>>129074890I too miss when mu was focused on music
>>129074824it was fun but the amount of free shilling done by the actual artists (death grips, car seat headrest, brave little abacus) that you fell for is kind of embarrassing.
>>129074824i'm glad that fewer people give a shit about mu-core
>>129074890The third-world gaining access to the Internet is the BIGGEST first-world problem. Great that they have this resource, but they fucking ruined it for everyone else. https://youtu.be/bmfR9r1oSrw
>>129075118Who cares if they were actually underground and people responded positively to the music? Its better than major labels shilling their pop stars or ecelebs begging for clicks in the catalog
this board is a deserted wasteland and I’m all for it.
>>129075158Then leave dickhead
>find obscure artist>try to talk about them here>crickets>look them up on the archive>find threads from 2012 with anons and tripfags having quality discussions about themThe level of knowledge that posters back then had and the fluency that they wrote with is incomprehensible. People cope by dismissing old /mu/ as Death Grips spam and indie landfill, but the real quality of the board was how you could find any random unknown shit and share it here and find people to discuss it with.
id rather have 10 dumbfuck COA threads than a single woke rap unironic praise thread like you clowns used to have here.
>>129075965Kill yourself
>>129074824It was much easier to find community and have sincere conversations over the internet in general in the early 2010s. Irony and hostility have killed discourse, and when you add algorithmic music discovery to the mix, you get the death of /mu/.>This is the part where you spam me with nostalgiaslop soijaks.
>>129075992I'm so sad that I never maintained any of my friendships that I made here back in those days. I'll never meet genuine weirdos like that again.

>>129075819Okay share some artists if you want :D
>>129076189No. Current year /mu/ posters don't deserve my shares
>>129074824I have been here since the board was created and I like it as it is now the most. It was too chaotic and /b/-like when it was fast. Less people is good.
>>129076259I haven't been here very long, only since like 2013 or so, but it sucks now. I haven't actually seen, heard or read anything interesting on here in a very long time. It's too shitposty now and the culture is gone.
>>129074824>>129074890>>129075118>>129075819I've been posting on this board since 2011. I even knew one of the tripfags in real life as we both went to college together. I abandoned my old trip that I hardly used and went anon for most of my postings. This board was never that great to begin with even during the /mu/core era. Sure, it was fast as fuck and threads were constant, but people who wanted to discuss music were always drowned out by shitposters and status signalers seeking to leverage their tastes against others. The endless "METAL IS FOR CHILDREN" and gorespam almost made this place unusable if you listened to anything too heavy for the resident nu-males. It started to ease up a little by 2013-2014, but even then, good discussions were the exception rather than the norm. The hack was far more devastating than anons are willing to admit. Necessity forced those who avoided Discord and Reddit for years into those spaces, and upon discovering a core group of associates to share media with, they settled in new communities and never returned. This is true for every board except maybe /pol/ and /int/, who instead posted on the sharty and Krautchan then came back.
>>129075819>the real quality of the board was how you could find any random unknown shit and share it here and find people to discuss it with. This literally never happened by the way. OP is gaslighting everyone with his imaginary version of /mu/.
>>129076282>the hackThe hack happened like 10 years after this board fell into a steep decline>metal and gorespamFair enough this wasn't a great board for metal fans>shitposters and status signalersUnderneath the shitpost and status threads however there were great discussions and share threads and you could discover new music. >>129076317Maybe you're just a fucking retard who wasted all of his time in his NMH meme threads. My music library is full of interesting shit that I got from posters here.
>>129076320>Underneath the shitpost and status threads however there were great discussions and share threads and you could discover new music. Current /mu/ has nothing going on at allTell me about it. Just check out this thread. A handful of good responses and a deluge of shitposts:>>129070810
Man just went back in the archive after seeing this thread and looked up my city and found people that I knew and bands that I saw live posting and being posted about here. Weird feeling. I didn't realize /mu/ was so big that the average indie scenester was using it.
>>129076961Sharethreads were a big draw for outsiders.
>>129074890Idk, the pleb/patrician thing was gay too it was just less gay comparatively
>>129074824I mean, you have to admit, the algos are really good, perhaps more so if your taste is developed and curated. The spotify-IS-my-taste crowd are pretty fortunate because they gently get curated more stuff they'll like without really having to take risk with experimentation or set aside time to find more music they like. I've even asked various LLM across various stages of development for music suggestions and was surprised at how useful they could be for any one really! Now if you're neither of those, I.E. -you have strong aversions to most popular music or stuff/scenes not being zombified on TikTok -but you still don't have a strong enough feel/idea for the type of music you actually love or aren't even aware there might even be an entire subgenre or micro-scene quite LITERALLY, ACTUALLY made for you(as was the case for me)...This place won't be the legendary, sketchy amusement park of musical discovery it felt it was for me and many others over a decade ago for me. This place is a complete waste of time if you fall into the latter group and I don't have any suggestions that can help feel yourself out of that alienating experience boundary. If I came here fresh off le boat as my (2013)self in 2026, I'd just end up leaving wondering how a dedicated music board like this has worse taste than reddit, wikipedia-crate-diggers, and even fucking TikTok!
>>129077359The algo only gets you so far. It can continue mining a similar vein to the one you're already on but it doesn't throw you left field recommendations that open you to something new. I've been having a lot of success with radio. I look up artists I enjoy on radio playlists and find lots of interesting stuff that I otherwise never would.
>>129077487>left field recommendationsLooking back, those type of reccs and the variety of sharethreads at their peak were invaluable! Also, the annoying retards that insisted upon their taste, presence, or tisms so much to the point you decided to check out what they were harping on to dress-them-down only to find...some of them...were on to something. It was a lot of fun and I remember becoming so familiar with the habits and personalities of a few, I would bait them with posts or even troll music-charts with personalized selections that would ragebait, for whatever stupid reason it would for them....I was on here a lot.
>>129075234>great they have this resourceYeah thank God they can access actual humans to scam and shit up their platforms. Drop a fucking insecticide bomb on that place, sterilize these fucking hellspawn
>>129078024Ah. Thank you for nostalgia posting with me. Your experience sounds very similar to mine. I will now go to sleep content.
>>129078051I only come for the "WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW????"I really like those threads because ppl really do seem to post what they're currently listening too.Despite knowing a great deal more than I did when I was posting here constantly, I now have next to no desire to post about much of anything. Not a bad feeling at all, I(2013Me) would have figured it would be the other way around or something.Good night, anon.
>>129074824Be the change you seek
>>129078154You need people first
This board has really gone to shit. Even over the past 5 years, the dropoff has been staggering. Whenever I want to talk about music here now, I usually just make a thread on /tv/ instead, the discussion ends up being much more livelier and more insightful as opposed to if I made the same thread here. I’m not even kidding. Is /mu/ and our community salvageable, or are we past the point of no return?
>>129082151It's never coming back. The original population is long gone and has been replaced by tourists and the culture has evaporated.
>>129082151>>129082342Pretty much. The original posters all left and we're what remains.
>>129076317Lying faggot, this board was immeasurably better 15 years ago
>>129076320>wasn't a great board for metal fansYep. This place was effectively for nu-males only.
>>129082483First of all >implying meal was foodSecond of all the internet and even the real world is full of places to discuss metal, even avant black metal recorded in 64kbps because metal has one of the strongest and most consistent communities in all of music. The internet is not thriving with alternative places for me to go to discuss gamelan or freefolk albums.
Sometimes I'm jealous of the guys in Kpop general who have all been jerking off together for 15 years, oblivious to the decline of the board around them
>>129082634Truth. I kinda respect waifufags for being blind to everything around them and just enjoying their weird ass niche interests.

>>129085748Oh fuck, I'm on /mu/. I did a stupid. Yeah, old /mu/ was also better. Namefags for days but people actually fucking listened to music. Plastic Beach and MBDTF breaking the board was fun.

Not going to turn this thread into political shitflinging but kind of seems like trannies and nu-males were better at talking about music than rightoids.
>>129085881NTA, but any kind of art/creativity usually requires some level of mental illness, so it checks out.
>>129085930The average /pol/ user is certainly a fine specimen of mental health
>>129085944We are not, but compared to any form of leftie/r3dditor - yes, absolutely.
>>129085881/mu/ was never like reddit and we used the r word as an insult constantly during that era. I also remember when r/indieheads tried making their own /mu/core chart in like 2018 which was a total plagiarism of our 10 year old chart. Youre also lying about /mu/ being some liberal safe haven back then when this board was completely apolitical, if anything the only politics I remember back then was when we used to openly mock conscious hip hop and their fans for being embarrassing. The woke mind virus didnt take hold of this board till 2016 when everything became politicized
>>129086168Depends what threads you posted in. Punk was very lefty.
It’s not just a problem on this board. There is so much obvious dogshit that could just be removed, but for some reason the jannies and mods refuse. “Extremely low quality” posts can just be deleted. There’s no actual reason we need to constantly be subjected to blatant political bait slop or retards epicly trolling and even dumber retards falling for it every time. But most of the written rules are simply never enforced. And I do acknowledge that I’m a grade A dumbass for continuing to participate here. 99% of the internet completely fuckin sucks. I really need to unplug way more than I do.

>>129086183Will you just fuck off already

>>129086183I think even in those instances the politics would have been infrequent and a side note at best, those were the obama years after all so what liberal bs would you even be spewing then? That death was the first punk band? Were you talking about trayvon martin or how you agreed with gamer gate in your dead kennedy threads? I dont think so. We were a music board first and foremost and people didnt discuss politics like that back then and im sick of this revisionist history that we were political
>>129086418Try discussing RAC and see what happens.
>>129086471>anons get upset when i troll them wow great discussion
>>129086168You're right that the board was apolitical. I just mean that rightoid shit was always immediately shut down and you could discuss weird fag artists without the thread becoming entirely about identity politics.
>>129086653>rightoid shit was always immediately shut downAny black metal or neofolk thread of the time wrecks this narrative.
>>129086680I never participated in nsbm or neofolk threads because that music didn't interest me. I'll take your word for it that you guys were in there calling for the final solution or whatever. That's fine because you weren't coming into my thread about japanese psychedelia and derailing it with an argument about schools teaching kids to be gay.
>>129074824cry baby faggot
>>129085730millennial white leftist hipster 4chan was much better than gen z indian rightoid cultural warrior "4chan"sending all the dumbest people on facebook and reddit here a decade ago to shill as part of a political psyop really destroyed the site in a way that no other has experienced
>>129086832>redditor is trying to rewrite historyleftists and hipsters were never the main group of this site
>>129086865It's true. /mu/ was a pretty hated board sitewide and sort of a black sheep. Posters would come from other boards and try to talk about whatever pleb shit they enjoyed and get absolutely ripped apart and then they'd maybe check out NMH and say wtf is this hipster bullshit. Then they'd go back to their home board and complain that this was the worst board on 4chan. It was hilarious really. I miss that.
>>129083817this place used to be full of white and asian females, then retards from /pol/ repulsed them
>>129086865sorry, it was long before you got here.
How did /mu/ become what it did in 2009? Up until that point it was just a board for the anime and video game guys from the rest of the site to talk about music. But in 2009 it ballooned in popularity and got a huge influx of hipsters who created "/mu/" culture as we remember it now. But why did they all come here? I was shown /mu/ by my hipster buddy in high school but I don't remember how he found it.
>>129086955The main demographic of 4chan was always tasteless white losers who came for video games and anime. They were apolitical back then aside from loosely valuing liberal ideals like free speech but they were ripe for propaganda and eventually became the modern day chud
>>129086953I miss the tinychat rooms with cute girls who had good tasteThere are still some girls lurking here. I spoke to two last year

>>129086938And they were rightLed Zeppelin or Nirvana were better than the faggot shit this board obsessed over
>>129086990They just wanted to play video games
It’s kind of been a meme but every day I start to believe more and more that all oldfags either made it with crypto or killed themselves. What we’re left with are zoomers that found this site through greentext screenshots posted on twitter, many of which have no perception of this site’s history pre-2016. Another big chunk is made up of fed spooks, Israelis, Indian astroturfers, porn addicts, and technocratic death cult operatives.
>>129086990>loosely valuing liberal idealsmaybe broadly, in the way that anyone who wasn't a complete retard was in that era, but the site (when /b/ was by far the dominant influence) tended towards anarchism if anything. plus some mocked Ron Paul types who neither paid nor understood taxes but knew they wanted to smoke that weed.the modern chuds were a deliberate creation imported en masse from elsewhere (billions being spent on culture war outrage farms). the precursor, or beginning, was the huge Gamergate population influx pushing the most important political issues of the day as 1) ethics in "video game journalism," 2) keeping women out of the gaming industry, and 3) the right to masturbate freely to MLP porn
>>129086990Maybe reddit is more suitable for smug faggots like you
>>129087071And I’m not a jab against zoomers or anything but I think new users today find this site much less “organically” vs decades prior.
>>129087081>billions being spent on culture war outrage farmsLmao I can tell you are one of those people who listens to chapo and red scare and thinks he's edgy and redpilled
>>129087061You could discuss Zepellin just fine on re ddit where you belonged. /mu/ was a unique space where people who wanted to explore beyond Rolling Stone's top dadrock bands could do so
I miss when hip hop and black culture worship didn't completely take over the internet and this board
>>129087109>unique spaceWhere people just discussed overhyped faggot shit like Arcade Fire and Animal Collective which no one will remember in 20 years
>>129087155>justThat's where you're wrong. The diversity of discussion was unmatched anywhere else. >>129087109How was old /mu/ any different from the indieheads reddit?
I really don't miss the era when people thought any shit was good because it was obscure
How old are the metal and classical generals?
>>129086938the archhipster dick-measuring was so omnipresent that you'd have to lurk for years before you could make a thread without getting shit on. it was a glorious form of gatekeeping that the internet might never have again./fa/ had it as well but much more cliquey, with people who probably came straight from Myspace./tv/ had traces of it but that board went to shit harder and faster than any other on the site./lit/ had it at first but was perhaps just too new and suffered horribly as the site grew.
>>129087209It was more similar than people would like to admit Although in the early 2010s I'm not sure indieheads existed in a state close to what it eventually became. I think indieheads in the late 2010s mostly was /mu/ refugees. In the early 2010s I never checked leddit out because it was the land of rage comics and bohemian rhapsody.

We live in an era where everyone is forced to be politically conscious and thus notice which camp everyone else might be on and consequently attack or support. Can't really discuss something artistic like music when that's going on. I'm convinced this is the only reason why /mu/ doesn't really discuss music anymore.
>>129092271Most music is not political
But the people behind the music are, and their political positions can be inferred from what they've explicitly or implicitly stated, signaled, their actions, etc. Since 4chan has a right-leaning bias, in these times it's obvious why you're going to see more threads discussing day to day celebrity discussion rather than the content of the music itself. It's going to be about figuring out who is based or cucked, who supports or opposes e.g. Israel/Jewish interests, Donald Trump, and so forth. A serious attempt at discussing music is uninteresting and appears as luxurious when in your day to day life you know that political affiliation is much more existential.

>>129092390Its all so tiring.
>>129092390>A serious attempt at discussing musicwhat does that look like to you? how can someone who doesn't know anything about music discuss music? this used to bother me, but i've accepted that people are fucking retards.
holy newfags. This board peaked in 2009. If you're longing for the 2010s, that was already the decline. You'll never know how good it was. Sure, lots of trash, but loads of quality, too.
>>129092483Music is just not a very fun thing to discuss, I had way more interesting conversations about books, movies or games here
nice unc therapy session thread you got going on here
>>129089558This shit is mega cringe bro. You can't revive /mu/. You need to move on.
>we're as far away from /mu/ being a good board as /mu/ being a good board was from Kurt Cobain being alive
I come to this board to spam funny happy frogs with song lyrics
>>129074824times change, but there's always something to appreciate around here, i find it a bit silly of those who desperately try n ruin things for whoever here or go out of their way to make 4chan overall worse in hopes that there would be no 4chan after whatever, those people must be really miserable

>>129092314Nothing it outside of politics, not even the shit you took this morning.
>>129098126You are and always will be an egotistic cunt that nobody on this board ever enjoyed interacting with in any manner whatsoever. Even your mere presence ruins any thread you decide to vomit in with your worthless contributions.
>>129098193based
>>129098193>>129098513How am I wrong? Tell me.
>>129098547People are capable of having conversations about myriad subjects, music included, without bringing up politics at all. You're a shitstain that taints every thread you post in.
>>129098547Any previous attempts at discussion with you have been pretty futile and I won't waste my day trying to reason with you. That said, if you have any sort of conscience, decency or good faith left in the midst of your apparent morbid mental illness that plagues you, I would simply ask you to keep your bullshit to yourself if you don't want to actually interact with people here in a meaningful manner. I'll take responsibility for getting involved in this attempt at a conversation with you, no one has forced me to open the thread and type this reply, and I assure you I would love to forget all about you and never have any other interaction with you ever again for the rest of my life, but it is seriously dispiriting to see someone make such a public, pathetic spectacle out of themselves most days and always have to look the other way and ignore it. By all means, keep replying to your own posts with the same tired phrases, post your waifu threads if that's really your main calling in life, I personally don't value them, if I feel like listening to music, I can just go on youtube myself and look up labels or artists or genres of music that are actually worth watching, and out of principle, I will never open any of your waifu/pol bait threads, just because I don't want to enable an asocial twerp like you and have my mind polluted by your toxic vibe, but perhaps other people do find some value in your schizo waifu/pol baiting every once in a while, though probably much, much, much less than you think.
>>129098126I guess anything COULD be political, but that doesn't mean everything IS.
>>129098602>keep replying to your own posts with the same tired phrasesWhere?>post your waifu threads if that's really your main calling in life, I've deliberately tried avoiding making threads about her.>I will never open any of your waifu/pol bait threads What /pol/ bait threads?
>>129098649A better way to phrase it would be that nothing is free of political context, but not everything deserves political interpretation as its primary meaning. It's what separates a deliberate choice to live off the grid from a group of college-aged liberals twerking in the streets for Black Lives Matter or participating in Slut Walks.
>>129095397>/mu/ in 1956those threads are a board tradition though
>>129098650>I've deliberately tried avoiding making threads about her.Dropping the trip to make them doesn't really count
old /mu/ wasn't more liberal, it was just less political
>>129096255Beatles threads unironically were impossible during the best years of /mu/ and we were better for scaring beatles fags away
>>129098821That guy wasn't me. I first assumed it was the other Maggiefan who made webms. Turned out it was an anon copying my posts and adding an aggrandizing tone to flamebait others. He then acted like a prick towards me hence why I now have taken to using this trip. Believe whatever you want, but that guy isn't me.>>129098602As I reread your post, you probably don't like my unfiltered opinions and impiety towards liberal shibboleths. I can do what I can to keep my politics out of my posts, but I will not change my views and will share them when the discussion calls for them. If this bothers you, Reddit is that-a-way. >>129098846Not true. It was actually very liberal, but back then, liberals were quite comfortable and used to their assumptions going unchallenged which gave them the impression they effectively owned this space. Rightoids weren't particularly bright which led the few who tried engaging them to be flamed off, but as American politics got more contentious and users from /pol/ started trickling into other boards, people took sides.
