So when you're doing something like target notes during your improv, how do you make it sound not generic?
>>
>>129234830
The real thing here is everything that sounds great has already been done to death so if you don't want to sound like a stereotype you just end up sounding like esoteric chromatic noise, normies hate that, connoisseurs love it.
>>
>>129234846
Maybe generic wasn't the right word. What I meant was boring.
>>
>>129234869
what do you mean target notes?
you shouldn't be thinking at all when doing improv its essentially just a stream of consciousness manifested through your guitar.
practice enough shit and your hands just know what to do
>>
what do you guys think is the best exercise to work on transitioning from open chords to barre chords
>>
>>129234921
idk just do it. you can cheat by using your thumb to bar the low e string.
>>
>>129234921
try to play the mario song in all barre chords
https://voca.ro/152PxarYUH8V
>>
>>129234921
pick an open chord and a barre chord. swap between them, playing every string, trying to get all of them to ring out without buzzing. do this 100 times. then pick two different chords and repeat
>>
>>129234943
I’ve been practicing to a metronome just changing between D and Bmin. I’m up to 75 bpm pretty clean but I’d like it to be faster. not much progress made in a month
>>
I just play what feels good for my fingers :p
>>
>>129234978
That sounds like a boring way to practice though. What you should do is to practice entire songs playing at tempo using bar chords. I got good at bar chords by playing along to Ramones songs because every song uses bar chords. Officially I got where I could play along to the live versions which are twice as fast as the studio version. So try that and see if you don't become much smoother at it.
>>
>>129234908
>what do you mean target notes?
Being able to play over chord changes using chord tones. IE playing an A note on the first beat of an F major chord. This emphasizes the change. Or if you want to look at it as shapes, playing the major third over an F major.
>>
>>129234991
make your own songs
>>
>>129234991
I think you’re right and I should just not worry about it and play songs. I don’t play the songs to a metronome I probably should

any tips? i heard they can be an acquired taste
>>
>>129234999
I did. I'm talking about before I could play barre chords I would try to play paranoid by Black Sabbath or Ramones. Now they're easy to me.
>>
>>129235012
I don’t have much trouble playing barre chords on their own or moving them around after they’re made but going from D or G to Bmin at tempo and having to play the root on the downbeat is a bit more difficult for me
>>
>>129234997
You really think of all that when you play? Look at the brains on this ni/gg/a!

Are you actually going to use it as a bass amp?
They were also moderately popular for electric guitar use.
>>
>>129236039
I only own my Martin currently, I haven’t purchased any electric yet, mostly because I didn’t own an amplifier.

So after I pay whatever to fix whatever needs fixing on this, I’m not sure if I’ll save up for a brand new guitar of my choosing or just hunt for one in the wild like I did with my Martin and this amp, the thrill of getting quality vintage gear for relatively nothing is such a rush.

But to answer your question, probably both, I’m definitely interested in having both an electric guitar and electric bass.

Target notes are a suggestion. But to answer your question
>dont target just the third, look at other intervals. Maybe even hit an avoid note for dissonance
>bend up to/prebend to the target note
>slide down or up to the note
>do a trill on the target note
>hit your buckethead style kill switch on the bucket note
>do a very wide vibrato on the note, perhaps with a whammy

One note wont make you sound generic, think more in terms of sentences and paragraphs

so apparently you can read sheet music but you don't know much about music theory? reminds me of my cousin who graduated as a music major but he doesn't understand modes.
>>
>>129241066
it's easier when you make your own songs and don't actually write anything down or think about notes at all, when it comes to playing others/sight reading, that's just years and years possible a decade or 2 before it's as thoughtless as reading regular text
>>
>>129241066
The nuance you’re missing is running your fingers down the fret board and counting them until you’re where you need to be. Do that without looking while playing scales with a metronome or drum machine as slow as you need to
>>
>>129241066
reading music on guitar sucks, reading tabs is nice though
>>
>>129241066
>30-minute practice every day at 1pm
There's your problem. Stop rigidly 'practicing' and play sporadically.
Watch tv or something while you play. I suggest this purely for muscle memory. Don't concern yourself with the actual music, just your fingers. Distracting yourself with other noise/turning your brain off will help your muscle memory.

You can play walking lines with really minimal chord tones of root, fifth, octave, and a passing tone for more flavor. Try working on these lines, it looks easier than it is but is attainable by anyone that practices diligently (and applies to other genres still)

Jazz isn't hard, it's just practice like the other anon said. You've seen jazz musicians playing the same lines for 20+ years and many times they went to school for it playing the same things every day and night
