Guitar and baste general: Cyclone edition

Previous: >>130684702

How sketchy is buying a guitar from Japan on eBay? 99% positive reviews based on over 4k items sold. Can only find a couple other Cylcones but they're used and in the UK.

I kinda want a humbucking Fender guitar since I have single coil covered with the JM's and Jag, and only have humbucking Gibs.

Tele deluxe? But yes that seller is legit

Guy who was wanting to trade my rosewood Tele plus cash for his 1965 Jaguar suddenly upped the amount of cash he wanted on top of it to more than I was wanting to spend so it isn’t going to happen. I wouldn’t mind spending that kind of money on it if it were coming from a shop with a good reputation concerning vintage gear but from a normal old Joe Schmoe where “trust me bro it’s all original” is all I get isn’t something I’m willing to gamble on unless he lets be get turbo autistic and tear the guitar apart to check pot date codes and solder joints and stuff

It’s not so much that it’s vintage as it’s local and surprisingly hard finding a US made vintage spec Jaguar. I don’t want a MIM or MIJ, I’ve had complaints with every MIJ/CIJ offset I’ve ever had and would rather just get a good US one. AVRIs are like $2k-$3k nowadays and AV1s are like $3k+. This thing would have came out to around $4k with the value of my Tele and I’d sell my current Jag to make $2k of that back and I’d be comfortable with that, but now his price is closer to $5k and I’m not doing that without knowing exactly the ins and outs of his guitar. I’d rather just get an AV1 or AVRI but I’ll wait to find the right one local

Humbucker easily.

You can coil cut or do partial split to give you single coil or near p90 character, or simply stick to full h mode for punch in the face, put the coils in parallel mode for airy hum cancelling almost single coil character, or put the coils out phase.

Really just scratch of the surface there

all of the japanese listings on ebay are people stealing listings from japanese auction sites. if you were to purchase it, they would then buy it from the other seller and have it forwarded to you.

use reverse image search to find the original listing, it will be cheaper. you will have to use a forwarding service.
>>
>>130701033
mediocre.

it will be cheaper because the ebay seller is adding the cost of postage and their markup to the price.

Change strings and check intonation. If that's in order: What does your signal chain look like? Especially with digital gear, if the input signal is too loud, it can distort in ways that fuck with pitch perception.
Had this issue with my Stingray, it turns out that I need to roll down the volume and bass knobs some. Alternatively, you could screw the pickups lower into the body to increase the distance from the string.

Just watch because chinese clones abound but I've noticed it's 3-4 sellers doing most of it.

right, will try after new strings are installed. this is bass is definitely noisy, another option would be to embrace it and use this bass with some distortion and some eq to cut undesired harmonics

EHX soul food is a klon with 120% give to the knobs. In other words, it's a different circuit, but if you only use about 77% of the knob turn up, that's the Klon's peak. So if you're into that sort of thing, for my money the soul food is not only cheaper, but a better circuit.

idk, I've been using BIAS FX2 but I'm a bit disheartened with how little support it's gotten, though I like a lot of the tones that are achievable with it. I'm considering the Nembrini Rockdude (Rockman rip-off, basically) right now.

Here's a riff with BIAS FX2:

If you're going straight into EQ, playing around with that may be an option. Also, depending on the noise you get, you might want to try cutting individual bands and see if that helps alleviate it.

Like, the original Klon circuit was sourced in full for the Soul Food. It's only due to peace of mind and innovation that it's different at all. Like how the EHX Tone Corset is also unabashedly a Keeley Compressor.
>>

I'm invested in BIAS FX2 as well and I hate it. As you said, it's disheartening once you realize some things. For example: moving the mics on the cabs is actually just an EQ filter that's being manipulated and the mics themselves are just different EQ profiles. I understand that it boils down to the same, but I always assumed that they sampled every cab with every mic and a lot of positions and then interpolated between them.

I also hate that the same amp has different versions depending on the gain. Why? Sounds shady. If they model an amp, you would get the different sounds by manipulating the knobs on 1 amp, you don't need the different states.

As much as I hate it, Amplitube 5 looks better with every day. But my favourite is Overloud's THU. It's too expensive though.
In the end, I'm just settling for downloading individual, extensive NAM captures.

Im a big Neural DSP fanboy.

Favorite ranked are
1. Fortin Nameless Suite. Mostly for extreme metal genres but if you know how to dial a tone you can make it do basically anything.
2. Archetype Cory Wong - best for clean and funky tones. Has some really good bass profiles too. Can do overdriven lead tones well. Its my go to when I want a beautiful clean sound
3. Archetype Plini - best fusion shred tones. If Im practicing improv, I'm using this one
4. Archetype Nolly - can do basically anything, if you can only get one this is probably the one to get
5. Archetype John Mayer - some amazing blues rock tones here

Honorable mentionn: Archetype Rabea. It has a really cool synth that works well with violin impulse responses

If you dont want to spend money, I highly suggest you learn how to use Neural Amp Modeler based plugins like Nam Universal. You can download IRs for amps and pedals. If you know what to look for and how to craft a tone, you can make tones as good or better than anything NDSP can give you.

Final honorable mention is Vintage Vibe by FineClassicPlugins. Its really good for shit like Alt/shoegaze/Indie tones

Forgot to add, the Neural DSP X plugins (Like Fortin Nameless, Plini, etc) have a pitch shifter thats actually really good. So if you are like he and have a floating bridge, and cant easily detune, this is a lifesaver. Can play in Eb and play 80s music without detuning. They also handle low tunings very well. Can do down to about C standard before it starts sounding too processed

>>
>>130706054
Once you drill them enough you won't even have to think about it anymore and you'll just know when you want to add mixolydian or dorian or whatever while following chord changes. But you should know all the notes on the fretboard and which intervals to alter in your scale pattern. It's pretty mindblowing that all you have to do is learn the major pattern and just alter it slightly and move it for everything.
