The little Japanese Fender Sidekick amp sounds great on the clean channel. It’s a loud amp for being as small as it is. I’ve been playing though a Catalinbread SFT (basically an Ampeg SVT voiced OD that really nails late ‘60s/early ‘70s Stones toans) instead of using the amp’s not great lead channel and it’s been a fun little setup. Dave Gregory of XTC is one of my favorite guitarists and he used the fully solid state version of this amp in the studio with XTC a lot, so playing fun weird XTC inspired stuff has been fun

Is this normal on a guitar, I mean the white part being smaller on one end and bigger on the other? And are my strings are too high? On the 12th fret both lowest and highest string are around 5mm or a bit more.
>>
>>130188708
The white part is the saddle, and yes it's fine if it's a little higher on one side compared to the other.
5mm action height is extremely high however, either you're measuring it wrong or you've put steel strings on a guitar meant for nylon strings only.
>>
>>130188708
One end of the white part being shorter than the other is normal. It's also normal for it to have little hollows carved into them for the sake of intonation. As for the string height, I couldn't tell you. You might want to try looking up what the height values should be on that model of guitar

It does feel like chords are very hard to press, might just be me being a beginner though. also you might be right with the strings since the biggest one doesn't really fit at the top. Is there any way to know if a guitar can only use nylon strings?

Regarding the guitar itself, it looks like it's a Höfner Carmencita HC502. I got it for free from a relative quite a while ago, but I'm hoping I can at least use it for a start

That's a classical style guitar and can only use nylon strings

>Is there any way to know if a guitar can only use nylon strings?
If it's a classical guitar it can only use nylon strings. Usually pretty easy to spot. They have that open headstock, no trussrod (the limiting factor when it comes to steel strings), the bridge is missing the pins that hold the steel strings ball joints and the fretboard is 52 mm wide (compared to 42/43 mm). Inside the guitar there's also a different type of bracing.
There's exceptions but those are pretty niche.
>>
>>130188885
Yeah it's a classical, that probably explains my problems with the strings, will see how it feels with nylon ones.

I've seen an ad from someone who likes 2 bands that I do and who's looking for people to make music with. I'm still unsure if I should respond. I'm yearning to play with other people, but I'm also nervous. Mostly because I'm doubting musical compatibility and because I have never played with others.
