I kinda just play scales and use that as a way to practice tremelo picking or hammer ons and pull offs. I also just try playing various easy parts of songs I hear day to day, usually death metal. I dont really like to listen black metal, but its fun to play. I like tremelo picking alot because it makes string changes really easy when its an even number of notes and gives me mental time to process what note to play next vs a series of individual notes. Also I dislike making chords lol. I need to take the time though and learn rythym and strumming chords though.https://youtube.com/shorts/IxczZplJ8yI

I'm going to return the g&l guitar, amp and my pedals and use the down payment from the aquatone for a 4001. After that I'm going to downtune that one and put flats on the 4003S and keep that at standard tuning. 4 basses will be more than enough.

>>130041770>another nuanced slime takeMake sure to do all your performing and touring before you hit 35 to get it out of your system. When I was nearing that timeframe, it wasn’t hard to see most performing acts as tryhard THEATRE KIDS. It can be fun rocking the house, but you will have resentment from people who do real jobs (ie. electricians, pavers, truckers). I remember waking up on a punk house couch in Milwaukee while another performer who wore duck hats and played punk rock covers on accordion was snoring. >this could be your lifeIf you’ve ever toured, you’ll know the feeling of being 32 and sleeping in some 18 year olds couch while their roommates glare at you. No matter how awesome the show was the night before, it’s on to the next gig. Ad finitum, and you’ll hear stories of bands getting ripped off.One venue in Buffalo that shall remain nameless told me to that [Olympia-based K Records band] played the week before we arrived and took home $400. They were a three-piece, so that factored to $133 per person. And for all the waiting around and boredom, that’s not even net after you consider gas, food, equipment, etc. >what does this mean for guitarFollowing a “dream” of touring or gigging locally with your guitar talents should be tempered with being in tune with your expectations of success. Even people I knew who were professional songwriters (one wrote for Avril Lavigne as a ghostwriter) only made $15,000 in lieu of royalties back in the days of CDs.However, if you’re in it for the love of the game, you can have killer backyard parties and set up your house as THE PLACE TO BE. You will be the go-to for entertainment in your circles and meet people who enjoy exclusivity. As far as physical talent, 35 years of musical effort does cap out due to time obligations. It gets harder to justify an 8-hr writing session when you’re looking at your winter gas bill or fighting with a neighbor over noise ordinances.

I'm starting to really understand the patterns of where notes are on the fretboard.Gotta say, learning that the B string is tuned differently in relation to the G string (but it's back to normal for the high E string) is what really did it for me. guys i have daddario flat wound strings but i dont remember neither the gauge nor the material, i don't have calipers, any ideas to figure out which ones to get? also playing a show next week and didn't change strings for like over a year lol im not that routined and kind of afraid the new strings will throw me off but thats probably me being unreasonable right?
>>130045846congrats you've just created every pop song for the last 30 yearssame 4 chords, different keychange the words around, still about love or hate or some dumb shit you did as a kid or whatever the fuck. probably about some girl.there you are.
any Yamaha enjoyers?
also i play a jc chorus clone style amp and found out that with the ep booster (multieffect pedal emulation), my tone is overall just so much better. but i also need a clean volume boost for choruses etc so im wondering how to keep it on all the time and then still be able to push it, any suggestions?
>>130042123Nigger I don't need a reality check I enjoy playing guitar but I have goals I'd like to at be able to say I tried to meet
Weekly check, yup, still got the blues.
>>130045892I usually get them on amazon and check the order in the history. Now i just save the box for the old ones I don't throw away
who do you put on your mount rushmore of underrated guitarists/bassists?
>>130046394Alex Lifeson’s gotta be on there
>>130046411very true, playing in a 3 piece with two other heavy hitters in itself takes a lot of creativity. larry from primus also gets a nod but i feel like he gets appreciated a lot more than alex.
>>130036006>>130035976>>130035950>>130035914Didn't listen
>>130036244I've had one of those action PJs for years and I love it. The neck/fretboard are a favourite of mine. The pots are about due for a replacement and I'd like to put nicer pickups in it but much more of a nice to have. The body is quite small, great for easy transport and practice but not everyone's thing.

DR Pure nickel's your fret wire thanks you
>>130045921I have a sc800 guitar, a BB234 bass, a YC Reface keyboard and maybe a snare stand. I had an alto sax, but I have too much shit. It went to a new home. Yamaha gear tends to punch above its level in all price ranges.
Enjoy your chinesium and increased estrogen levels from handling the cheap dyes on the pack.
>>130047035$10 a pack? You think /gg/ is just made of money? That's 1/10th the cost of my guitar bucko!
>>130047025>Yamaha gear tends to punch above its level in all price rangesAgree, even for their non-music offerings
>>130047078You know I never even thought about it before but that's the same Yamaha isn't it? I just knew them both and never connected the dots in my head.
Why do people say key doesn't matter in a song? If I have a key in C but I want to use an F#m chord I couldn't do that
>>130045417Going to have my teacher show me restringing next week
>>130047195>Why do people say key doesn't matter in a song?Never heard someone say this, but if they did then I'd assume they don't know what they are talking about. Sure, for practical purposes everything can be transposed, BUT instruments have physical cahracteristics that make certain notes have different sonic characteristis (e.g. in a guitar chords sound rounder the closer they are to the first fret, even more noticeable on bass)
>>130047195Nobody says that.
>>130047211Idk why i replied to you there anon sorry
>>130047168Their logo is three tuning forks
>>130047277I only use one fork because I'm crippingly lonely and never have company to eat with.
Robert Fripp seems like such an asshole he locks people out of his shows if they leave in the middle of a song. Based to be sure but they're paying for it>>130047233>>130047212People in here have said it and that only modes matter
Since we're talking about keys what's the best way to determine what key you want to use in a song - I was thinking base it off the first chord you want played

>>130047329>listening to /gg/
>>130045921I currently only own a THR5 amp, instrument wise I like some of their discontinued models but they're hard to find and the current lineup doesn't really interest me
>>130047479You dont do shit
>>130047195My drummer friend has said this before when I ask the guitarist what key are we jamming in. He's retarded and people who say that are dumb. Every song or jam needs a home base. If you are a good enough of a player you can fit any note into a song. That's not easy though
>>130047195In the key of C, Fm75 is often used as a passing chord to lead into F.For example: “Watching the Wheels.”

Bought a Tokai Silver Star lawsuit Strat :DI always had some love for CBS era guitars and Japanese guitars so it felt like a no brainerShould arrive at GC in a couple days
>>130047846Yeah that's what he said too but in a conversation about what key we are jamming in, the drummers input isn't really needed unless they know what they're talking about
>>130048114sugoi desu ne
>>130048114so you bought from their system and they're transferring the guitar from another gc branch? idk how gc works
>*calls you at 7am to ask how you enjoyed the pack of strings you ordered 8 months ago*
>>130048341Yeh, I bought it online and it was located at a store outside of my state so it's being shipped to my store so I can pick it up whenever it's convenient, could have it sent to my house but since its shipping to my store if it's damaged I could get a refund on the spot
do you anchor or float your hand when picking? I'm just noticing how the vast majority of shredders don't anchor their fingers
>>130048442most of the stuff I play is on the treble strings so I usually have my picking hand pressed against the bass strings to keep them muted
I'm sorry /mu/, but abbey road is too good to utterly shit on
Gibson brand™ strings sound so good but I'm new so I don't know
