>>
>>129811673
I don't think that's right. The minor and major still refer to the third. It's simply understood that a Maj7 chord has a natural 7th degree unless otherwise specified. It is understood that a min7 chord has a b7 degree unless otherwise specified. 7th is just an abbreviation for Dominant 7th, which is understood to uniquely have a major third and a b7 scale degree.

Are you saying you would rather name a Dominant 7th chord something like a Major, Flat 7 chord? Dominant chords are so functionally different from other chords that have a major 3rd that the distinction/re-categorization makes sense.

You’re right. This Pantera book is really bad. I can tell you from seeing them live this isn’t the way the bass player was doing it. Some of the theory stuff might be worth a go. Maybe the older magazines too. Tab books that look legit maybe.
>>
>>129812476
Except unless I'm missing something the Emaj7 shape doesn't look like that, it looks like this
The root isn't even an E, that's an F so unless Scotty means the third inversion...
>>
>>129812489
The second one doesn't have the maj7 as a melody note on top. It's still in the chord on the D string. In most cases when you need to play a maj7 chord you don't need a specific voicing with the maj7 on top unless that's specifically what you're going for or if you're playing chord melody.

>it blows away every other proprietary modeler on earth.
I find it hard to believe. I don't care for modelers and would prefer a cheaper alternative like this, if at all... but there's a lot of autism that goes into making them. And resources. Like Fender has access to tons of their old amps obviously, and the best studios and conditions to test every element for emulation.

>>
I’m a tube boomer and I’m ok with that
>>
>>129814038
Funnily enough, I always thought of guitar playing like legos myself.
When you were a kid, you'd buy different sets, but make the models properly only once. Afterwards, you'd put all of pieces in your toy bin to mess with later. From that point, you'd be mixing and matching all of your sets and making your own stuff. Endless fun.
It's how I learned guitar. I don't know theory, but I learned songs. I took little riffs and licks I learned from them and used them in my own way. Over time, I had a good ear, so I didn't learn even learn shit properly either. I just stole riffs and licks by themselves from whatever I was listening to.

NAM is invaluable. Does anyone know of a good place where people upload the paid packs? For now audioz sometimes gets them, but not all of the stuff.
When you package everything as separate presets per amp and cab, you basically have your own amp sim suite. Here's my collection so far.

>tfw my brain can't memorize all the minor scale shapes
Learning the major shapes was easy. Trying to learn the minor shapes now is incredibly difficult. I have this obsession of having to do everything thoroughly, so while I'm practicing the minor shapes, I'm trying to incorporate how it relates to the major shape. That takes so much more brain power. I don't know how to approach that. Right now I'm trying to visualize the minor scale shape with the major scale shape in the same position.

Bro the minor scale just has a 3rd one step down and the 7th one step up
Also, if its any easier, minor scale has same notes as a major scale of 3rd note of that minor. So Amin has same notes as Cmaj

Stacked coils are garbage everybody knows.
Single coils on a Strat produce the best tone and the only con is that you can't use them on ultra high gains setups bc the noise becomes unbearable. The best compromise I think it's getting a RPRW set and getting noise cancellation on position 2 and 4, of course they will sound different from the original configuration but I'm not a huge fan of those sounds anyway
>>
>>129814275
I have 65 RIs, but I don't think I can get VH tones out of mine like that one. Still sound cool though, but they're middy, I guess.
>>
>>129814164
every professional electric guitar recording in the history of time micd a small tube amp
>>
>>129814200
That all makes sense, but I find it difficult to apply it on the fly, especially when thinking about intervals.

What I've done for now is apply that knowledge of using the 3rd in the minor scale to find the relative major scale (or the 6th in the major for the relative minor). Then I've memorized the relationship of the shapes, i.e. which scale patterns share the same position, but with different root notes. I try to mentally overlay them.

When I practice now, I go through the major scale shapes and then play the minor scale which fits into the same pattern. I have no idea if this is productive, but the book I'm using didn't provide a good solution to this.
>>
>humbuckers are bad because they sound muddy
>but also you need humbuckers to play metal because singles lack clarity
make it make sense
>>
>>129814398
There's a few harder bands (maybe "metal") that made good use of single coils. Especially with multiple guitars. You don't override and mud each other up with them. And if you drop tune to like C and lower.
>>
>>129814398
you could prob just run a compressor on single coils
>>
>>129814302
well VH tones don't really belong to a traditional strat, you really need to get a guitar that is close to what he used so a single humbucker from EVH/Charvel etc.
But I suggest to invest into a hand wound/scatter wound set because they have much more clarity and are closer to the original Fender PUs that were all hand wound.
I wound my own PUs because I also enjoy DIY and after a few failed attempts I got a very good sounding set. The most crucial part is potting. Single coils sound better unpotted but I was never able to get a PU that wouldn't squeal under high volume and high gain. Potting too much kills the tone dramatically, the most effective potting in my experience is 10 mins in 20% beeswax 80% paraffin. The most crucial parameter is the temperature tho, you must strictly stay in the 65-67°C range.
I would stay away from big corporates like Fender and buy something from small manufacturers like Bare Knuckle etc.
>>
>>129814398
singles are noisy as hell with high gain

>>129814398
humbuckers aren't bad, they just don't belong to a classic Strat. Maybe on a tele but I never owned one. Even if my favourite instrument is the Stratocaster, I absolutely love Gibson guitars with humbuckers.

"major triad", C, C major means C-E-G
"minor triad", Cm, C- means C-bE-G
"seventh chord", "dominant seventh", C7, "C seven" means C-E-G-bB because major third is considered the default type of a third but minor seventh is considered the default type of sevenh in a chord
Cmaj7, "C major seven", major seventh chord means C-E-G-B because major third is the default, minor triads with a major seventh are not really a thing, and because if we have to specify "maj7" then it means that it's not the default type of a seventh
Cm7, "minor seventh chord", C-7 means C-bE-G-bB because minor triads with a major seventh are not really a thing

>>
>>129814626
It might be true but my whole point was an appreciation of a properly sounding classic SSS Strat. It's just an instrument that was born perfect from day 1 and delivers absolutely amazing sounds.
The only thing is that you can't play high gain metal on a single coil, if you consider that a hard limit I would suggest to ditch the Stratocaster entirely and just go for a superstar of your taste.

I've had various knockoffs, semi-hollows, and an SG when I was younger. I simply moved on. I've been playing for 30 years. Gone through all kinds of shit. I only have two strats now.
The neck pup on LP sounds pretty good for leads, but I think it sounds worse for chords. Strat pup is magical. It's practically a full time spot for many players. It's 24 frets where the neck pup sounds limp and gay..or maybe just PRS. Not sure.
>>
>>129814993
>while the neck PU on the strat is on a dead spot for them
lol no, the strats neck pickup is far more clear
>>
>>129815077
>>129815172
What I meant is that it doesn't pick up artificial harmonics, either natural or pinched. To be more correct, it only picks up some.
It's a combination of being positioned in a node for most harmonics and the very narrow and focused magnetic field.
Other than that OF COURSE the neck PU on the strat is one of the best sounds ever in the guitar world.
