Diabolus Absconditus edition

A thread for extreme, abrasive, progressive, or experimental rock-based music.
This means metal, hardcore, experimental rock, noise rock, and others.
Music that is mainstream, "alternative", novelty-driven, "proggy" but not progressive, or not primarily rock, is discouraged.
>Is [genre/band/album] fit for /xxr/?
If you have to ask, probably not.

that would be the worst album to start with, but how is this even a discussion? they have 8 albums in their main discography, once you've gotten started, you're basically already done.
>>
>>129437255
No, it's actually a good place to start.
>>
>>129437300
start them off with the best album so they'll only be disappointed going forward? I like that your approach mimics real life
>>
>>129437335
A "good place to start" is something both representative and palatable. The song I posted in particular is something I feel anyone into black metal could enjoy

>>129437431
>representative
fair enough, though single song recommendations are entirely useless
>palatable
wanting to show off a band's most universally enjoyable material is a normie mindset

I'll check it out if I'm still on the fence with DsO.
I listened to the Shaxul albums and SMRC yesterday. I found the former enjoyable though mostly stock, and the latter underwhelming and tedious. In the middle of my second listen of SMRC, I don't hate it now, but I'm not blown away.

I could have sworn this album art was also used as the cover art of some slam band's album as well.

I've never listened to anything by Deathspell Omega with the exception of their split with Moonblood, which is pretty damn good actually.

BLASTING Kenose. A little more like what I anticipated with SMRC.
>>
>>129439983
It's a lazy description but you know what I mean. Moments that you can tell are intended to be epic typically don't land. The three Prayer tracks are longer than they need to be and stall the album. A liturgical chant is sandwiched into the middle of a song. A lot of assertion over not a lot of compelling music.
Si Monvmentvm is okay, but any Mayhem release with Blasphemer cripples it.
>>129439718
You'll like the albums and other splits recorded with Shaxul on vocals. Even if you find Infernal Battles shit or boring, it only develops from there, with their last session (later released as Manifestations 2002) hinting at the SMRC sound without tripping into its pitfalls.
>>
>>129440121
>SMRC
Idk what you're talking about.
>>
>>129440139
Their third album, "Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice". This feller >>129439218
>>
DsO-tourists are the reason this general is so dead.
>>
>>129440213
Bit of a non sequitur, lass.
>>
>>129437660
SMRC is them forming their sounds. I'd say Fas is when they BECAME themselves, or yeah >>129440092.
For a while Kenose was my favourite by them.
