>>130051025Comes from violin manufacturers. They'd shade the edges to mask any imperfections. This just became the standard aesthetic for instruments for a long time. Of course manufacturers have moved away from it as the default option now that instruments can be mass produced, but it's now synonymous with "vintage" instruments. You wanna sell a classy, no frills guitar at a premium price to a boomer? Sunburst it.
