Why the fuck do people still buy Fender these days. I just took delivery of a picrel and it's a dumpster-fire. Everything I see from them these days is half-assed, always has issues. Even examples they use for some of their own promo pics have badly cut nuts, fucked up string spacing or something.

Fender is only good for the Strat lets be real. The others like the Telecaster are just to fit in, in music scenes where those are mainstream like in Midwest Emo or Math rock, etc.
Anyhow even then... There is a lot of Strat clones out there that sound just as good. And are way cheaper too.

Hey, /mu/. I was wondering what a decent low-mid/mid shelf bass guitar would be? Musicman? Squire? Ibanez?
I somewhat recently recorded around 15 songs and want to go back and remaster them with bass since I didn't have one when I started recording.

This was the last song I recorded and while it specifically could work without bass, I have a number of other songs that could definitely benefit.

>>128987502
obviously very sloppy and a little rigid in places like the other anon said, but there’s obvious creativity and good musical intuitions here in places. it’s cool how you make the weird mode make melodic sense, are you Middle Eastern or Balkan or something?

basically, you’re talented but you’re not very good (yet).

reminds me a little of those trance-y psych-y freak folk bands like Ak'chamel. with some primitive drums and a whiny drone you could potentially make something cool as hell.
>>
>>128987705
i wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s not talented but what you’re hearing is a result of just trying to feel the time and not actually practicing to a click/drums. there’s no muscle memory for the fingers to fall back on when trying to play partial sextuplets
>>
>>128987300
I got one of the Dunlop coiled cables recently and it was half the price. The problem is if you’re running it to a pedal then it’s going to yank it off your board even if you have hood Velcro. I wish they made them a bit longer

>>128987705

>Middle Eastern or Balkan or something?
nah, I’m Irish, but I do listen to a lot of “world” music etc so maybe that’s bleed through into my notions of what sounds good

>Ak'chamel
I’ve listened to them a little and they’re really cool, that’s sort of the vibe I was going for. I’m a big Six Organs fan but I guess they’re usually more mellow/delicate than whatever this is.
>>
>>128986975
I'm learning a good amount from this course when it comes to improv. I'm having an easier time with making stuff up in minor keys. I think it sounds cooler cause it's darker so I usually am only practicing my improv in minor. Not sure I'll be a super creative bassist but I'll definitely be better off when I'm finished.
>>
>>128987906
np it’s one of the more interesting things I’ve listened to on /gg/. I don’t even think it’s a skill issue; I’m sure you can get those legato phrases down in a day or two. I think it’s a brain being out of sync with the hands thing which I think is what metronome practice is good for
>>128987923
Hell yeah man. theres no way you won’t come out better having finished it. I’m at this shitty point where I know what and how to do but I’m banging my head against a wall when it comes to composition because I’m ignoring everyone’s advice and trying to create from nothing. the advice is “steal from the greats” so I finally listened and have been taking lines that work but changing just one aspect of it (harmony/melody/rhythm) and trying to internalize it. I’ll see where it gets me in a month

I looked at the rock crusher and Fryette and ended up going with this TK Ironman II as the upgrade from my cheap Chinee attenuator. The difference is stark, my amp sounds so much better through this thing. I have some spare power tubes so I’m going to relax a bit and let it stretch its legs out a bit more. It sounds so good up past 7-8, and the Ironman comes with a foot switch to toggle solo mode which boosts volume quite a bit depending on where the settings are at. Credit to Sweetwater, I hit the buy button on this yesterday at 2:00 and it was on my doorstep less than 20 hours later via free shipping. It came through FedEx, so I think I’ve become a bit of a Sweetwater Whale..

an Epiphone j45 or hummingbird is too bright for these strings. Monels are even brighter than 80/20 bronze; these strings are great on a new d18/d28 because they are quite dark guitars anyway. it balances them out; it’s actually what they originally used up until pb strings were invented some time around the 80s

I had a chicom guitar with a blue sparkle finish with two quadbuckers where you could split the quads into single combos called a ZZ Ryder. I just looked it up, I guess it was a model used by Frampton lol? It had three strap buttons so you could strap it to a motorcycle seat back.

in my experience of owning at least half of a dozen of mia and overseas guitars, the quality control is no better than anywhere else on the whole. mia instruments you get qc issues on hand-finished things like nuts, finish, gibson fret nibs. its very sad, unfortunate and should not be the case but that is the reality of having intimately involved manufacturing process and you hire drug-addled baboons off the street. overseas guitars have their own problems like fret sprout, needing neck shims, set neck angles, twisted necks, bridges that dont even function--some manufacturers are better than others even though made in the same country. epiphones are worse than squeirs, martin and ibanez are the worst etc. part of the difference is what people are willing to put up with paying $2500 for an instrument versus $400 and when there is a problem it's "ship it back to us we'll fix it" versus "lmao just pull another off the shelf." the other reality is that $3000 is the entry level for an american instrument; for something built by a small team with exacting qc you need to spend at least $4000-6000. my mia fender has an issue where the strings are hitting the fretboard behind the nut where it breaks over and is very annoying, but at least it stays perfectly in tune regardless of the temperature and weather and didnt need a neck shim unlike any of the 10 mx/mi fenders ive had but just like i could buy a squier and change the tuners, i can also fix any problems my mia has.
>>
>>128990021
they most certainly do not, just as all strings and picks don't sound the same on an acoustic. however, you can adjust your attack to make them all sound relatively close to eachother
>>
>>128990096
if you listen to them directly side by side maybe you can hear a difference. in practicality the differences are negligible. especially in a mix.
>>
>>128990135
I wouldn’t argue that entirely but a large percentage of acoustic guitars are played unaccompanied

Fret sprout and a neck shin are both things I’m more than qualified to take care of, even on guitars with a good fret job, a lot of times I want a better crown on them than how they ship with so I’m going to touch them up regardless. I’ll take that over crooked necks, extreme finish blemishes and some of the other egregious flaws I’ve seen on MIA Fenders in the last few years. If a Jap gets caught letting something like that past QC they get fired, if Paco or Miguel let’s it past then they just get strike 17 and a pat on the ass

you couldn’t differentiate them in a double blind test. there are subtle variations like the tuning of the string, inductance of the pickups, and how the string is plucked that make an A/B test impossible to replicate.

For some reason whenever I turn on the bass micro synth pedal, my audio cuts out then comes back when i hold a note. I think it has something to do with the darkglass amp but I'm not sure what's causing it. On the markbass amp it doesnt happen and even when I bypass the darkglass settings and have it just come through with no processing it's still happening. Going to keep tinkering to see if I can figure it out.

hey stinky little beaner man. I’ll reduce this to some fine bouillon powder so your brain can absorb it for you to stew on. there are a hundred different things that can make two guitars sound different. the height of the pickups, how the intonation is set, the height of the pickups, the size of the room you play in, even standing in front of your amp vs beside it changes the frequency of what you hear. least of all is going to be the serial number on two guitars with identical specs.

sorry let me clarify. the difference not being one is an sg and one is a les paul. the difference being two identical pickups and two identical pots and capacitors could have a variance of up to 20% which will cause them to sound barely perceptibly different, not even to speak of stacking tolerances

I've got a Firefly LP and a Solo LPK-10TB DIY kit. The Solo kit is cheaper and has a thinner neck and fretboard than the firefly and is also lighter than the firefly. I find it easier to play than the Firefly LP.

How do I get the 2026 tone?
>>
>>128991269
Ergonomics.
That aside SGs have a bit different pickup placement, closer to the bridge. Electronics being the same an SG will have less bass and more mids than a Les Paul. This is typically perceived as SGs having a less "boomy", more "defined" neck and more "biting" bridge tone.
>>
>>128994528
you take those scooped mids and add some back in post eq. not too much though.
>>
I always, always, always end up cutting 200 Hz by ~6 dB first thing in the signal chain after my guitar.
Is it possible to do right in the guitar without active electronics?
I don't know shit about electronics beyond Ohm's law but I know that passive subtractive EQs and notch filters exist.
I asked Copilot and that nigger told me that basically no it's not really feasible to do in the guitar because of inductivity or impedance or some shit and offered to kill everything below a threshold with a bass cut capacitor mod instead.

cutting everything below 200 would be referred to as a low shelf. anything with a parametric eq should work but it won’t be just 200hz it’ll be a small band around it. I think most are 100-125, 200-250 and 500 etc so it should smooth out this whole peak. sorry for being lazy it’s the first thing I could find
