Sometimes when I play certain guitars, I pull the string off the edge of the fret by accident. So I came up with a new invention. You could solder just like a teeny tiny nub at the edge of the fret that keeps the string from falling off. Am I a genius? Someone should make this.

It's probably not that much of an impressive improvement, I don't usually practice with the metronome but the last time I tried to go as fast as possible the best I could do was 180, which must've been a year ago. Now I'm blowing past the 200s, all clean and pushing the 350s. Learning entire songs is worth the grind, it's good practice.

I was a 10's guy because as a kid, I had a shitty guitar and broke strings so avoided 'light gauge' because I figured they'd break more
It was a decision I made when I was like 13 that damned me to years and years of making guitar playing harder than it should be
>>
>>129013955
drive describes the action of my dick going into your mom while pregain is when I wish I had met her

>>
>>129014106
you're in luck! I know how to use the duck duck go
pre-amp determines the strength of the signal as it goes into the amp
drive controls the degree of signal distortion
>>
Reminder not to put your solid-state amp in vertical mode because the heat will cascade over the circuit board and cook it out in about 3-4months. If it didn't come with feet installed on the end, don't put it on the end.

The tone and volume knobs have some clearance above the pickguard on my guitar. Is this a design choice? I've never had a Strat style guitar, so I have nothing to compare it to.
>>
Anyone else here tried singing? Its fucking hard man, harder than any instrument I've learned. You can be on pitch and in time and still sound like shit because you've got bad tone and that takes months - years to develop
>>
>>129014924
Why couldn't I be one of those children who sang since they were young. All the music I write is instrumental and I hate that. I hate it because in order to make instrumental music, it really has to be captivating and amazing. When you have vocals, you can get away with repetitive or minimalist arrangements.
>>
>>129014937
I feel the same way. I really wish I sang as a kid. I'm gonna stick with sounding like shit and drifting off pitch occasionally and all the other discouraging stuff though cause I really want to be able to sing. I learned to sing and play guitar at the same time, thinking it'd be easy to sing some Bob Dylan or something, then I recorded myself and oh god it was awful.

Using dye vs grease makes a huge difference. The grease takes a lot longer to be absorbed. Example dye in pic, it's the same fretboard before and after dye.

One thing is be sure to use non water based dye as the water based can rub up fast and won't be water resistant

using shit with beeswax in it will make your fretboard feel like a million bucks though

That position actually makes sense for ambient since it lets the strings vibrate freely and plays up the sympathetic resonance and the vibrato lets you fuck with the pitch/frequency en masse
>>
You can always layer the beeswax over it but also be aware of increasing combustibility as you add more chemicals to wood.

I am still bummed out. Hearing the acoustic buzz when the amp sound isn't overpowering sucks.
I have adjusted the truss rod and the relief is at 0.006. Will adjusting it again with bigger relief allow me to get rid of the buzz and set the action lower? Is relief tied to string action/buzzing?

Lol, name 1 good 88 key midi keyboard that is as good as a cheap electric guitar. Around the 150$ range or below. This statement is delusional.

It can be, it can also be uneven frets, or it can be that you lowered your strings too much.

no typically it will cause more buzzing. try setting it to no relief and raising the action slightly. removing relief already lowers action

Pretty much this image. If the buzzing is near the 9-1th fret the neck needs relief so that it lowers, if the buzz is in the 4-5 frets you need to tighten the neck so that the neck is straight.

Please answer my question. Where are you finding those good cheap keyboards. I don't get it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aIwvPxitjU
this is like around the best cheap MIDI keys on the market and please dont suggest a key range lower than 88 keys, its slop.
Face it guitars are cheaper. You got Yamaha, Donner, Glarry strat clones, its slop (except Yamaha) but it will work out. With a Keyboard I dont know if it will even turn on if I cheap out too much.
So point me to a good MIDI 88 keyboard that will work as intended and I can use synth emulators with bc idk what u talking about.

>In all honesty though if it doesn't ring out in amp I'd just leave as is.
For some reason I'm obsessed with the perfect setup, with no buzzing at all and acceptable low action. If my cheap guitar could achieve that, so should this one.

>>129017151
>>129017134
I will watch those and see if I can make some tweaks. I followed the usual advice of adjusting truss rod, string height, intonation and thought if I just set everything up to the recommended values that the guitar shouldn't have any of those issues.

Unrelated, but I had the Keystation 61 and sold it. I wanted something with 88 keys and better Ableton Live integration, so I settled for a Launchkey 88. It was around 400€. Yesterday I tried an actual piano for the first time in my life and now I'm not sure if I can go back to semi-weighted keys. I haven't tried playing a synth with those, but I can imagine it's not ideal.

It's buzzing around the nut.
>9 times out of 10 it’s uneven frets
I did the fret rocker test and some are indeed uneven, but it's the higher frets (from 12th onwards). Someone said in this thread that it's normal for the fret-rocker to move and that one cannot check if the frets are even that way on a "guitar that's set-up", but I didn't really believe that after checking online.

I managed to fix some buzzing and uneven frets on my cheap acoustic by hitting them in with one of those soft head hammers. I'm worried about doing it on my new guitar before I exhaust everything else. Perhaps my setup is indeed bad. The only downside is that I've also read that truss-rod adjustments sometimes take hours to apply properly and I hate having to wait that long between the steps.
>>
>>129015982
Thnx, Anon.
>>
>>129017453
it’s possible I suppose if you’re making large relief adjustment. when you fret the 2nd fret is there space between the first fret and the string? if there is and it’s still buzzing at the but, okay every open string while lightly pressing on the back side of the string past the nut with your finger. if it goes away the nut slot needs to be ramped on the back side with a file or some sandpaper. think of the string break over as a pyramid where both sides are vibrating. you only want the string contacting the breakover ledge, if the pyramid is uneven the string could be lightly touching it in more than one place and causing buzzing

Based Philly McKnight said something prescient about cars in his last podcast, and I'd like to share my thoughts. He was talking about how modern cars stop their engines at red lights and restart them when you proceed after the light turns green, and how this causes him severe anxiety from past trauma of being poor and having his car break down in traffic. Even if/when he knows its going to happen, when the car engine shuts off his stomach reflexively sinks in his belly, as if he's going to need a stranger's help to push the car out of the road and into a parkinglot.
I think this mirrors my thoughts on guitar relics. I grew up in the age when you took care of your shit, especially your prized possessions, and scratches, dents, and scuffs on a guitar were shameful errors. You'd ask for a discount in a shop for the smallest fault in the clearcoat, and the owner would give it to you, because the guitar had a clear and obvious fault. I think my stomach sinks in my belly when I see a relic because I think the owner got ripped off on a jar of snake oil by a less-than-scrupulous seller. It's an instinctual reflex.
Natural, honest relicking is based, but just isn't the norm anymore. It's 95% fake, upcharged, wool-over-your-eyes stolen valour.
>>
>>129017309
>I'm obsessed with the perfect setup

Sadly with the nature of wood the best you can do is good enough.

After you adjust the truss rod there is a settling in period -- so tomorrow AM your neck will be different than today.

open string buzzing can sometimes be cured with string trees. if it's the strings that have the most distance between the nut and the machine head, then chances are you need a string tree
buzzing on both open and fretted strings can be caused by loose machine heads or screws. Screws that like to be loose are intonation, machine head and bridge height screws.

Too late. I ruined the guitar.
I mapped out every rocking fret, there's a shitload of them (picture related). I thought that pushing the most offending fret (the one where the feeler gauge even slides underneath it) might fix it. I hit it a few times with my fret hammer, but didn't remove the strings (only pushed them to the side). The steel frets are slightly roughed up where the strings were. That's not that bad, but now I get an even more prominent buzz there.

I bought this guitar a day ago and now I'm having a nervous breakdown. I can't return it because I don't have the original packaging and I've modified it by changing the strings to rule out bad strings as a cause. I'm considering sudoku now.

I did this with my bootleg PRS. I kept pushing the buzzing spots higher up the neck, only to find frets I'd already hammered were now high.
I got myself a notched straight edge and a 9" leveling beam. I made sure the neck was straight (I had done a pretty good job of this before I got the straight edge), marked the high frets with permanent marker, then took the beam to them. It fixed the buzz.
Of course I also had to replace the strings I beat with a hammer

It happened. Again. I spent New Years with some old college buddies at the lake house, and left my twin sons Dana and Lindsey home alone. They're both 19-22 years old, that shouldn't be a problem... or so I thought.
The boys apparently had a get together with some college buddies and got into some beers on New Years and blacked out, and in their stupor, the young men wound up using my acoustic guitars as urinals.
I just got home and picked up my Martin that was leaning against the wall. the first thing I noticed is it was heavy. I sat on my practice stool and put her in my lap. It was warm and damp on my leg, and I could feel the weight shifting and hear the sounds of the urine sloshing around inside. To make sure, I held the guitar up over my head and looked up into the soundhole. A gallon of stale, days old urine and some cigarette butts and beer caps poured onto my unsuspecting face.
I made my away across the room, testing each of my acoustics the same way. The Gibson, Ovation, Yamaha, Seagull, Alvarez. Some of them even had doo doo in them.
