I can no longer learn. all I have left is to compose
>>
the problem i'm finding with music is it's not as linear as i'd like it to be. everything is dependent on everything else, it makes you feel like you have to learn everything all at once or else you're only learning half of a concept without the context that helps you understand it. feels like im going to be a student until I'm suddenly a master
>>
>>129474354
I feel this way whenever anybody mentions anything about theory, at least your doing better than me
>>
>>129474377
that's probably me half the time. just know its me regurgitating stuff I just learned and barely know and calling anyone who disagrees with me retarded

Economy picking or you can brute force alternate picking (like Steve Morse)

I mean if im using for example a usx motion and I need to go up a string, but i just did a downstroke and my pick is trapped

>scholar here
I’ve studied theory for years and it’s more of an amorphous blob. It’s one of the reasons why I advocate learning different instruments - each has its own perspective on musicality.

>EXAMPLES
Reading tab is like training wheels for reading music. The best way to learn music is using a method that does both. And don’t BULLSHIT yourself - see if you can follow the contour of intervals without looking at the fretboard.
>dont you dare fucking look

Ear training can be a bit of guessing, but learning stupid things like the pitch of your microwave can give you reference pitches. You don’t necessarily need to know intervals down pat - BALLPARK sometimes is good enough.
>dont you dare lie to me

Theory applied on different instruments makes sense. For example, if you ever play mandolin or violin, you’ll be pleased to find out that all of your chord patterns work upside down. With a little theory, you would know that thirds and sixths are inversions of one another. Or, intuitively, you can see the shapes mirrored.
>typical acting like you didn’t even know

Jazz theory/Nashville Numbering System are probably the most useful, though you should be aware of classical notation. I’m reading a book called “Modulations” by Max Reger (pic rel) and you can see that both amateurs and jazz is can arrive at this type of voice leading even if you don’t know what you’re doing.
>ponderous fucking ponderous

i still don't get it. the sheet music tells you what note it is. the thing you linked takes an image of sheet music and turns it into audio. if you want the note names you can literally upload an image to chatgpt and ask. or you can take 30 seconds to learn every good boy deserves fudge

yeah i think i got it wrong, i probably will need to take a pretty long time if i need to read the note one by one.
>>
>>129474864
most producers will split a bass signal, compressing the lower half and adding saturation to the upper half. you typically only “need” compression if your playing has very uneven volume. this can happen with beginners when they start slapping as the pops will tend to be louder than the slaps. you can train yourself out of this with time but if your playing involved a lot of back and forth with fingerstyle and slapping its nice to run a bit of compression to alleviate some of the volume adjusting back on forth. you should compress just until it becomes mostly even but still be able to play dynamically

Cool, next question.

My E string is much louder than the other strings. Should I try to fix it or should I just play it more accurately?

Also, I am trying out a compression plugin (free AuDynamics Processor from Apple) and on the lowest notes it adds quiet high pitched inharmonic noises. Even with long attack and release. How do I figure out if it's plugin's problem or if my E string actually produces that shit? I can't hear them on unprocessed audio but maybe they're just too quiet there.
>>
>>129475199
outside of attack, string volume is due to how far away the string is from the pickup. on a guitar you have wound and unwound strings that make a difference but not on bass
>>
>>129475199
running a compressor will expose muting problems. for the volume problem, try lowering your pickup on the bass side. I set E and A strings to 1/8” and D and G strings to 1/16”. bottom of string to top of pole pieces on pickup when fretting the last fret. try running a noise gate and see if it gets rid of it or use a different compressor if it doesn’t go away

>>
>>129475219
To my understanding, the noise gate cannot be relevant because the noises I mentioned happen while the string is sounding, not when everything is muted.

My ears are tired of listening to bass in headphones so I'll continue investigating this another day. So far my hypotheses are (1) compressor actually introduces this noise (2) physical problems with the E string or maybe it's hitting the frets (3) physical problems with the E string's pickup.
>>
>>129475285
not offensive
>>
>>129475290
yeah sorry man. hope you figure it out.
>>
>>129475290
A physical compressor pedal might introduce noise, but a plugin won't. A compressor doesn't just take loud stuff and make it quieter, it takes quiet stuff and makes it louder. There is a small overtone or something that is caught by your noise gate, but when the noise gate is off it goes through and gets boosted by the compressor.
>>
>>129475356 (me)
Since you are using plugins already the best thing to fix this is probably just EQing out the noise.
>>
>>129475356
In theory a compressor may introduce noise inharmonics if its sliding window estimator of the RMS in the last N samples changes its value significantly when going from one sample to the next.

I'm not a tonewood guy. Basswood is just soft and dents easy. Also strips easy in any spots where you're using screws. Japan has been getting alder Fender bodies lately though. For some reason, it wasn't as feasible in the past, and basswood is more common in Asia.

Differences between overdrive pedals:
>>
I bought a Gotoh vibrato to replace the stock Schecter one and it improved the situation. I had to sand down the cavity a bit and ruined the looks, but at least there's no huge deadzone anymore and it's not scraping against the wall.

All this made me realize how much I hate floating bridges. My first guitar had one, but I don't remember having this many problems with it. Perhaps it's because I was a beginner and wasn't aware of anything like this. But I specifically can't remember major tuning issues when using the vibrato arm. It was a cheap Ibanez GIO. Blocking the vibrato seems ridiculous, because I specifically shopped for a guitar with a vibrato system.

I haven't even completely used the Gotoh stuff. It still has the stock Schecter posts, claw and screws. I'm afraid of taking out the posts in case the new ones don't fit tightly and are too loose. I'm also looking at new Graphtech saddles, because apparently non-slippery surfaces are the enemy of tuning stability. The Graphtech ones are like 100$ for 6 tiny pieces of material.

>>
>>129476300
>i will breathe new life into you to avoid learned helplessness

Start with a beginner book. Place your hands in exactly the same place as your hands will go. Avoid shifting, as this short-circuits the beginner mind. 1 finger, 1 fret. Do each exercise until you can do it 2x in a row without mistakes. Then do the next exercise and so on until you can feel what a shift is like (if you even need to do one).

A good “blindfold exercise” for shifting is to move your hand position chromatically 1 fret at a time.
>pro tip: you should be able to feel the frets slightly under your fingertips. Violinists don’t have this luxury, so they use “hand frame”. Pianists use finger replacements (see Hanon exercises). Act accordingly.

The accidentals are used based on theory, but Db is the correct choice. The reason is that in order to express this correctly for readers, you’d have:
> D C# C(natural)
vs
> D Db C (no natural sign needed)

>IMPORTANT
I think people neglect to say that accidentals are only confined to the bar. Once you’re in a new one, those accidentals are no longer in play unless the key changes, which is indicated in the music.

its the parts not the pedals themselves. we're at the point most pedal manufacturers are running out of their stockpiled components that they bought pre-tariff. as soon as tariffed parts need to be used the price will shoot up. EQD is about to increase their prices because of this

I still don't see this having that much change on pricing, as the pedal companies and similar manufacturers (in unrelated markets) will most likely panic buy stockpiles and spike prices again. also whatever companies are gay and publicly owned will just not lower prices to establish a new normal and keep gouging customers.

> Endless’s Playground generative AI system uses text-based prompts and pre-purchased tokens to help you audition, refine, and deploy effects built from your own machinations. This text-driven workflow is complemented by an open-source option for programmers, where advanced users can build effects from scratch using Polyend’s GitHub SDK. With its rugged aluminum construction, swappable faceplates, USB‑C connectivity, and built‑in expandability, Endless may look like any other pedal, but it behaves like an ever‑growing effects ecosystem.

just release a dedicated unit like an hx stomp and be done with it you fucking retards

I enjoy the different sounds the different pickup types in various positions give me. I also like having guitars in different tunings ready. I keep the Tele in Drop C and the HSS Strat-shape in E standard tuning. It's so much easier to switch to an already tuned guitar than retuning for different songs that I like to play.

It's a new feeling though. For the longest time I didn't want multiple guitars. I already have a steel string acoustic, a classical guitar with nylon strings and an electric. I'm not even a good guitar player. But now I'm thinking to myself, why not?

it's not versatile at all, it's a one trick pony but the trick is perfect for mixes because it delivers the frequency that guitars mostly can't.
Also they are on 80% of recordings because it was literally the only thing that was around during those times, we've only gotten so much variety in the last 20-30 years. Before that it was Precision or Jazz, maybe once every blue moon a Music Man.

'Bout to plug this baby in to have some fun with a looper pedal.

Still cravin' a string change from stock to flatwound 11s. I mean I liked their bending tension. I get a free setup from the store, so they're likely to set everything to perfect playability as long as I buy the new set of strings.

Part of me feels like I'd still enjoy a Stratocaster, but this is by no means a let down. I'm really happy I have this thing, all stock and ready to go from the store.

Okay, that's my update.
