Some say that two strings holding down 1 saddle makes the sound different. In my case, I simply already have a 3 saddle Telecaster, so I wanted something to fit it.

Individual saddles are easier to intonate, but these compensated saddles are supposed to solve that problem in standard tuning.

Its this song here. I probably practice like 5 days a week. Not sure how many hours a day though since I dont track it at all. Mybe 2 or 3? I kinda just play scales and use that as a way to practice tremelo picking or hammer ons and pull offs. I also just try playing various easy parts of songs I hear day to day, usually death metal. I dont really like to listen black metal, but its fun to play. I like tremelo picking alot because it makes string changes really easy when its an even number of notes and gives me mental time to process what note to play next vs a series of individual notes. Also I dislike making chords lol. I need to take the time though and learn rythym and strumming chords though.

>another nuanced slime take
Make sure to do all your performing and touring before you hit 35 to get it out of your system.

When I was nearing that timeframe, it wasn’t hard to see most performing acts as tryhard THEATRE KIDS. It can be fun rocking the house, but you will have resentment from people who do real jobs (ie. electricians, pavers, truckers). I remember waking up on a punk house couch in Milwaukee while another performer who wore duck hats and played punk rock covers on accordion was snoring.
>this could be your life

If you’ve ever toured, you’ll know the feeling of being 32 and sleeping in some 18 year olds couch while their roommates glare at you. No matter how awesome the show was the night before, it’s on to the next gig. Ad finitum, and you’ll hear stories of bands getting ripped off.

One venue in Buffalo that shall remain nameless told me to that [Olympia-based K Records band] played the week before we arrived and took home $400. They were a three-piece, so that factored to $133 per person. And for all the waiting around and boredom, that’s not even net after you consider gas, food, equipment, etc.

>what does this mean for guitar
Following a “dream” of touring or gigging locally with your guitar talents should be tempered with being in tune with your expectations of success. Even people I knew who were professional songwriters (one wrote for Avril Lavigne as a ghostwriter) only made $15,000 in lieu of royalties back in the days of CDs.

However, if you’re in it for the love of the game, you can have killer backyard parties and set up your house as THE PLACE TO BE. You will be the go-to for entertainment in your circles and meet people who enjoy exclusivity.

As far as physical talent, 35 years of musical effort does cap out due to time obligations. It gets harder to justify an 8-hr writing session when you’re looking at your winter gas bill or fighting with a neighbor over noise ordinances.

treble on a bass is what lets all the plinks and plaps out in the tone. no treble, makes it just bmmbmmbmmbmbmmmbmbmbmbmbmbmmbmbmm

get it?
>>
>>130042893
that’s actually the high mids around 1.5k
>>
>>130042923
most bass don't even have a mid control, so it comes out in the treble control. no idea what the rick layout is like
>>
>>130042893
>>130042923
So less treble keeps the tone lower? Wouldn't that make things like distortion harder to hear on the bass?
>>
>>130042928
yeah if you have a 3 tone control that’s the layout but on amps if it has split mids the low mids will be 500-800 and the highs 1000-1500
>>130042980
no go listen to Jamersons bass tone. it was always overdriven with treble on zero and flats. sounds great. You can think of amp treble roll off as compression basically. All your higher harmonic overtones that are there naturally is the only thing going on at 2k+
>>
>>130043000
Also if you want to hear what high mids boost on flats (p bass) sounds like listen to summer of madness by kool and the gang

I wasted my young adult life playing metal. Holy fuck. I've been so much happier ever since I got a good grasp of harmony and learned to appreciate clean and overdriven tones. When I was a metal guitarist I felt like I was constipated: I wanted to express emotions on my instrument but couldn't. It's like I'd been holding a shit for ~10 years.

Anyways, what's the deal with telecasters? They're just a shittier strat in my book.

For people who make their own music here - when does the vision for the song come to you? Is it before, during or after you develop a chord progression? I'm not talking about (just) tone but also the melody

it varies wildly. sometimes you have a melody first, sometimes a chord progression.

>>
>>130045658
I usually start with some sort of rhyme or vocal melody and then put it to chords in whatever key and then work out guitar parts to go with it
>>
I'm starting to really understand the patterns of where notes are on the fretboard.
Gotta say, learning that the B string is tuned differently in relation to the G string (but it's back to normal for the high E string) is what really did it for me. Note placement feels a bit random if you don't know this

Never heard someone say this, but if they did then I'd assume they don't know what they are talking about. Sure, for practical purposes everything can be transposed, BUT instruments have physical cahracteristics that make certain notes have different sonic characteristis (e.g. in a guitar chords sound rounder the closer they are to the first fret, even more noticeable on bass)
