Anyone know what size the Alan key on the bridge of a yamaha guitar is to set it up?
>>130770475Hehe, speak of the devil.>>130770498Yes, I know the fretboard by heart and I know the triad shapes across all strings. I actually started properly learning again after 20 years. Went through a book which I should have done 20 years ago. First it taught me the root positions, then all the shapes for major and minor scales for them, then major, minor, diminished and augmented triad arpeggios and interval "shapes".I am going to run through all of them and see what's the next lesson in the book. The only thing I dislike is that it takes like 30 minutes to revise and go through everything I've learned before every day.

Ever upgrade a guitar to the maximum possible to see how far you can go?I found a strat copy with all the knobs off at the thrift store. The maker has no records online except popping up used locally, only, every few years. It plays noticably better than my MIM Fender Strat not having done anything to it yet. It also weighs 10 million pounds. I'm going to throw everything I've got at it.

>>130771178>75% accuracyguess you'll need a second magazine
>>130771317I used to believe in the myth that you can take a $100 guitar and bling it out with upgraded everything and make it sound like a $1000 guitar, but it's a myth. A lot of cheapo brands are cheap because of the wood they're using, which is the mostly expensive part of any guitar sense wood is a natural resource that has to be harvested and treated, and cut into a guitar shape. tldr: putting $500 pickups on an Epiphone Les Paul special isn't going to do didly squat to change the tone
>>130771410lmao
I'm thinking of a seven string. How nice would it be to have a fat B on top. That's gives a low D on third fret and you don't have to drop anything, it's just always there. Open strings still fit into C G D.Are they as difficult to play as I imagine?
>>130771441Wood also has no meaningful impact on the tone of the electric signalYou know, the part you actually care about if you play the guitarOf all the things you could have said about cheap guitars, you chose the single most memed aspectCongratulations
>>130771552>Wood also has no meaningful impact on the tonealright then tell me why semi-hollows and hollowbodies are a thing
if you say it's for how it sounds unplugged you are retarded
>>130771568Because electric guitars evolved from acoustic instruments where it does matter. We figured out that we can make them easier (and thus cheaper) to build by using solid bodies without impacting the sound in a meaningful way.
What's the best way to make an arm contour on a Tele?
>>130771583that's just straight wrong. acoustics didn't evolve into hollow, then semi-hollow, then solidbody. the 335 was designed in 1958, 6 years after the les paul. they didn't start adding pickups to the L5 until 1957, 5 years after the les paul. why would they go "backwards" if it doesn't do anything
>>130771672Evolution is not a straight line. Different lineages can continue to develop concurrently. Is your IQ legitimately below 100?
>>130771672>>130771708And alsoChambered instruments fundamentally behave differently because air has very different material properties than wood does[citation needed]. Crucially, the speed of pressure wave propagation (the speed of sound) in the two media is drastically different.
>>130771672>>130771725... forgot to spell it out for the less savvy: While air and wood (note how I didn't specify which species of wood) have drastically different properties, the acoustic properties between hardwoods are similar enough that they don't matter, especially when you take the minuscule amount of coupling between the strings of an electric guitar and the body. Any kinetic energy transferred from the strings to the body would decrease the amplitude of their vibration, i.e. the thing that the pickups care about.

>>130773477Introspection is where it's at bro
>>130773579Yeah, but Ascend has a few bangers even though Greg himself hates it.
If you want to be in a band thats at least moderately good and locally well-respected, these are some non-negotiables. Your mileage may vary, but I honestly cannot see how any band would get anywhere if they weren't to follow these basic guidelines:>Every member of the band has some working knowledge of music theory. How to call out chords, know what key you're generally centered around, understand triads and chord extensions. If one person does not have an immediate understanding of these basic things, you will 100% be holding their hand the entire time you guys get to practice or write new material>Everyone must have good sense of rhythm and know how to do basic time signature changes. >Absolutely no drug or alcohol abuse>Nobody in the band is in more than one other band. I think maybe the previous tips may have some understandable exceptions as long as the band compensates in other ways, but I have no idea how any band gets anywhere if everyone doesn't follow this basic guideline. If your drummer is in like 3 other bands, good fucking luck. You are going to be in constant competition with his other bands to get the drummer for a solid weekend gig or even just battling over him to get him to show up to practice. Maybe things can work out if your drummer is legitimately professional and has a high level of technical skill that allows him to flawlessly play shit without practicing at all, but 95% of the time if every single member of the band is not fully dedicated to the band, that single person will gatekeep any opportunity you have to get together to practice/write or regularly play shows and expose the band to the scene. Seriously, if you are trying to form a band and you know that you meet all of these criteria, do not waist a single minute with someone else if they aren't matching these and are not on the same page. You will waste massive amounts of time and energy that you cannot get back.

>>130774549aesthetic = enjoyment = time on the guitar = competence
if headstock doesn't match i don't want itnot having a matching headstock is the equivalent of circumscision for guitars
>>130774549If this is like a budget issue for you and you don't have a guitar already then don't buy a fr style bridge. Changing strings goes from a chore to torture. Just buy a yamaha pacifica or a normal trem ibanez. Not to mention if that case is what it comes with and this was made in the 80s you'll need to dump a few hundred into making it playable again for a refret, new nut, setup, new pots. You can buy a superstrat from jackson, ibanez, charvel, or kramer newer than this
>>130774494The patience required to get the right one. When I see a man playing a matching headstock guitar, I know he can delay instant gratification for future riches.
>>130774569That's fair. I value aesthetics too but on this one z I don't really mind the mismatch. I even think it looks kinda cool being all funky compared to a strat. My enjoyment mostly comes from comfort and playability too and if those are good on that one, I don't see why not.
>>130774598It comes pretty standard on solid paint tacky guitars. But the real matching headstock isn't paint color, it's carved top wood and burst/transparent finish matching.
>>130774588Oh I'm not lacking guitars. I have a couple of hardtails and a regular trem one but I really want a floyd so I don't have to deal with all the tuning (nut) bullshit and just enjoy playing since I only play in standard anyway. Was thinking of just modding my trem one into a floyd one but then a pacer caught my eye (a new one, not used oldie) so I'm thinking of just buying a new one instead. Jackson would actually probably be my first choice but they come with fr special up to one k, Ibanez doesn't really interest me and charvel is cool but too expensive and shit qc.
>>130774434i think matching headstocks look good with ebony and rosewood boards. they look goofy with maple boards, the plain maple headstock looks better
>>130774575Agree and disagree. Maple boards can work with maple headstocks. Rosewood/ebony etc should probably match but I won't be too upset with black veneer. Superstrats like pic rel? Oh they look too good like that, I wouldn't want them any other way.
>>130774673
>>130774643Jackson and charvel are both owned by fender (really they're all owned by bloodsucking private equity) hence the shitty qc. Ibanez is owned by the japs, and by a company that only makes ibanez guitars and tama drums. Kramer is owned by gibson, also private equity. Taylor is employee owned (recently transferred to them by the taylor family), martin is owned by the martin family for 6 generations, suhr is owned by john suhr, prs is owned by paul reed smith. Notice that the companies with shitty qc are owned by private equity. If you want a superstrat on a budget honestly ibanez is the best choice.

>>130779612But the only differences between a floating vintage whammy and a FR one are>have to snip off the ball end>have to tighten one screw per string>have to tighen 3 screws to clamp the strings in the nutand neither of those tasks is difficult
>>130779355The normal trem I suppose is the one where you don't have to cut the balls off the strings, and can do them all at once because bridge decks itself when there is no string tension
>>130779671>cut the balls offI don't see what's difficult about this (we're talking about strings)>decks itselfFR bridge does this too, just wedge something between the block and body. Cardboard works fine, a wooden wedge is fancier. I've used a pencil underneath the screws that tighten the bridge-side string clamps before, too.
>>130773429i dont know why but my hands physically wont let me do this. the only way i can play an a major shape barre chord is with all 4 of my fingers
I just don't see how using a FR is more difficult than a regular trem. Sure changing strings has a few extra steps but those are incredibly easy anyway. And setting up is literally the same with the springs in the back. Floyd just completely removes the factor of bad nut/tuners that have it go out of tune and since I play just in standard, switching to Floyd for that and all the other fun stuff you can do with it is just a no brainer
for me its the subtle shimmer of a mustang cigar bridge (sans bar)

>>130779748I'm suspecting that your hand position is what's holding you back. Do you wrap your thumb over the top of the fretboard? What angle is your wrist at relative to the neck?
>>130779760I agreeDecked my Strat, unblocked the whammies on the Jacksons
>>130779748that's the right way to do it. proper technique is barring with your index and not your other fingers
rip to anon having to fuck with wiring, pickups, and switches on his complicated as fuck jaguar.
Picking/arpeggiating seems a lot harder than strumming for chord changes, for some reason I can't keep it fluid like I can with strumming
>>130773429it also means you can't lift any of notes you're fretting with your ring finger. losing 3 fingers to gain 1
>>130780022I just wish Jackson's weren't using the shitty Floyd special on even their more expensive models.
>>130780291The differences are negligible, and the parts are exchangeable with original Floyds if you really care.
Should I buy a DC kit

>>130779246Whats the best way to steal a guitar from guitar center? Do I just grab one off the wall and walk out? Do I start a fire in the acoustic room and then grab a few during the commotion?
>>130779670>>130779671>>130779690You don't have to even cut the balls off if you don't want to, I've seen people just string them backwards with the ball end through the tuners. I think it looks stupid as fuck but you can do it.
>>130780433What about the non-wound ends of the wound strings, do they clip them off? If yes, why not just clip off the ball end to begin with. If no, is that not detrimental to the intonation? I should check this. Also, do they not clip the headstock end of the string either?
‘ate clippin balls
>>130780326I mean the material quality is worse, strings start slipping out, posts get worn out and the screws get stripped etc. And paying 700+ for a guitar with the same trem that's found on their cheapest models just feels shit.
>>130780405Point in the opposite direction and yell "look it's james hetfield" then grab a guitar and run out while everyone is trying to find him.
>>130779373>Also, Drug and alcohol abuse will 100% ruin a band.A public image of lavish addicts was the selling point of many famous bands in the rock history, not their ruin. The image of Sex, Drugs and RocknRoll is where boring white collar folk threw their money piles at.Rock gigs happen in an environment where more then half the audience is drunk anyways, so it is kind of hard to distance yourself from that integral part.
>>130780461They just put them through the tuners and clip about an inch past the bridge.I don't know why. Maybe its too tedious to take 3 seconds to clip a ball off?
>>130780499>material qualityNever had one rust or crack in half, or what effect does it supposedly have?>slipping outLiterally skill issue, you didn't clamp it properly or (more likely) misaligned the end in the slot.>posts get worn outI've had mine for 15 years and it's still good; aftermarket posts are like 10 bucks and replacing them just means screwing the old ones out and the new ones in>screws get strippedYou don't need to tighten them to gorilla strength, idiot.>700That's still cheap

>>130780604i do
>>130780567Bro your personal experience doesn't negate the negative experience of many other people who had that bridge and had those very issues come up.
>>130780735I will concede that mine are both from 2010 and made in Japan :O so maybe they were using 1000x folded nippon steel idk
>>130780742Lol yeah made in Japan is a pretty important detail there. Those aren't the ones coming on Jackson's production guitars for example.
Does anyone have a Gotoh ge1996t bridge and know how many shims it needs to get a 12 inch radius on it?
>>130780635lole. just stating what i see. your spaz out response is more shill-like behaviour than my post.>>130780678the world is your oyster, then. whole pages of new-as-used for sale on the websites. they are clearing them out, because nobody is buying them new.
>>130780783I thought you could find the bridge for $150 and have your tech install it for $50, ezpz123z? now you're back?
I beg of you. How can I get a gnarly bass tone with logic pro base plugins. Sirs needfully please
im no good, is this anything?https://voca.ro/1lwmDOzavffV
>>130779760you're not wrong about floyd versus other floating trems, but it is generally a huge pita compared to fixed bridge if you change your strings as often as you should, but not all people are white first worlders so some aren't into that kinda thing
>>130780530
>>130780568Did he then start his own very succesful band? Same with Ozzy.If you behave in a way that sabotages the operation of the band you'll get kicked out obviously but that could also be for any other reason than drugs.
>>130780926I can get that bridge for a 100 dumbass. I'm just informing myself. I know that sort of thing is an impossible concept for a simpleton like you but bear with it.>>130780962Compared to a fixed bridge, sure. But still, not that much of a hassle.
>>130780511Yeah and we aren’t living in the 70s-90s. Nobody gives a fuck if you do drugs, it’s not some optimal ingredient that makes you famous. Being good at your instrument, not being an addict, and having a band that is fully dedicated are absolutely optimal traits for becoming successful. Yeah yeah, writing good music is the important thing, but it’s just blatantly obvious that having those things checked off first will make the entire process infinitely more tolerable and sustainable.
>>130778860Thanks>>130780461For the wound strings and their non wound plain ends I save about 8mm of it and use that end to be clamped on the locking bridge. Seems to reduce string breakage compared to just clamping the wound part of the strings - those winds get broken from the friction of whammy bar antics and slip out the locking bridge when those tiny winds eventually break.>>130780956Yeah it's something alright, keep at it m8
>>130781113We already informed you that you should not ruin your guitar. You don't know what you are doing. jesus why are genz so stubborn/immature
>>130781138>Yeah it's something alright, keep at it m8thanks, might try developing it into a full song :)
>>130781162you realize AI can generate an entire band and their arena rock catalogue that mogs your poopy little radioshack mic recording, right?
>>130781189yeah thats fine
>>130781152I said I'd ask my tech to do it, haven't I? Really, what's the worst that could happen? And I actually wanted to by a new guitar with a floyd because I found a really good deal but it sold out right under my nose this morning so I'm not gonna bother anymore. The only options in my price range are Harley Bentons and Jacksons etc with shitty specials anyway.
>>130781197the worst that could happen is you get outted as a samposting newfaggot, and you are right, since that has already happened you should do all the things you are talking about and post pictures of your mexican guitar techs handy-work

Is the bar for fingerstyle higher than playing with a pick?
What are some good rhythm resources for guitarists/in general for song writing?
>>130781548No. Both are a spectrum. There's no bar.
>>130781655Idk I feel like playing bass and melody along with rhythm is objectively more difficult

>>130781117There are successful acts where 100% of their appeal was addiction, Pete Doherthy, Lil Peep, all these opoid rappers etc.Whether a band is successful or not depends entirely on how it is marketed and being at the right place at the right time. Nowadays you have to do TikTok sperging to make it, this is how new acts enter the charts in 2026. >Being good at your instrument, not being an addict, and having a band that is fully dedicated are absolutely optimal traits for becoming successful. There are way too many bands who are perfect instrumentally, good songwriting, even good video clips yet they are completely unkown. At the same time there are many successful groups who openly admit they have barely any idea on how to play their instruments, just look at the punk movement. So your argument does hold. The music industry is a very dark place.

>>130781793The tricky bit is bending them so they wont hit each other even if you shake the fuck out of the guitar. Honestly I usually cut them, I just did that to irk some schmucks. Drives the cats absolutely bananas though
