Just bought Classic Vibe Telecaster. Pretty much better than the Player Tele's I tried (actually has an ashtry and Tele saddle) and $3000 less than the actual good American Pro tele, which I tried with a Delux Reverb so that probably made more difference, but that guitar had a really lovely tone to it.

Why the FUCK do so many brands offer to filter by wood type while not offering to filter by number of frets when buying a guitar?! I don't give a shit that the guitar is in "roasted swamp oakmaple", IT'S FUCKING PAINTED BLUE!!! I have to visually check the number of frets there are each time I see a guitar that's slightly okay, and there are not enough of them.

Appreciated advice, but it doesn't solve the main issue that manufacturers try to sell us snake oil. Even Reverb doesn't let you sort guitars by number of frets which is fucking scandalous.
>>
>>129211754
you can filter by number of frets on Sweetwater but you have to search a large enough category like “6 string electric guitars” if you just type “esp guitars” or something it won’t do it. I can type fender basses and search for nitro only but if I do precision bass I cant

Yeah there's Sweetwater and "FindMyGuitar" which has even more choice. But I'm in Europe, though sellers are not the issue I'm not looking for the latest models so the choice should be even larger but somehow I struggle to find what I'm looking for.
Actually I know which guitar I was looking for but I should have boughtened it when it was available 6 months ago, now I'm sitting here with my limp dick in my hand. It hurts my feefees. And all the shit I find is way overkill for the restrictions I put on myself. I just need 24 frets, fixed bridge, one volume one tone, that's it.
>>129211849
Not the sound I'm looking for, pal. The sound is not it. Have fun with your tele, teles look nice, probably feel nice, and it's the feel I'm looking for, but I'll reach that 22nd fret and feel like I wear a chastity cage.
>>129211895

>>
>>129211988

But you know what? If I can't get satisfied with the current choices of guitars, I'll pick one that looks okay and mod the fuck out of it. Remove the pots and add a kill switch and a phase inverter, of course swap the pickups. I don't give a shit, I'm a maniac.
>>129211956
Haha yeah no haha. I love my Jackson but I want a radically different profile. My shredder shreds, high output pickups and the greatest of the bridges: the floating trem.
Brother, I don't want another floating trem if I don't plan on using it. There's a guitar for shredding and a guitar for grooving.

Anyway, back to sleep. Good rest of your day to the Americans.

Endearing. I can't play for shit; I used to hold up a chord and bash my Japanese Fender Jaguar with its whammy bar. I spent more time researching my next purchase, rather than playing what I'd had. I did a lot of not actually playing.

The funny thing is, I was so into 1 particular bass guitar--- a black Rickenbacker 4001. $600 Canadian was the top charge of one of these when I was 15. Saved up $450 and didn't know how to ask for help. Cried about half the story on my 16th birthday (there was so fucking much on my mind) so my dad bought me an Ibanez starter bass and a practice amp.

I was almost disturbed... It wasn't what I really wanted, and I never knew how to say "your best wasn't good enough" to my dad. He was so quick to doing it his own way.

Anyway, I turn 38 this year. It's about time I let go of my snobbery about the 22nd fret and looked closely at a classic vibe (or 8)

If you want anything above 21/22 frets your best friends are the non-boomer brands like Ibanez (though they are technically boomers too), ESP, Schecter (also a boomer), Jackson & Charvel (boomers too).

Fender hates 24 frets and anything superstratty, they use their Charvel and Jackson sub-brand for that; once every 4-6 years they'll cough up something for rock/metal players with FRs, HSH configs, etc.

Gibson only has one 24-fret guitar and its the SG Supreme (the baritone Buckethead LP and Dethklok Explorer don't count), everything else is 22 frets. One Anon here even went to Gibson garage in Memphis and they won't even build him a 24-fret LP even if he had shekels to burn.

If you're a patrician and want 24 frets without those gay floating trems the cheapest shit you can find are Ibanez GiOs, PRS Custom 24 SEs or Jackson JSTs. There's nothing else in this space until you shell out $1000 for Indonesian Ibanez AZ Premiums or Chinkshit DK24 Charvels. If you live in Japan, Schecter Japan has tons of Gotoh 510s STs with every pickup combination imaginable. Anything higher you're now looking at PRS USA Custom 24s, Suhr Moderns or Tom Anderson Angels.

But... but... but... a child could dream, and all.

I want to try a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Stratocaster ASAP because I have a vagueness of an idea of what I'm getting into. The 5-way blade and 3 knobs.... the whammy lammy ding dong wiggle wanna gonna at ya... the songs I never learned.

Next I gotta decide if I want a THR5 with a new $600+ Squier , or to save a bit more for a Vox AC4C1-12, or Marshall Origin 20-watt combo...

I wanna actually play... mostly just from what I've read and heard. But I love Stratocasters as of this week. It just struck me.

Yeah.

I'm gonna order that pink sonic strat most likely. Just nervous I'm gonna get a lemon with bad frets. Don't really wanna spend an extra 50 on a 175 guitar right out of the gate and returning it would be a hassle.. I really fucking want it though.

>get 6 string bass
>get Squier/Fender bullshit model with only 20 frets
you know you could have just bought a 5 string with 24 frets and you would virtually have the same range without having to deal with the wider neck and the extra string, right?
I can understand getting a six string with 24 frets for all the chord and upper register stuff (I own three) but 20 fret six strings are fucking retarded.
>>
>>129214622
I'm interested in the bass 6 because it has a narrower neck
>>
>>129210497
MM pickups are on a completely different spot than P pickups, Joe Dart plays flats with ultra farty eq instead bassy boom boom shit that a p-bass would deliver. In fact, he should just go to playing jazz basses because he eq's the shit out of his music man basses to sound like one.
>>
>>129214633
that's not a real bass since it's not even in proper six string bass tuning, it's just a retarded baritone guitar. Also the bass in the picture ain't a bass six, it's the jazz bass six which does have an incredibly wide fretboard and is really awkward to play imo. I tried one out to use it as a mod platform since the sadowsdky six string jazz basses cost six grand but that thing is just too uncomfortable to play while having the tonal range of a normal five string with 24 frets, I just fail to see the reason to ever buy this particular bass, it's not even on the cheaper side for what it brings.

I'll say, the biggest flaw of Fender is how limited they are. They should have a hardtail Strat in every tear, nit just the cheapest squiers and the high end fenders. They should also make teles with an arm cut. Fuck the historical accuracy, if you can ship six saddle teles you can give them a fucking arm cut too. Also there needs to be tons of colors.

Not all guitars and players need 24 frets and not everyone requires ultra specific specs, at this point just find a local luthier and ask him to scratchbuild an entire guitar for you

Headphone amps like this and the Tonex Plug will ensure you'll keep playing instead of fiddling in your PC.

Everything else is trash, Katana Go and the Tonex Plug are the way to go if you only want to keep playing.

Its headphones mostly so you're not going to bother anyone, you can pair it with bluetooth speakers if you want to play "loud".

No point buying a real amp and you can't crank it beyond 9 o'clock because its too loud and someone else will complain.

Sweetwater rep keeps calling bros... Why is it never a female Sweetwater rep? Who wants to talk to a guy on the phone? Not me! Very GAY! Prefer texting men, if you know what I mean. Even so... Sometimes they just know... Talking with men in person is fine enough, still borderline GAY. Many of my best friends are extremely gay. To bad I told him (him being the sweewah rep), that I'm a Music-Go-Round guy now ;(technically not a lie...). Guitar center sucks ass, because they are too far apart. If I had any input, I would make a version of Guitar Center that is just the "bare-bones" and not trying to be "cool" (even though guitar center is very cool, it's one of my favourite stores), so small towns, or towns with no cookie-cutter music stores (and that's a good thing, btw), can have access to instruments without dealing with the small town attitude, which makes my skin crawl, usually... In conclusion, Guitar Center is obviously the best music store, but they are inefficient for acoustic retards like me who actually would go there every day, if I could.

Thoughts on lighter string gauges, like 9's or even 8's? Iommi and even Page were able to get some pretty good tones out of them.
>>
>>129218318
Billy Gibbons says he's used 7's for a long time. Your tone is based on a variety of things, and the idea that heavier strings gives you better tone just doesn't make sense. Plus most nut slots are designed specifically for 9's so if you go up to 10 or 11 you're going to having tuning and intonation problems.
>>
>>129218424
How about sustain? I've heard heavier gauges handle it better, or is that a meme too?
>>
>>129218318
Malmsteen and Paul Gilbert use 9's they don't sound that thin

>>129218440
Jim Little did a test on YT. For E standard, the EAD low strings will sustain a bit better with heavier gauge
For the plain strings a little better sustain with a lighter gauge
Compared to a 10-46 set that is
Makes sense for the treble strings, if its thicker it may have a louder initial attack but the tautness doesn't let it ring out as long (even as a whimper when it's thinner)

Anyways, just saying this to let you noobs out there know that you can do it. I've recently starting taking scales, chord shapes and all that seriously after years of playing guitar by ear and having a very basic understanding of theory. I am a little nervous that I'll get a lemon but there's honestly nothing else that interests me in the budget range. Benton had no hardtail strats until 400+ range and even then it's those dinky style bodies with 24 frets which I don't really want. There's the classic vibe strats which I do actually like too but I don't wanna spend that much at this time.
