing harmony. Somewhere down the trail he’ll stop, pull that guitar out, and play something soft and honest wood and wire talking back to the hills.
Nobody’s gonna hear it but the horse and the morning.
And that’s exactly how he wants it.
