I'll have to look. I don't think it's there but I prefer my pedal anyway so I can add chorus or reverb to the distortion instead of distorting the chorus/reverb going into the amp. I figured i wouldn't use the omicron setting on the amp before I bought it

>>
Beginner here, how long did it take you to be able to play songs? I've seen people on the Internet saying that they were able to play songs after like 2, 3 weeks of learning the guitar. I'm on week 7 and I can play the chord progression to one song at 60 bpm and keep the strumming pattern but it sounds like shit still. Are people actually playing songs after 3 weeks of practicing? Am I just slow?
>>
>>129037939
hell yeah. if you only watch one thing watch “couldn’t stand the weather” from the 1989 Austin city limits concert
>>
>>129037958
LP Customs in black or white are easily the best looking gibsons
I am not a fan of most "bursts"
>>
>>129037992
depends on how crappy the song is but it took me 6+ months to get half decent at chord changes and another 3 for bar chords. I could play fast alternate picking solos long before I got decent at chords. ymmv
>>
>>129037992
Look friend, I'm going to level with you. If you really want to be good you have to do cocaine.

Jk.

But really, you are fine. Everyone learns at a different pace. Ky recommendation is to get a real teacher. Even if its just a couple lessons. Having a teacher to correct your ergonomics in the beginning will pay dividends. Do it. Once you have good ergonomics, you can learn online but id still recommend a teacher

All you really need is
- EQ
- Distortion
- Reverb
- Chorus
- Delay
- Volume pedal

Whenever I see someone with a monster pedal board its almost always to compensate for their lack of interesting musical ideas. There are a few exceptions, sure.

Your compressor would work better with a clean tone and some chorus, no overdrive. Are you using a daisy chain power supply for the pedals? Those usually add shit loads of noise especially with Boss pedals.

Any thoughts on Godin guitars? I was looking at one of their 5th Avenue archtops as an affordable, non-third world option. I have a Seagull acoustic, which plays very nicely but is just kind of meh as far as sound goes.
>>
>>129040100
well the seagull is acoustic the 5th ave is electric. I can’t speak on their quality but those are two very different guitars. I’m guessing that model uses a dog ear p90. it’s probably going to sound very middle of the road being so close to the neck and very noisy if that’s fully hollow

>>129040100

Its an electric, the only thing that "matters" are the electronics and you can always swap those out.

What’s the deal with gear snobs?
You show them your rig and they don’t listen
they inspect.
“Ohhh… you’re using that pedal?”
Yeah! It makes sound!
Isn’t that the whole program?!
They don’t ask what you play.
They ask what year it’s from.
“What revision is the circuit?”
I don’t know!
It was on the floor and it worked!
And everything you own is “almost right.”
“Great guitar
shame about the pickups.”
Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I brought this over for grading.
And they always end with,
“But hey, if it works for you…”
That’s not support that’s mercy!
Meanwhile, you hear them play and it’s the same three blues licks
they’ve been perfecting since 1994…
through five thousand dollars of equipment.

Nice.
Not knowing what you are going for I will still offer constructive criticism:
It is too 'samey' all the way through. There is not enough change between sections to give the song a sense of going somewhere. The chorus, verse, bridge thing works for many reasons. One is because it takes the listener away for a bit then reestablishs your main musical idea making it sound stronger. Some ways of doing that: change the drum pattern. You can simply go from 1/8ths on the hats to 1/4s on the ride or something similar. Going from riff A to riff B on the guitar... going from a riff to a chord... going to a different tonal center, key, chord for the chorus. Choruses are more powerful when you go up.
I like your voice, your guitar, etc. The song starts off well, and it just doesn't build or take me anywhere. And I want it to.

>NRA
BBA has a point in that he’s got some redundant gear, but it’s redundant great gear plus bases are covered regardless. He’s got great amps and is a Princeton Chad.
>Carvin/Explorer Anon
He’s got great guitars and a great amp, and he’s an older Anon with legitimate experience playing festivals. He belongs in the current /gg/ pantheon of good players.
>Rosewood Tele Anon
He’s got great guitars that cover a lot of bases with some redundant ones, but he’s said his multiples are in alternate tunings so that’s excusable. He’s got a very nice hand wired boutique amp from one of the OG boutique amp builders, and he’s also a Princeton Chad.
>Fiesta Fred
He has the most redundant gear of everyone you mentioned. How many of the same offsets does he have? But they’re good models of the guitars even if they’re redundant. He’s an Electro Harmonix Chad which is a big plus.

Everyone you mentioned including BBA has great gear. It doesn’t need to be a contest between them. Good gear is cool.

i would have a line of 335, 345,355 if i could. but they arent affordable guitars.
everyone of my guitars is american made. none of my fenders are mexican or even japanese. (though i wouldnt mind owning a mij)
the reason i got these guitars first is because of how much cheaper they are than my dream guitar the 335.
i use only high quality instruments as well.

i was considering buying pic related for 7 grand. but decided 2 guitars was better than one. and got a MIA JM and 335

>>
bba's hands are too soft and weak to play acoustic
>>
>>129041364
Honestly I’d love a 335 someday but I’d want to play one in person first. I’ve never seen one I’ve been able to pick up and play before. There’s a used Heritage 535 locally I’ve been thinking about trading toward and I’m sure it’s a fine guitar but part of me feels it’ll feel like I should have just bought a proper 335 instead of a Heritage. Cool gear rarely pops up locally so it’s cool to see the 535 tho, and that makes it tempting because it’s extra convenient vs ordering online
>>
>>129041380
they’re ok. I like that they’re actually comfortable like an acoustic but they just feel cheap and flimsy. no one could tell the difference between a solid body and semi hollow in a blind test if they both had microphones pickups. the way gibson builds them does not justify the price tag tho
>>
>>129041377
335s are better than les pauls. Lighter, more versatile. when i had 6 electrics the 335 would be the one i played the most often at jams and gigs. now that i've bought this. this cheaper more affordable replacement will become my main guitar.
if you can get a 335 get one. they are one of the most original and unique guitars you can get considering nobody can afford to play them.

nobody in /gg/ apart from me owns one. theres a guy with an es-175 single cutaway tho.
>>129041400
they do not feel cheap at all. unless you've played some shitty ones. the qc is higher on 335s than other gibsons anyway
>>
the:"writer is the protag and is probably writing the book" thing is a bit corny, but I'm liking the city of glass, still I'm pretty early into the book.
>>
>>129041400
He’s asking $2k for it but I could easily trade one guitar plus around $500 for it and I’m sure I’d like it, but I’d hate to give up a guitar for it only to feel like I should have just bought an actual Gibson instead.

Saw you guys talking about your favorite guitarists earlier in the thread, so I thought I'd mention one that I think is very underrated, and that's Doug Aldrich. He had an 80's (I think) band called Lion, but then he went to play with Whitesnake in the 90's, and then he played with Dio after that. I think his best work was with Dio. Doug has a play-style that's probably comparable to Zakk Wylde - fast pentatonic alternate picking and pinch harmonics, but he also has blazing legato runs too, and I generally find his playing to be more tasteful than Zakk's. Doug's tone is also fucking massive.

You can get a good idea of his soloing from Don't Talk to Strangers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wangz9tfaRM
And you can hear how massive his tone can get on Rainbow in the Dark

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kY3FO6zIUE
You can watch the full concert here (in 1080p) if you want to see more
