Drake sucks. Kendrick Lamar sucks. They were never good. Only people who live in those Latin type multigenerational households are into that shit, or at least people who are familiar with that kind of environment."AYO UNC, U HERD THAT NEW HAIBBIDY SKIBOOP? HE SAY WERDS LIKE A DUMB NYUKA AND I WAS LIKE BARS. SWITCH UP. THEN GOSPEL TYPE SHI CUH. MUST MEAN IT'S FR."I'm really looking forward to the new BoC album.
>>130320151There's a listening party on the 28th in my local record store in Amsterdam. Can't wait desu. I'm kinda curious to see what kind of people will be there. Probably uncs
>>130320170Uncs and hot sluts looking to get their backs blown out. I'd go to a listening party but I'm extremely antisocial.
>>130320176>and hot sluts looking to get their backs blown out.Okay, you've really convinced me now. I was already planning on going, but now I gotta prepare as well.
this music won't get me laid, therefore shan't be listening
what's your favorite thing about BOC?
>>130320296Satanism
>>130320296Their beliefs
Anyone scored tickets for one of the listening parties?
>>130320092There's also the listening sessions on May 28th all over the world. https://boardsofcanada.com/listening-parties
>>130320470>all over the world>zero in South America Macacobros....
>>130320262this anon >>130320176 already confirmed that there will be biological girls at Inferno listening parties. Literally go to a listening party and rizz some art hoes
a bunch of impressions of the album will go up next week after the listening parties, not sure I want to read those before listening to it myself, it'll color expectations for sure.
>>130321850Hopefully no one spoils to surprise Weeknd feature
>>130321850The only impression I can remember from the TH listening parties was that Uritual sounded like a bee stuck inside a tin can and it is all I can think about when I hear it so, you're probably right.
>>130321850lol you performative ass nigga you're already in these threads where people are praising/shitting on these first two songs.
>>130322549I've listened to those. I won't be able to listen to the full album though
>>130320503To be honest, I would never go to a listening party.
>>130322857i'd go if i wasn't poor.there is a location for the record store parties on the 28th that's about an hour away, but no car and i'm working at that time, kms
>>130320296their attention to detail, sound design and uncanny moods.Appreciation for nature and natural living away from the plague of city-life.they seem to be able to make even the simplest of tracks feel so full of life.
Realistically its going to leak next week
>>130320296the textures, they can make simple melodies and rhythms interesting by just having these layers of sound that are evocative.
>>130324083I kinda doubt it, it's already only 11 days until release and nothing yet, if it did leak maybe 1-3 days prior? but the gen public wouldnt notice or hear it early anyway
>>130324677Thousands of stores will be getting copies stocked around that time so there's just no way it doesn't happen
you keep saying it like you want it to happen.as much as i'd like to hear the release early too, i'm tired of everything in every form of media being leaked lately, let something happen with intention for once.>>130324776
>>130324776maybe it will, but the TH build up was nuts and got even more mainstream attention than this and a similar amount of listening parties and it didn't leak, so it aint guaranteed
>>130324776most record stores get new releases in one day prior to release, sometimes 2 or 3, but that would be the soonest id expect any form of real leak. next week there are 7 listening parties but they arent in record stores theyre mostly in movie theaters so no one will be able to leak anything unless they secretly record it on tape or st (i expect this to happen) but no actual files are getting leaked. usually with listening parties like that they make you turn your phone in so someone would literally need to wear a wire or have a tiny tape recorder in their pocket or st
>>130324856>>130324867I'm so set on the 29th that I don't want it to leak, it'd kind of ruin the magic a little if it just drops out of nowhere a week ahead of time online. So I hope it doesn't.
>>130325476just don't listen to the leak?If it does leak it will likely be low quality anyway
>>130325476its not gonna leak a week ahead of timethere at most might be one or two very low quality recordings of the album off someones pocket mic 6 days in advance from the special listening sessions, but if it did leak in full it would only be maybe the day prior so probably just avoid certain sections of the internet if you're super worried about it
If I were to compile a list of the very best BOC songs… well, I think Prophecy easily deserve a spot on it. This song is so dense and such a joy to behold. It’s like a quantum leap in BOC’s sound, which is impressive considering TH was already such an immense achievement from a production standpoint. But Prophecy is something else. Also, I love the outro starting around 4:20. It’s like a gentle comedown from the acid-trip of the previous four minutes; it washes over you like ocean waves. Just such an addictively good song.
I can't stop repeating I AM GOD, THE ULTIMATE RESONANCE. in my brain, what an absolute banger of an intro. Maybe, just maybe, we are in presence of a top 5 electronic album of this decade. I call it right now.
so, fellow kids, i've completely ruined the singles for the last two BoC releases due to playing the early released tracks ad-nauseam (hype and early track releases have been warp's successful playbook for a loooong time).even 13 years on I skip Reach For The Dead despite it being a fantastic track because it's so burned into my brain as a disparate experience to listening to the album as one piece.
I am weaning off Zoloft in preparation for the listening partyI want to have all the feels.DISCLAIMER: Do not cease psychotropic prescription medications without discussing with your psychiatric provider.
After listening to the two songs released a couple days ago, I gave them a day break. And that was all it took for me trying not to melt while statically dancing to that slow hammering beat and its intricate melodies and structures, when I returned to them today. It is striking how the brothers have kept the sweetness and mystery of their core sounds and wrapped them in some new cloth. May it be a harp!!!!!, some guitars, vocoder and danceabilty. They do grow on me already. And from my standpoint I can‘t understand anyone being dissapointed with their new material.I do admit, most of their work is difficult to find into, but that is also Part of their quality, and music made well in general. It takes an enormous amount of openess to appreciate, sit down and allow something new to unrestrictedly flow into you.So, in Short: this new BOC is fucking awesome. What is you opinion and how do the songs we got so far develop for you?
With the 28th listening parties and the fact you can get your hands on the CD/LP during the event I feel like the only chance of it leaking would be late evening 28th going into release day morning
I'm lucky to have got a ticket for one of the listening events and am really looking forward to the experience. One thing that I'm becoming more aware of is that this will be the first time since becoming a fan that I will be with other fans if the band, I mostly listen to the band alone, on headphones and rarely meet other fans IRL... it is going to be super interesting for me to see the diversity of interests, tastes and backgrounds that are there on 22 may, after TH was released there was a smattering of events in London, but I was to far away to attend... anyone else wondering how it's going to be / have any thoughts on how it will be to meet up with other "like minded people"
The loneliest thing about my life is my boc obsession. As a former touring musician and someone who's rubbed shoulders with a lot of music nerds, I've never met any other serious fans - only casual listeners - or people who were really into MHTRTC in the late nineties but didn't follow them afterwards. It's baffling to me. Boards of Canada are the most underrated/unknown recording artists of all time.
Gave MHTRTC to my father in law as a gift, as we'd gotten into this big discussion about his interest in 50s and 60s electronic music (he was 85), and he expressed interest into hearing where young people had taken it.At one point I noticed it was put away in a drawer, and asked him why it didn't click for him.His answer: "IT'S JUST DRUMS!!!" I had a good laugh;)
When exactly does it release on May 29? Is it localized to midnight for your timezone or is it some thing like it releases midnight UK time?
>>130326148>using zoloft instead of turning to Jesus Christ, noweed, fasting, exercising, nofap, and L-Theanine in the big 26
Hi all, one question that has always fascinated me is how the brothers manage to get a lot of their samples cleared for use in their tracks? Especially as most uses require some kind of attribution (e.g. sampling TV programmes or films) and I’ve never seen any sample credits on their stuff!
>>130326234you don't HAVE to clear samples. If it's something like snippets from a lecture or an ancient TV program that nobody even knows, you're not going to get in trouble.but in regards to your question, the label usually handles it.
Is Inferno (so far) what you expected/hoped for? What do you want to see next/more of as a fan?DiscussionWith many of my favourite musical acts, I'll admit there's a part of me that wishes they'd remain stuck in the vibe of my favourite albums of theirs. With BoC, however, I'm genuinely happy with anything and everything they chose to release.I've seen a lot of fans expressing their disappointment and/or surprise at the direction of Inferno so far- and that's of course absolutely okay, I don't believe in being a blind fan of everything an act does/releases, regardless how big a fan you are.Personally, I adore what I've heard so far, and am so far beyond chuffed for the album release + listening parties.I will say, the sound is somewhat different to the sound which made me fall in love with them- I mean, it's still there in significant enough doses, but even more-so heads in a new direction; one which I personally really enjoy (so far, off the very limited teasers). I saw someone somewhere (I think on here) liken Prophecy @ 1420 to some industrial/NIN stuff, and I totally hear (and love) that, along with some other influence.Just curious whether with our limited tease Inferno is (so far) what you expected/hoped for? Also just curious what you want to see next/more of (of the guys, but also from Inferno) as a fan?I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED, I DON'T KNOW HOW I'LL GET THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS!!!
Stop posting shit from reddit thanks
>>130326234part of the reason they haven't officially released Old Tunes yet is that the samples in them are a lot more well known and would cost money to clear. I think otherwise the brothers just tend to YOLO and distort the samples enough that it's harder to get sued
Orange.
>>130326111fair enough, that's what this time i've been trying to hardest to not listen to Prophecy a lot.
just listen to oneohtrix point neverBOC honestly sucks, this new shit sounds as bad as tomorrows harvest, the moment they put drums in anything the flow immediately stops and it sounds like something you could produce in reason back in 2010, hollow deeply uninteresting Scream 4 style distortion
okay
>I am Cob, the ultimate resonance
>>130327271oneohtrix point never is a jew who makes music for jew movies.go listen to that if that's your thing. Boards of Canada are on a completely different level.Tomorrow's Harvest was excellent.
>>130327271I don't listen to sell outs.
>>130327271bait used to be believable
>>130328069boc used to be good, defend their dogshit drums now>>130327846boc literally had a highly produced media campaign by warp records to promote this album, fucking yikes
>>130326215i believe its midnight in each country however if youre country has multiple time zones it dependsin the US it releases at 9PM on the 28th on the west coastspotify has a countdown thats calibrated for your time zone
how much influence did seniarz (Program7) have on this album ?
>>130328815is BoC Satanic? They openly defended the Branch Davidians, an extreme Christian group (the Waco thing) and have included samples of Christian prayers in thier music. The new album has a song called The Word Becomes Flesh, which is a very open Christian statement. The only Abrahamic faith that believes the word became flesh (as Jesus Christ) are Christians, it basically means Jesus is God.
>>130328920when did they defend branch davidians? i think they are just inspired by worldly events and belief systems, the new single samples an islamic theologian
>>130328995>when did they defend branch davidiansIn an interview a long time ago. They basically said that the branch davidians weren't doing anything wrong and were killed by the government for it. The interviewer quickly moved on from the subject after that and they laughed.>samples an islamic theologianyeah but an islamic mystic whose primary inspirations and praises are towards Christian mystics.Dude needs to accept Christ already. He's way too intelligent to be defending muhammad as the "elemental male figure" when his fellow muslims place him much higher than that in terms of holiness and goodness.
>>130329045"We're just purely coming at what we do from the angle at being interested in subjects. You get a lot of painters or film directors who are complete atheists who'll make films all about religion just purely because it's something they're interested in for that project. It's exactly the same with us - we'll hit on some of these things.">And why the particular focus on Waco?"We take a great interest in the spectrum of everything, religions and cults, anything connected to that. Because they are a break from the norm. I'm not a religious person but what I felt seeing what happened there was a sense of outrage - they're devoutly religious people, but what happened to them - were they just singled out because of this, and attacked? The victor always writes history, and the only history we know of David Koresh and those people is what's been written about by reference to things like what the FBI were investigating afterwards. Which was why we thought we'd make a record that on the surface feels really sweet and very spacious and it'll be titled In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country, but what were these people doing in a beautiful place out in the country? They were getting shot and burned.. Even when you go away and have that existence, something still chases you there, still follows you home. And that's the impression I get off that story."I don't really take this as "defending" the Branch Davidians in specific or an endorsement but just recognizing that the reaction to them was probably disproportionate and overly violent, and a general interest in maverick groups that have idiosyncratic beliefs or lifestyles. They have tons of samples that are both religious and not, and are from various sects or religions that aren't Christianity. I always took it in an anthropology kind of way, like their music is just reflecting their views on society and all the people within it, which includes religious people.
>>130328815boc should have titled a track "obvious satanic belief" lmao. maybe for the companion ep (please do a companion ep, guys...)
>>130329130sure I'm not claiming they're Christian groypers or anything, but they aren't reddit atheists either. Also the new music video had tons of Christian imagery, as well as Tape 05. Including armed Christian extremists. The vibe I'm getting, especially considering they both live in a bunker in Scotland, is they are gravitating towards these futurist survivalist religious groups that are on the fringe of extremism in both their spiritual and political beliefs.
